- Square Enix celebrates Tomb Raider's 25th Anniversary with new Switch ports - 28 October 2021
Square Enix is celebrating Tomb Raider's 25th Anniversary this week with a bunch of announcements, including ports of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris for Nintendo Switch in 2022. Speaking of portable gaming, three original English-language Lara Croft voice actors will join Keeley Hawes in Tomb Raider Reloaded when the mobile game launches next year. Players will be able to choose classic voices such as Shelley Blond (Tomb Raider), Judith Gibbins (Tomb Raider 2 and 3), Jonell Elliott (The Last Revelation, Chronicles, The Angel of Darkness), or Keeley Hawes (Legend, Anniversary and Tomb Raider: Underworld). Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. For all the bruisings, beatings and impalings that Lara Croft endures in the recent rebooted trilogy, the real victim was Tomb Raider s sense of scale. Everything became crushed down to deliver fidelity. There were temples, sure, but you viewed them from cramped tunnels as you scurried past guards, and towering structures were only seen from the extreme close-up of a climbing wall or the long-distance photo op as you were shepherded along ziplines. Yamatai, Siberia and Peru are vast landscapes you view from a thin corridor of interaction. And even then control is wrestled away with endless QTEs. Returning to Tomb Raider: Underworld s gargantuan locations is like stepping off an EasyJet flight and feeling the blood rush back to your ankles. (more…)

Square Enix is launching a new Web-based gaming portal that offers some of the company's back catalog for free. The "CoreOnline" service lets you play Hitman: Blood Money or Mini Ninjas by either watching advertisements between chunks of the games, or paying a fee to bypass them. The CoreOnline site (via GI.biz ) only boasts those two games so far, but promises others on the way like Tomb Raider Underworld and Gyromancer . Save data is also stored on the cloud, so you can pick up from a different computer or browser at any time. This isn't the first time the publisher has experimented with cloud gaming. During the launch of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the publisher included a free OnLive version of the game with every retail copy, leading to a scuffle with GameStop. It appears Square Enix is now more interested in pursuing its own platform, instead of partnering with the beleaguered stre…

- PS3 Getting Tomb Raider Trilogy In 2011 - 19 December 2010
The PS3 will get a Tomb Raider trilogy comprised of high-definition re-releases of of Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Anniversary, plus Tomb Raider Underworld, says a senior executive with the studio that made the games. Karl Stewart, the global brand director for Crystal Dynamics, confirmed via Twitter that a German Amazon.com listing for the trilogy is legitimate. "Yes, it's official. #TombRaider PS3 'Trilogy' pack coming in the new year. Full details next week. Watch this space." Joystiq noticed the German listing earlier today. The trilogy's listing gave March 22 as a delivery date, and says that all three games will offer trophy support. The collector's edition will unlock male and female avatars for use in PlayStation Home.
