• Patch Notes: Speed Boost, improves Crystals, Soft-lock fixes and more - 3 April 2021

We have another update with some major changes, look for it soon!. We''re trying to remain spoiler-free here in this description. NEW: Speed Boost There is now an automatic speed boost in certain sections of the game. This should make certain areas much easier to explore. Most notably, the Wedge chapter. NEW: Improved Crystals The Crystals found in "The Gateways" can now be dropped in a lot more instances. This should reduce some pain points in this chapter. FIX: "The Wedge" Soft-Locks and Waypointing We've fixed a lot of places where you can get stuck with no way back to the center of the world. We also changed behaviors on some camera cut and levers to make it more obvious as to where to go next. NEW: Chapter Select A proper chapter select menu has been added. Playing the game normally will now unlock chapters as you get to them. If you have a save game from before we added this, it s…

• Motion Blur, Chapter Select, Bug Fixes, and More - 14 March 2021

Greetings everyone, and thanks for your support of Maquette. We have a new patch today with a few new features, as well as some fixes. We also wanted to update you on a few other issues we're aware of. NEW: Option to Disable Motion Blur for Motion Sickness Today's patch provides an option to turn off motion blur, which we hope will help with motion sickness. SECRET: Chapter Select Many of you have asked for a Chapter Select menu once you've finished the game so you can go back and look for achievements, or listen to music and cut-scenes. We're working on putting a proper one in, but until then, here's a secret option to access a Chapter Select menu. In the Pause Menu: Controller: press-and-hold the left d-pad, and tap the left bumper (LB / L1) five times. Keyboard: press-and-hold the left cursor and tap the left bracket ( An option for Chapter Select will appear as a top level option in…

• Maquette review - ingenious but unfocused recursive puzzling - 3 March 2021

There's an acute kind of horror to being very, very small. A lot of it's in the timing, I think: the time it takes just to get anywhere is so long, so monotonous and lonely, that you feel oddly trapped. All that infinite expanse around you and at the same time, nowhere you can really go. Shudder. Maquette, a debut effort from San Francisco-based studio Graceful Decay, gets this - in fact it's built on it, playing with size and space and infinite regress, and the dense atmosphere that comes with it. A game of teeny tiny footsteps and giant, clanging objects all at once, plus a touch of tilting nausea if you start to think a little too hard. Maquette is a recursive puzzler, primarily - another stylish, concept-heavy indie from arthouse publisher Annapurna Interactive - and the core is excellent. Each level, as such, occurs under a large, domed-roof structure, several stories high. Beneath…

• Annapurna's recursive puzzle adventure Maquette gets March release date - 8 February 2021

Maquette, the gorgeous "recursive" first-person puzzle adventure from developer Graceful Decay, finally has a release date and will be making its way to PlayStation and PC on 2nd March. A maquette, in case you're wondering, is a small preliminary model created by a sculptor before embarking on a full-scale project. It's a fitting enough moniker for a game that features model-like environments placed within larger-scale versions of themselves - which, in turn, are within larger-scale versions again - and where changes made to one model are reflected in all. For instance, dropping a cube onto a model of a courtyard might (to use an example featured in the latest trailer below) cause a larger version of that cube to simultaneously materialise in the courtyard surrounding the model, perhaps providing a means to progress. • Maquette is a beautiful puzzler where small changes have massive consequences - 27 February 2020

A maquette, Wikipedia tells me, is a “scale model or rough draft of an unfinished sculpture”. Maquette is also a beautiful new game from Graceful Decay and publishers Annapurna. Fittingly, those two definitions aren’t as separate as they might seem. Releasing sometime later this year, Maquette is a recursive first-person puzzle box about models within models, where small-scale adjustments can have a massive impact on the world at large. (more…)
