  Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. Before Bandersnatch , there was Sam ‘Her Story’ Barlow’s #WarGames . You may well have never heard of the latter, as this interactive TV-like-game came out rather quietly early last year and didn’t have the big ho-ha of being on Netflix or associated with one of the biggest TV shows on the planet. But if you thought Bandersnatch was the pinnacle of modern interactive entertainment, I’d argue that #WarGames does something a lot more interesting. (more…)

  Hi Steam Community - It has come to our attention that a few users who purchased #WarGames had technical issues accessing certain episodes. We are truly sorry for this issue, as well as our delay in responding to it. Your experience with our product, and the level of customer service surrounding it, should always be the most important priority. There is no doubt that in this case, we dropped the ball. As a fix, we have updated the current available build on Steam and addressed the technical issues we found. Going forward, we will make sure to monitor and respond to user feedback much more actively as we continue to push out our signature interactive content.

• WarGames is weird, occasionally boring yet somehow always fascinating - 21 March 2018

  At the end of the first episode of Sam Barlow's reimagining of WarGames, I got to look through all the choices I had made along the way. And the weird thing is, I didn't think I'd made any. I was thinking of choices that paused the action for a second and gave me a decision to think about and then act on. I was thinking of the big (literally) show-stopping moments in games like Life is Strange. What I should have been thinking about, perhaps, is a question of influence. You nudge WarGames around while watching it unfold. You nudge it through the very way that you watch it. It's fascinating stuff. It's also occasionally boring at times, and generally a delightful oddity. Sam Barlow has form, of course. • Her Story creator's #WarGames out now, reimagines 1983 Matthew Broderick film - 14 March 2018

  Sam Barlow, the mastermind of 2015's wonderful FMV thriller Her Story, returns today with #WarGames . Out now, the interactive adventure is modern slant on the Matthew Broderick-starring 1983 movie—this time with a hashtag in tow. Drawing from modern hacktivism—not least the work of Anonymous—#WarGames eschews gloomy stereotypes in favour of more charismatic and relatable programmers, and tasks players with making choices by way of video feeds.    Players assume control of Kelly Grant, "an ex-military brat", as she seeks justice for her ex-US Army sergeant mother who was killed in action.  Besides video feeds, the game's story unfolds via the cast's webcams, social media and smartphones, and promises a "seamless interactive video experience" that's personal to the player.
