  • Streamer Mode, Bug Fixes, Small Update (Build 315) - 25 August 2026

This is a small update that brings a handful of nice improvements in the meantime while the larger updates for later this year are still being worked on. Notable things include Anonymize Names (aka Streamer Mode) - Toggle this On or Off under Options -> Online. This will turn disguise all player names on the UI to avoid privacy concerns for players recording or broadcasting content. Updated local game docs, added Credits and .css styling Updated launcher to include changes from fossil project - we've now open sourced the compatibilty launcher under MIT license so that it may inspire similar fixes for games with similar technology issues Added new sounds on Main menu load in Change death sounds slightly to be more impact sounds and less screeching sounds Revived the old “use ability” dragon vocalizations but with more up to date attentuation Bumped default UI audio mix up 10% Bumped defa…

  • June Leaderboard + Small Update (Build 312) - 1 July 2026

Congratulations to the players on top at the end of June 2026! It's going to be a while before the full population has their last login date updated. Eventually, that may contribute to Leaderboard positions. Excited to see how the next few months progress. Small update following the last major update Fixed some missing UI sounds on Loadout screen Updated Discord button link Removed a couple of pyrite locations from Practice map (too many) Removed some lingering debug statements Fixed an issue where player join message would not always have their region Fixed various issues with server listing names New option: Frame rate limit has been changed to a slider, instead of 60 or unlimited. The range you are given now is 0-600, which should be plenty. By default, it's set to 0 which is unlimited. Adjust it as you wish, but having a limit should fix an occasional issue where fluctuating frame r…

  • Practice, Guide, and Magic | Summer 2026 Update - 23 June 2026

This update brings over 200+ changes and improvements to the game. We’re building on the Spring update and putting the game in a better state for later 2026 content. Flying speed has been increased btw. Please read below for the full list of new things! Practice mode Practice mode is a dedicated space that allows you to test & learn the game. There’s a tools menu that let’s you add bots, reset health, try out every perk, magic, and ability, and more. This will likely be expanded in many ways later on, so if you have any feedback please share. New players will be recommended to spend some time in Practice. Minutes spent in practice will also be a new stat, and after spending your first 5 minutes there, you’ll earn a bonus 1,500 Material for doing so. • Updates, plus Global Leaderboard End of May 2026 - 2 June 2026

Top 24 of Skyfear's Leaderboard at the end of May 2026! Going to continue to post this at the end of every month. Congratulations to those players! And now for some updates. The following is referring to the next update to Skyfear coming in mid-June 2026. Leaderboard adjustments Leaderboard skillscore calculation will be getting some tweaks, which includes adding a new stat to the public: Last login. We will now see how many days its been since your last play on your leaderboard entry. Stats are not stored online automatically. They are stored in your save data. Only a select few stats used for the leaderboard are synced to the online component of this game. Which means when I add new stats, that stat in the online copy will be blank until the user opens the game again, where it can then be synced. With that said, Last login will not impact your skillscore, for now. It may someday in th…

  • Global Leaderboard | End of April 2026 - 6 May 2026

Here's a look at the top 24 entries in Skyfear's Global Leaderboard as of the end of April 2026! Cool to see how many players there are with high ratios and time spent in battle. This is the first official congratulations to those players. Sharing Leaderboard snapshots monthly is something I'm considering + exploring some ideas on how to reward players in-game for rotating time periods. Feedback on this is very welcome, I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments or Discord. Lots of work to do on this game, preparing the next few updates as we speak. See ya in the arenas! - telekrex, lead dev

Performance & Bugs Several performance improvements in all environments Fixed an issue where text chat becomes un-focusable after exiting focus unless user manually re-focused the game window Text chat focus keybinding changed to Y by default instead of ENTER Fixed an issue where pressing ESC to return to the Main Menu in Lairwould would skip the confirmation dialogue if you had used the customization menu Additions Post-game summary now includes your current career total Material underneath the Material you earned in that battle Added big head mode. Type “/bighead” into chat to toggle on/off Updated artwork/thumbnails for all environments Cafe (Commercial) License released LAN branch will get an up to date build following this update See commit log for full list of changes.

  • Coming Soon - Spring Update - 9 February 2026

Work on Skyfear has been quietly but smoothly continuing in 2026. I plan on releasing the next update in March and this update will bring some small yet significant changes to Skyfear that I believe improve the game's main draw and make it more engaging. Coming in the Spring Update Main Menu changes. The game will present you with the Main Menu first instead of dropping you into the Lairworld. This has been requested for quite some time and I finally came up with a logic design for how to impliment this that I was happy with. Lairworld will now be entered through the Main Menu, and you can just enter and exit as you like, but the Main Menu will now be served first which a majority of new players are going to be more pleased with. In-game updates menu. There will now be a place in-game to view all the documents and things related to Skyfear such as these blog posts. This was halfway alre…

  • 4v4, Freelook, & More | December 2025 Update - 12 December 2025

It's time for Skyfear's final update of 2025! This update completes a long list of smaller things that I believe brings the game to a good state, where I can now fully focus on some major new things. Highlights of this update: 4V4! All game modes (except for Duel) have been increased from 6 players to 8, making battles 4V4. After extensive testing and discussion, it seemed that this improves the game's pacing. Battles should now be slightly more intense! Free-look! Replaces the old "shoulder cam". Press and hold G to orbit the camera around you and see more of the battle. Freeplay mode! A new game mode that's empty. Use it for free roaming the arenas, practicing moves, or just enjoying the prehistoric atmospheres. Some new visual/particle effects! Dragons now burst when killed, emitting streaming projectiles of whatever magic they had equipped. Smoke trails have also been added to bolt…

  • Community Update | Looking Ahead - 21 November 2025

After 8 months of Early Access, I’ve learned a lot. And after recently taking a break, I’d like to regroup and establish what’s happening next and how it’s getting there. Skyfear has always been envisioned as a game that you can pick up 15+ years from now, and it can still deliver, no matter how many players are online. It’s got a backbone that can stand on its own completely locally, but has additionally the ability to host online sessions. This fundemental approach is why I say that Skyfear isn’t going away any time soon. Think like Portal 2. That’s the idea. Right, so what’s in store? The primary goal is to bring Skyfear out of Early Access in 2026, and to a state of completion. Maintenance, development, content, and community things will still continue, but when I talk about completion, I’m talking about a stable codebase and design that doesn’t need much further change. The plus si…

  • Steam invites, Fixes, Performance | Stability Update B293 - 16 October 2025

A small update addressing a variety of things. Fixes Steam invites now work Graphics and resolution settings should now work for all users. If you don't see any changes, try toggling the screen mode to something else, then back again. This should refresh the engine. Weird quirk of UE4.21. Graphics settings will now update when you select "Use recommended". Fixed various issues with the game's reading of the current screen resolution. Improved handling of bolt spawns Fixed some issues with roar audio/location Fixed pyrite rock spawn location inconsistency Routine maintenance & updated various online service modules. Cleaned up old/broken leaderboard entries. Code of Conduct updated; just neater wording and widget. Removed no longer needed debug prints. Fixed (fingers crossed) bots getting stuck on the back wall of Chasm. Fixed various visible lava mesh placement issues on Lairworld. Fixe…

  • Data issue fix, Build 289 - 5 October 2025

Build 288 (October update build) was accidentally shipped with existing save data included (used in testing). I believe anyone that has ran Build 288 may have had their save overwritten by Steam's update. On October 4th I updated a new build that does not include any save data folders or files, as Skyfear.exe is supposed to generate those if they don't exist. Build 289 checks your save data for this DNA (Profile ID): S+2025.9.29+NORTHAMERICA+Mega-Voyager-71DCC88+monstermonster+DDDB48BB4B6F60DFD847D7A0F99B3FD9 (which is the test save) and if found, will ignore loading it. Which should result in the following: If you have the test data, you should be prompted to create a new save. If you have no data at all, you should be prompted to create a new save. If you have data in your Steam cloud, your game should load normally. If you haven't updated yet or haven't played since before October 1s…

  • Bots in multiplayer! | October 2025 Update - 1 October 2025

Bots are now in multiplayer! When you start a multiplayer session, bots will fill empty slots until players arrive. You can start the match with or without players. You may also switch teams at will, as of last update I changed it so you can do this during battle and not just warm up. In Skyfear's current state where there is not an abundance of players online concurrently, I want to give you as many tools as possible to allow battles to still function and, as much as possible, let you play how you want. Feedback on this is very welcome. Health and magic pickups Glowing orbs of health and magic are arranged in all of the arenas! Snag them at opportune moments to restock and prepare for your next encounter. They will respawn frequently. Feedback on this is very welcome. Other things fixed or added in this udpate Added press kit to website Cleaned up skyfear launch script repository Fixed…

  • Spores, New Players, Spectating & More | August 2025 Update - 21 August 2025

Skyfear's August update brings a ton of fixes and changes to accommodate the new-player experience. The #1 priority after this update is getting bots into multiplayer. But for now, the highlights include: Spores & Lairworld Earned Spores will now appear in the post game menu as icons Icons will now appear over Spores in the Lairworld, providing more context from far away Improved visual effects and readability of Spores and the egg element Added a Welcome Screen that explains Spores to new players 1 Spore will now be given to you upon starting a new save, so that the Lairworld has a working example for new players immediately Fixed an issue where Spore claim UI would dissapear if you didn't have enough Material but tried to claim it Added trees to spore vegetation spawns Spore vegetation now has more wind animation and color Spore vegetation spawn radius and population adjusted Lairworl…

  • Bug Fixes, Improvements | July 2025 Update - 21 July 2025

This month's update is focused on bug fixes and clean-up, so it's smaller than the last few. That said, there's some larger things that have progressed in the background that will come soon. Here are some of the highlights that've been done since June:Adjusted/improved position/scale of spine cosmeticsAdjusted/improved position of horn cosmeticsNew option/feature: Input Feed on/off, on HUD - shows you a feed of what inputs are being pressedAdded some extra lighting around the player at all timesFix an issue related to joining serversAbility charge % added to the HUD under the same setting as Show MP/HPNew texture used for Grid environmentFixed an issue where bots would sometimes not use the current sessions respawn timer valueImproved player class component loadingFixed an issue where match feed would not display when bots spawn/respawnMade the scoreboard slightly wider in-gameFOV interp…

  • Quick fix, Build 270 - 26 June 2025

Moved Castle to the front of the arena list Updated Leaderboard description Fixed an issue where Leaderboard menu could not be closed Removed some filming stuff

  • New Arena, Leaderboards, and More | June 2025 - 25 June 2025

This month's update expands the world of Skyfear:New Arena: CastleThe first new entry into the arena list brings a massive twisty pile-up of coral rock out from under a shallow ocean. This was one of roughly 13 new arenas that were half-made prior to launch. Any and all feedback on Castle is welcome, as that will greatly help me understand the aspects of Skyfear's environments that make battling fun, and help me decide which arenas to pursue next and what they'll need to have.LeaderboardsWant to see where you stack up against others in your region? Every hour, your stats are combined to calculate a skill score, and the list is posted in-game so you and your friends can see. This feature will be highly subject to change for now, as I expect it will raise questions and ideas for ways to improve it or features to tie into it. Feedback on this feature is extra welcome.Cosmetics12 new cosmet…
