- Preview: New character models are coming - 25 December 2023
We have worked on new models for the 6 playable species, here is a little preview of the Mej'it model. It's still not final, and I am currently having a discussion with the artist about the texture resolution. As you can see, the voxels on the character have a single color, while the rest of the environment is textured (at 4x the resolution). Since I am making this game for you, I think it's best to ask the community: please let me know which style you prefer. Additionally, I am on the fence about the size of the head. It may be a little big.
- Windows 7 support is ending - 4 November 2023
The next version of Cube Universe will no longer support Windows 7. Some of the performance improvements absolutely need a CPU instruction that is officially not available in Windows 7. Since Microsoft has ended their support for Windows 7, I have decided to end it in favor of better performance. Specifically, the next version of the game will have an option to often or always reuse RAM internally instead of returning it to the operating system. This significantly improves performance on systems with many cores, which are getting more common these days. For this to work, I need the InterlockedCompareExchange128 function, which is not officially supported on Windows 7. It may still work - it does on my old laptop - but there is no guarantee. I am sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. But honestly, if you still use Windows 7, you should probably upgrade for security reasons alone.

- Cube Universe is back on Steam! - 16 October 2022
After almost 4 years, Cube Universe is again available on Steam. A lot has changed since. I've added procedurally generated villages, dungeons, and a lot of quests. You can now visit space stations and fight against other spaceships. Many other things have improved as well, including a better world generation, better performance, better graphics, weather, ... I have been asked countless times if Cube Universe was on Steam since I had decided to unlist it. I have come to the conclusion that it was the wrong decision. Well, at least it gave me time to improve the game, because frankly, I have released it too early. Or maybe too late. It wasn't 2010 anymore, the hype around Early Access games had calmed down - rightfully so, given what had happened to some games and developers. Anyway, I can't change the past. But I can change the future. I am close to being done with the programming of Cu…

- Devlog #14: The Past, the Present, and the Future - 9 July 2019
I have written a long post about... well... everything, from the beginning of the development of Cube Universe to today - and a look ahead into the future. You can read it on our website: https://www.beosar.com/news/10 I want to thank all of you for your support. You trusted in me and bought my game despite it being in a very early stage. I will not disappoint you, I am still working on the game and will continue to do so in the future. With the money I make selling the game on my website, I will hire people and deliver the features I have promised.
- Launching our new forums! - 29 June 2019
Hi! We have just finished our new forums! They are available in multiple languages (English and German at the moment) and due to them being custom-made they offer more/different possibilities than the Steam forums, first and foremost the support for multiple languages. It's also easier to find our posts because they are highlighted. On Steam, most people ended up using the General discussion forum because it's the one that comes up when you click on Discussions. We fixed this by adding a forum overview with all forums and their descriptions. We also added a lot more forums than on our Steam discussion board. We will look into the Steam forums from time to time, but we highly recommend using our new forums at forums.cubeuniverse.net. There will be some updates to the forums - a better design, notifications etc. - but not before the launch of the quest update.
- Quest Update Preview Released! - 21 April 2019

- Roadmap for 2019 - 31 December 2018
Hi everyone! I'd like to share our roadmap for 2019 with you. January 4th: Cube Universe will leave Steam (see Devlog #11 for more details), but development will continue. We are working on a big update that will add a lot of features and we need to make sure everything works correctly, therefore we won't release any live updates until then. We plan to release updates on the public test version as kind of previews, so you can try them out and give us some feedback if you like to. February June: Our new website will launch, including a news feed, forum, support tickets, and more. March August: Release of update Alpha 0.3.0, adding villages, more quests, scenarios (e.g. a village being attacked) (moved to Alpha 0.5.0 update), and space shuttles (moved to Alpha 0.3.1 update). With the launch of that update, we will also launch our store where you can buy the game (and later merchandise lik…
- Devlog #12: Looking back and ahead - 24 December 2018
Hi everyone! I thought the end of the year would be a good time to think about what happened in 2018 and to give you some info on what we plan to do with Cube Universe in 2019. Cube Universe is my first game, so I didn't have much experience back when I released it on Steam. In retrospect, I think it was a mistake to release it this early, but I don't regret it because I've learned a lot (especially in terms of marketing) that will be very helpful in the future. And your feedback helped a lot to improve the game. Thank you very much for trusting us and buying a game that is in Early Access. We appreciate your support and will use your money to improve Cube Universe. In 2019, Cube Universe will leave Steam for several reasons. See Devlog #11 for more info on this. You will get all updates through our launcher, the only thing that changes is that you will not be able to buy it on Steam an…
- Devlog #11: Time to say goodbye - 14 December 2018
Hi everyone! We want to give you the opportunity to play on servers hosted by us in the future, both official servers (no mods) and your own servers that can have mods. To make this possible, we need money, in other words, a monthly subscription or hosting fee, whatever you like to call it. You will still be able to host your own game server on your PC or a third-party server as well as play in singleplayer. Although it will take some time until we have set up everything to support official servers and server hosting, we need to consider the costs for that already. Unfortunately, this means we can't sell the game on Steam anymore because Valve would get a significant revenue share when you subscribe to our service. We have to set up our own infrastructure, which is a huge investment, so it is not affordable for us to pay a large chunk of our income to Valve because we want to offer this…

- Alpha 0.2.1.11 - 31 October 2018
I had some time today to play the game for a little longer and to test it. I found a few bugs and fixed them in the patch I just released (Alpha 0.2.1.11).
