- Game Mechanics And Faster Than Light Travel Nailed Down - 26 February 2026
So I've been finishing design documentation of how the universe will work, getting into the details including the math I will use. I've been studying theoretical physics and what our scientists in the real world think might be possible with our current understanding of physics.Faster than light travel will be done in the game using a Soliton Ripple Generator. It propagates a wave, like a ripple in water. However, this would be like a wave moving through a narrow canal that doesn't dissipate until it reaches the planned destination. The ship would be in a bubble in the center where no G forces are felt, even when the velocity of the bubble on the ripple/wave in space is faster than the speed of light. However there is a catch. Because of the speeds involved maneuvering is not possible after travel is initiated. The direction of the ripple in space can not be changed. This means the desti…
- Early Access Release 1 - 30 August 2025
I'm uploading today because I said I would. I scrapped everything and started over April 2025. This release is around 4-5 months of work. The Cartographer is now a 2D app. Very limited space sim game play. All you can do right now is fly through star systems you create. I wanted to have a functioning galaxy up and running with enemies to engage with and space stations to dock at with today's upload. Unfortunately I've had things in my personal life I needed to deal with. The plan was to have another update next month, end of September 2025, but now I'm gong to have to release several updates throughout September to get to where I wanted to be now. I understand people are going to be disappointed. There were several days I had scheduled to work on this but wasn't able to due to things beyond my control. That's why I'm behind. The hull designer has been removed from this build because crea…
- Add Star Systems You Want To The Game's Galaxy & Nebulas - 9 August 2025
Nebula have been added. A nebula cloud's color determine its properties and what effect if has on ships flying through them. Will this nebula cause havoc with your sensors, weaken your shields, or something else? The video in this post shows changes made to the Cartographer. It's now a 2D app that ships with the game. Players will be able to set the altitude axis of stellar objects in the star systems they create using a slider in the Cartographer. In the video I create a simple star system and fly through it. The music in the video will be in the game.
- Getting Closer To A Major Update! - 31 July 2025
My goal is to have the major update out before September 2025. It will still be in early access after the update. I redid the Cartographer, (the level editor), for designing star systems. The star systems are going to be humongous! Traveling the impulse speed of the USS Enterprise in this game will take the player more than 10 hours (in real life sitting in front of the computer) to travel from one side of any star system to another! Don't worry there will be faster than light travel options even in star systems ;) Well... if you have the fuel.Lately I've been working on the asteroid fields.
- Version .761 - Cleaned up controls - 19 January 2018
Pressing the left and right mouse button on the rotation buttons will add and subtract from the selected axis rotation respectively. Forced game into full screen mode.
- German language added - 3 January 2018
Added interface language in German. Working on localized store languages and designing other pieces to build ships with.
- Version .74 - 16 December 2017
Another update. Added languages for interface in Spanish, French, and Turkish. Updated GUI for choosing shapes.
- Another update and controls explained - 13 December 2017
Camera movement updated - it was too slow Controls Left mouse button --- select controls and place pieces by clicking on red connection nodes Right mouse button --- hold down to rotate camera around ship being built MIddle mouse button --- hold down and drag to move ship model to position desired Mouse Scroll Wheel --- roll forward and back to zoom in and out After saving a design the 3d OBJ model and textures are saved to the directory Documents/My Games/4X Space Time Shipyard/ :) Press escape key to exit application.
- Importing OBJ models created by 4XST Shipyard into other 3d modelers - 12 December 2017
4XST Shipyard exports OBJ models correctly and they can be imported into other 3d modelers along with textures. For a unknown reason Microsoft's 3D Builder app does not import the textures correctly. This is a Microsoft issue as other 3d modelers have no problem importing the textures as well and applying them to the ship model.
- Update- Pieces placed correclty and red engine texture fixed - 11 December 2017
The pieces were being snapped on incorrectly, that has been fixed. Also some texture changes were implemented.
- It has been confirmed ship hull designs are correctly saved to disk as OBJ files with associated textures on Windows 7 - 10 - 10 December 2017
It is confirmed 4XST Shipyard works as expected on Windows 7 - 10.
