• Gotham Knights headlines Humble’s Türkiye-Syria Earthquake Relief Bundle - 2 March 2023

  Humble Bundle’s latest is raising money for relief efforts in southern Türkiye and northern Syria due to the earthquakes which have killed over 50,000 people and displaced thousands more. The bundle compiles over 60 games, including some heavy hitters such as Gotham Knights and XCOM 2 , alongside some smaller gems like Backbone and Cris Tales. The Earthquake Relief Bundle is available for £25/$30 (or any higher price) until March 8th and all proceeds will be going to charity. Read more

• Detective adventure Backbone is getting another game next year - 21 December 2021

  If you simply can't get enough of raccoon detectives sleuthing around dystopian Vancouver, then you're in luck, because more is on the way. Developers EggNut have announced that a new Backbone game is coming in 2022, dropping us back into the snowy, animal-filled city. We don't know much about it yet, but Backbone is an excellent detective puzzle game, and a gorgeous one at that, so I have high hopes for the next one. Read more

• One of the year's best games headlines October Game Pass titles - 19 October 2021

  Microsoft has revealed a strong line-up of games coming to Xbox Game Pass over the remainder of October. As always, first-party Microsoft projects will launch into the service, as well as the usual assortment of indie and AAA projects. The releases begin today, with Outriders arriving on PC Game Pass , alongside indie retro FPS Into the Pit, which arrives on PC, console and Cloud. October 21 sees the release of three games. Dragon Ball FighterZ arrives on console and Cloud Game Pass. Indie turn-based adventure Echo Generation launches into Game Pass on PC, console and Cloud. The excellent space shooter Everspace 2 also drops on PC Game Pass on the same day. Read more

• Backbone review: it's not what you expect, but hot damn is it pretty - 8 June 2021

  An important part of having a lovely time with something is setting your expectations correctly. Just ask the two old ladies who I once saw going into a screening of Zombieland and leaving after approximately seven minutes. So in that spirit, it seems important to tell you that Backbone is not the point and click detective adventure game with all puzzles you might have thought it was. It's more accurately described as a grim, philosophical, story-focused noir game about collectivism vs. individualism, dressed up in the tropes of a detective puzzle game. Like The Good Place with more depression, or Disco Elysium with raccoons. Read more

• Darkest Dungeon is coming to Xbox Game Pass For PC next week - 2 June 2021

  Microsoft have announced the next handful of games coming to Xbox Game Pass For PC, and one of my absolute faves is on the list. The gloomy turn-based roguelike Darkest Dungeon will be available on the subscription service on June 10th; an excellent chance for players who might've missed it to give it a go before the sequel launches later this year. On June 8th, the raccoon detective game Backbone is hitting the service too. Read more

  Hey, detectives! Today is the launch of one of our Raw Fury-family games – both games feature anthropomorphic animals! The Longest Road on Earth is a game that revolves around its music with over 24 tracks sung by Beicoli, one of the developers.   Detective adventure game Backbone has at last sleuthed itself a release date and it sure has snuck up. This super stylish mystery is set in a dystopian Vancouver populated by animal folks with some mid-century fashion flair. I and multiple other RPS minds have been looking forward to this one for its lovely looks and swell dialogue. • The best Steam Festival demos: RPGs - 19 June 2020

  Readers, I have put on my waders and made my way into the deep mill pool of the Steam Game Festival: Summer edition free demos. There are a lot, so I confined myself to RPGs. This isn’t an exhaustive list, of course, even though I got overexcited and did far too many, but it’s hopefully going to give you a place to start. If you saw RPGs and thought “Christ, she’s done a list of all elves and wizards and that” then you’re wrong . There’s only, like, two elves, and the rest is an array of witches, sentient animals, magic paintbrushes and surreal dreamscapes. Wares to suit every purse (especially because these demos are all free for the weekend, right?).
