  • The Quiet Man's new trailer celebrates how much The Quiet Man sucked - 20 December 2018

An "accolades trailer" is one that features gameplay and cinematics overlaid with glowing review scores and kind words from outlets such as ours—this one from the brilliant What Remains of Edith Finch is a fine example. Today, Square Enix released an accolades trailer for The Quiet Man , the live-action adventure/brawler about—as I understand it—a deaf guy who kicks ass in memory of his mom.    At this point you may be wondering how a game that Tyler described as " spectacularly bad " before he gave up in disgust could possibly be worthy of such a thing. The short answer is that it's not. The trailer is in Japanese, and the auto-generated English subtitles aren't exactly precise in their syntax, but there's no mistaking the quotes from the reviews: * "Inexplicable"; * "Catastrophic failure"; * "Worst Joke of the Century"; * "Trashhhhhhhhh";…

  • Podcast: Every game released in November reviewed very quickly* - 6 December 2018

There are too many games. November is over, but it was a big month, and our giant collective digi-trough runneth over with shooters, stabbers and clickers. It s repulsive and very wasteful, quite frankly. Thankfully, the RPS podcast (aka the Electronic Wireless Show ) is here to snort up the good uns and stamp all over the bad uns. This week the pod squad are running through as many newly released games as they can, from Hitman 2 to Darksiders III to Just Cause 4 to well, lots more. (more…)

  • The Quiet Man gets sound and subtitles in the new 'Answered' patch - 9 November 2018

The Quiet Man made a hell of an impression back in June with " the worst trailer at E3 ," and it more than lived up to that potential when it finally came out last week. Tyler, who played it so that you don't have to, described it as " a spectacular disaster ," not just a bad game but a full-scale catastrophic failure whose existence is even more remarkable when you consider that it comes from a major, reputable publisher.  But hey, maybe that's your thing, and if so, the new "Answered" update could be right up your alley. It adds all the sounds and subtitles that were missing—intentionally, as an artistic choice (that, like pretty much everything else, doesn't pan out)—from the game in its original release.    " allows players to re-experience Dane’s journey to rescue the singer Lala with sound, voices and full subtitle support for the…

  • Please do not play The Quiet Man with sound - 6 November 2018

Actual deaf people have played The Quiet Man and found it very much wanting ; when you play it you clip into almost every surface available and during fights may suddenly teleport from one punching animation to another with a block of frames missing in between; the main character Dane isn t a Quiet Man at all and he actually makes a lot of noise. Yes, sure, all that is true. You ve seen everyone tear into it already, and say why you absolutely should not buy it until it s approx. 3. But I also want a go doing that. Human Head Studios interactive movie punch em up (complete with live action bits) is largely devoid of sound, to reflect the deafness of protagonist Dane. But a few days from now the game will be receiving a NG+ update that lets you play the main story again, but with sound this time. And it is my solemn plea that you never, ever do that. (more…)

  • The Quiet Man is spectacularly bad - 1 November 2018

The Quiet Man, which released today, stars an Abercrombie & Fitch model—actually a bodyguard, I think—who seems to be obsessed with a woman who looks like his dead mom. I mean, maybe? The coupling of live action video and 3D combat is such a layer cake of clichés that I can't tell if it's meant to be a story or a promo for a stock video collection. Woman smiles. Men converse. It's a spectacular disaster, which feels like a rarity these days: there are lots of bad games, but for a game that was announced at E3 and made by a major publisher and studio to be this catastrophic is something. A quiet game The troubles start with an artistic premise that demands an amount of creative ingenuity that I quickly realized was not present. The protagonist, Dane, is deaf, and Square Enix and Human Head Studios commit to his perspective. During the live action cutscen…

  • FMV brawler The Quiet Man out now - 1 November 2018

The FMV revival continues today with the launch of The Quiet Man , a brawler which is supposed to switch “seamlessly” between live-action video, in-game cutscenes, and playable fisticuffs. It’s not a game I’d expect Square Enix to publish, not a game I’d expect Human Head (the studio behind the 2006 Prey) to make, and not a game I’d expect Imogen Heap to sing the theme song for, but here we are. (more…)

  • The Quiet Man's second playthrough will add sound in a game about deafness - 17 October 2018

It seems a little odd to instantly undermine your game's central selling point. Nonetheless, that's exactly what's happening with Square Enix's new title. The Quiet Man, which is due to release on PC and PlayStation this November, centres on the journey of a deaf protagonist as he searches for a kidnapped "songstress" in a dark city. According to the game's Steam page , one of the key features of the game is that players can "experience the world in the way Dane does" - in other words, without sound. How strange it is, then, that the game is receiving a post-release update which will add sound and speech on a second playthrough. The optional mode, which was revealed in a recent Japanese live stream (via Gematsu ), is due to arrive one week after the game's release. The Quiet Man's Steam page description explains that the first playthrough will have "very little distinct audio and no sub…

  • Squeenix s weird FMV brawler The Quiet Man out in November - 3 October 2018

Live-action video and third-person beat ’em up will combine in The Quiet Man on November 1st, publishers Square Enix announced today. Neither the brawling nor the movie look particularly great but I remain delighted by games reviving ye olde FMV ways, trying to combine two mighty different mediums in ways that mostly result in actors chewing scenery. I absolutely think games can combine the two in fascinating ways; I do not think The Quiet Man will be one of the games to do that. Here, come watch a big lump of it. (more…)

  • Live-action hybrid adventure The Quiet Man ghosts onto PC this November - 3 October 2018

The Quiet Man , a new action-adventure game that blends live-action video with gameplay, will launch next month, publisher Square Enix has announced. Developed by Human Head Studios, the creators of the original Prey , the Quiet Man centres around the story of a young deaf man with a penchant for punching named Dane, as he searches for a kidnapped singer called Lala. The above trailer shows snippets from both the game and its live-action sequences. The live-action bits seem well shot and acted, at least, although the transition from that to the game sections is a pretty stark one. How the game will actually play isn’t clear from the trailer either, although apparently the combat system is choreographed by Tatsuro Koike, the same fellow who directed the fights in the Yakuza games. One thing that Square Enix do make clear is that the player will be experiencing a “soundless&…

  • Oddball live action hybrid The Quiet Man release date - 3 October 2018

Oddball live action video game hybrid The Quiet Man has a release date, and it's sooner than we expected. The game will launch for PlayStation 4 and Steam in Japan on 1st November - we're checking with publisher Square Enix now if this means it'll arrive here the same day in Europe. Announced back at E3 , The Quiet Man is a mysterious new narrative-focused game from Human Head Studios, the team responsible for the original 2006 Prey, designed to be completed in one sitting. Here's a new trailer: Read more…

  • The Quiet Man will be a three-hour mix of live-action and gameplay - 10 August 2018

Square Enix introduced The Quiet Man with what may have been (and, in hindsight, I'm quite confident was) the worst trailer of E3 : A man enters an alley, kicks some ass, and leaves a bag on a guy's face. Why? We did not know. But now, thanks to a live reveal event that took place yesterday, we have a slightly better idea of what's going on.  (The gameplay, if you want to get straight to it, starts around 39:30.) It turns out that the quiet man beat up the alley men because the hot dog man told him to. And then he beat up some other guys, stole a briefcase filled with drugs, delivered it to his crime kingpin friend, had a flashback to the day his mother died, beat up some more guys, I skipped a bunch of stuff, and then watched helplessly as someone who may or may not be his girlfriend was kidnapped by some mysterious thugs.  If that sounds confusing, it's b…

  • Square Enix tease The Quiet Man - 11 June 2018

The bods at Square Enix teased a new game called The Quiet Man during their E3 video presentation. There isn’t much to it, except that it features a pale deaf (and presumably mute) character with good back-alley brawling skills. The game, curiously, is half live-action and half graphical biffing – as you can see in the announcement trailer below. (more…)

  • Square Enix teases new PC, PS4 game The Quiet Man - 11 June 2018

It's being helmed by Human Head Studios - the team responsible for the original Prey back in 2006, and its cancelled sequel (which we covered as part of a Here's a Thing episode ). Short description

THE QUIET MAN™ delivers an immersive story driven cinematic action experience seamlessly blending high-production live action, realistic CG and pulse-pounding action gameplay.

About this game

THE QUIET MAN™ delivers an immersive story driven cinematic action experience seamlessly blending high-production live action, realistic CG and pulse-pounding action gameplay. Unravelling within a single night, players take the role of deaf protagonist Dane as he fights his way through a “soundless” world to discover the motives behind the kidnapping of a songstress from a mysterious masked man. Embark on an adrenaline-fueled motion picture like experience which can be completed in one sitting. Disclaimers: You play as a deaf character, Dane, and experience the world as the character does – with very little distinct audio and no subtitles: it’s up to you to make up your own interpretation of the story as your search for the masked man unfolds. The content of this videogame is purely fictional, it is not intended to represent or depict any actual event, person, or entity, and any such similarities are purely coincidental. The makers and publishers of this videogame do not in any way endorse, condone, or encourage engaging in any conduct depicted in this videogame. Subtitles will only appear when spoken dialogue is intended to be heard or understood. For narrative purposes, no subtitles will be displayed for most scenes regardless of this setting. Language will be auto-detected based on your Computer system software language settings. KEY FEATURES Experience a “soundless” world The player not only controls Dane but also experiences the world in the way Dane does. As a deaf protagonist the audio landscape of the world he lives in consists of soundless and muffled audio, leaving it up to the player to make their own interpretation as the search for the masked man unfolds. Exhilarating combat: - Experience fast, visceral and adrenaline-fueled combat choreographed by Tatsuro Koike, renowned for directing the action in the Yakuza franchise. - Simple on the surface, but with brutal combos, the combat system is easy to pick up like old school beat’em-up action games, whilst offering combat variation and thrill. - Unleash an arsenal of combat moves ranging from punch and kick combos, to grappling and throwing enemies. - Give stunned opponents a savage beat down o…

Price History Overview

USD uses SteamPulse's own locally recorded daily store snapshots, so this overview reflects the exact regional price history that SteamPulse has captured for this currency.

Coverage And Tracking Window

  • Snapshots: 1
  • Coverage: Oct 15, 2026 to Oct 15, 2026
  • Lowest observed: $2.99
  • Highest observed: $2.99

THE QUIET MAN™'s USD price history spans from Oct 15, 2026 to Oct 15, 2026, with 1 recorded snapshot across 1 calendar day. Each row records the available final price, listed base price, and discount metadata for that observation. Within this coverage the lowest recorded price is $2.99, the highest is $2.99, and the first visible tracked price is $2.99. These comparisons apply only to the snapshots SteamPulse holds; missing observations can contain changes that are not represented here.

For USD, SteamPulse uses locally captured regional storefront snapshots and does not reconstruct older prices with exchange-rate conversion. The chart and table show the values recorded for this exact currency from the stated coverage start. Additional snapshots extend that record, but they do not fill unobserved days or prove what the storefront displayed between observations.

Discount Windows And Sale Timing

  • Discount windows: 1
  • Discounted days: 1 day
  • Deepest markdown: -80%
  • Latest sale window: Oct 15, 2026 to Oct 15, 2026

SteamPulse has grouped rows carrying discount metadata into 1 recorded discount window, covering 1 calendar day and 1 discounted snapshot. The deepest recorded markdown is -80%, with a lowest recorded final price of $2.99 during rows named Steam sale. The latest recorded window starts Oct 15, 2026 and ends Oct 15, 2026, spanning 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking. Window boundaries follow the available snapshots, so gaps in coverage can make an actual sale shorter or longer than the recorded span.

Recorded sale names include Steam sale. The table reports the observed markdown, final price, snapshot dates, and any sale name supplied with the row. It can show whether similar discounts recur in the retained record, but it does not infer publisher intent, demand, or the reason a price changed.

Observed Price Changes And Stable Runs

  • Observed price drops: 0
  • Observed price rises: 0
  • Longest stable run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking
  • Current run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking

Outside rows carrying discount metadata, the tracked price has not recorded a separate price rise or drop yet. That means the observed undiscounted level has stayed stable across the snapshots SteamPulse currently holds. This is a statement about the recorded coverage only; it does not prove that an older or missing price change never happened.

The longest unchanged price stretch in the current record lasts 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking at $2.99, from Oct 15, 2026 through Oct 15, 2026. The latest run records $2.99 for 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking with a listed discount from $14.99. Run lengths describe consecutive stored observations only and do not establish that a price is permanent.

Latest Snapshot And Sales Context

  • Current price: $2.99
  • Current list price: $14.99
  • Distinct observed prices: 1
  • Source mode: SteamPulse local tracking

The latest tracked snapshot records THE QUIET MAN™ at $2.99 in USD, with a listed base price of $14.99 and a -80% markdown. Across the available history SteamPulse has recorded 1 distinct final price in this currency. This supports comparisons with the lowest, highest, and most common values present in the retained record, subject to the stated coverage limits.

The live sales view and Steam sales record provide calendar context for these dates. A date overlap can be compared with a named Steam event, but it does not prove why a publisher changed a price. As new daily rows arrive, this overview recalculates its observed prices, discount windows, and run lengths automatically.
