2019 was an important year for our studio. Unruly Heroes has been released first in January on consoles and PC and then in May on PS4. The game was critically acclaimed by press and public. We were still working on the game with the Challenge Update, we've participated to game events and we're still working on a mobile version of the game. What's up for 2020? Well, we can't say much for now but we hope that we will surprise you. But everything won't be the same without our community. But this mainly concerns AAA and 3D games. But what about 2D games, huh? In Unruly Heroes, our team wanted to pay tribute to our talented artists by developping a photo mode so players can capture their kung-fu exploits, pay attention to details at any moments and express their creativity. DEVBLOG The Journey to the West tale is a mythological story about the Monkey King fighting against a different big demon at each new story. This is why the first influence we had was God of War, since it's a blend of exploration, fights and some light puzzles. When we designed the battle system at the beginning, it was a bit confusing. There were two combos: the light and the heavy. But people didn't seem to catch the difference between the two of them. Also, the heavy combos tended to have really amazing animations but since it was so slow, it was hard to see it in the game. (not a Pokemon) #Blocktober (initiated on Twitter by game designer Michael Barclay) celebrates the art of "blocking out" levels in video games. “Blocking out/in” an area in a game is done to show the scale of an area and to plan how the player will move through it. It's one of the earliest stages of the level design process where level designers visualize how players will interact in the map and move through. Everything is extremely rough. There is no art, texture work, lightning and other pretty nice details.
