- Update 1.4 | Glow Up - 6 August 2026
The last couple years we've been working really hard on SimplePlanes 2, it was time to deliver on the years old promise, but why keep it at that? 1.4 is our biggest update since 1.0, there's so much to cover, and what a better way to start than with the amazing trailer made by @DeepSpaceIndustries:Reentries have received the facelift they deserved. The old image effect is gone, replaced by a mesh-based shock that blends from condensation to plasma depending on Mach and atmospheric density, with a long trail when you come in too hot. That glow extends to the engines too: nozzles now heat up and shine based on their temperature, active cooling actually runs them cooler, and Overthrottle overheats instead of instantly damaging them, so if you manage your temperatures you can push them for longer.Speaking of which, jets got a "LOX Afterburner" mode to keep burning where there's no air, with…
- Update 1.4 Beta! - 24 June 2026
Almost 3 years ago we said "Coming Soon"; soon is now! The last couple years we've been working really hard on SimplePlanes 2, so it was about time we delivered on the years old promise, but why keep it at that? 1.4 is our biggest update since 1.0, there's so much to cover that we'll just let the release notes speak for themselves (they're at the bottom of this post). You can try 1.4 on Steam by joining the Open Beta branch, and once stable we'll push it out for everyone. Thanks for your patience! On another note, congrats to @fe1nnecfox, @PigeonPruu, @VoidAerospace, @CardZLol and @Swordi001 for being the first to listen closely! As promised here is the original song featured in Cladh's Easter Egg :)1.4 UpdateYou may notice we mention Localization in this changelog yet you can't find any language selector in-game, so let us explain: We want to work with the community to bring the game to…

The game has come a very long way since then, and we’re really excited for you all to finally get to see first-hand what we’ve been working on for the past few years. - The SimplePlanes 2 Demo is LIVE! - 27 October 2025
The SimplePlanes 2 Flight Demo is officially live! To participate, just go to the SimplePlanes 2 Steam page and click the “Request Access” button in the playtest box. The game will automatically be added to your Steam library so you can just download it and start playing! This demo runs until November 3, so you have all week to play. What To ExpectAs we’ve talked about before, this demo does not contain the building mechanics other than the paint tool, it is instead focused on the multiplayer sandbox aspect of the game on a small section of the map. You can try out all of the new stock crafts, repaint and texture them to your liking with the paint tool, race your friends (or blow them up), protect Driftwood Island from bombers and mechs, and probably also break the game in ways we hadn’t thought of.When you enter a craft for the first time there will be a little quick start guide telling…
- Update 1.3.2 | A Lick of Paint - 28 November 2024
As most of you already know we have been really busy working on SimplePlanes 2 but we managed to find some time to bring you a small-ish update to fix some concerning bugs we had been seeing affecting career, and while we were at it, spice things up a bit with a visual refresh, new celestial bodies and big performance improvements. It's no secret some of the contracts added in 1.3 have been technically challenging, we released multiple patches to try to address various issues making it hard to complete the Space Station and Rover contracts. Even with all those efforts there were still various game breaking bugs we struggled to reproduce, but thanks to all your bug reports we think we have finally fixed them for good 🤞. Sadly if you got a contract really stuck it may need to be canceled and restarted, if you find yourself in a hard to solve situation let us know. On the topic of Career…
- Update 1.3 | STRANDED - 1 May 2024
It's been a while since we started this beta! We had to deal with some bureaucratic hiccups we weren't expecting but we are finally on the clear :D Now onto what comes with 1.3, which is actually a lot. As an ice breaker, something that can be often missed: With 1.3 we are bringing some big performance improvements, which will especially benefit large part count crafts. We have seen some cases that now run more than twice as fast! On top of improving performance, we have also done some quality of life improvements that although subtle, can have a great impact on gameplay, like overhauling the Rocket Engine exhaust damage, and the visuals of the exhausts. Performance aside, the main focus of this update is overhauling the Career Mode experience: 15 unique rescue contracts across land, water, space... even on Luna's surface! A whole suite of Space Station contracts, providing you some pre…
- Update 1.2 - 25 September 2023
As you may have already seen, we have been collaborating with Linx to help him port his KSP mod "Parallax" into JNO. The mod is available here and it brings some jaw dropping visual enhancements to the game. The two main areas where we have focused are the rocket engine exhausts and the procedural wings but there are more changes and improvements you can find in the Release Notes. NEW EXHAUST It has been more than 4 years since JNO got one of its signature features, the visual expansion of its plumes in procedural rocket engines. After this long it is easy to forget how ground-breaking that moment was, but since then the visuals lagged a bit behind and you sure let us know! For this facelift we have decided not just to reimplement the visuals and logic behind this dynamic plumes, but also to hand you the wheel and let you choose how you want them to look with over a dozen properties to…
- UPDATE 1.1 | Spin Me Round - 30 June 2023
When 1.0 came out there were two clear problems with the progression of Career mode: planes going from gliders to jet engines and crew not being relevant. We took our time because we wanted to get things right, and I think you will like what the result is. We like things being procedural, giving you as much flexibility as possible when building the wildest of creations. Who would've guessed, procedural isn't easy! The new propeller part is the result of many months of work, starting last year, and it is a game changer for both air and water vehicles. One of the main complaints we have received since the release of 1.0 is that the game lacks some soul. We think flossing or doing weird faces would be out of character for the Droods, but we want to let you do whatever you want. So if you want to floss, you can floss, all you want! Until now, whenever you had crew sitting in a chair in your…
- A Juicy Update w/ ESA - 12 April 2023
For the last month you may have noticed we have been acting a bit weird. We said we were going to go straight to 1.1 with the propellers and more contracts, but we got a bit sidetracked... Today we can finally talk about it, a collaboration with the European Space Agency! We have been in talks with ESA to include JUICE in the game. The JUpiter ICy moons Explorer is the first European mission to visit a Gas Giant. It will launch tomorrow, April 13th, from Kourou, French Guiana, on top of an Ariane V, heading towards the moons of Jupiter after an insane chain of Gravity Assist. To commemorate this launch we have added a new Sandbox Challenge to the game, where you'll be in charge of getting JUICE to visit all moons of Tydos with the least possible Delta-V. In order to better support this mission we have added new properties to the solar panel arrays, such as a new hinge with a custom depl…
- Version 1.0.9 - Greatly improved the user experience in Map View - 15 March 2023
This update has greatly improved the user experience in Map View. Among many things, setting up planned burns to rendezvous with other crafts and doing transfer orbits to other planets has been made a lot easier. But that's not all, there are a whole lot of other bug fixes, tweaks, and improvements as well. Upgraded to Unity 2021.3.19f1. Several UX enhancements to Map View, including font changes, more readable text, and many other tweaks. Planned burn tweaks, improvements, and fixes. Closest approach info updates and bug fixes. Rebalanced and fixed various aspects of the career mode, including tweaks to contracts and tutorials. UI updates for better navigation and interaction. Improved the Crew Assignment dialog. Audio adjustments for a more immersive experience. Vizzy improvements and bug fixes. Solar panel enhancements and bug fixes. Bug fixes for modding, parts, autopilot, and more.…

- It's time for a new name - 5 January 2023
After six years of hard work and commitment, what began as a simple rocket simulator has become a sophisticated aerospace sandbox in which you can bring to life anything you can imagine - from rockets, airplanes, and cars to entire planets. Over time, the more we added, the more SimpleRockets 2 outgrew its name. With much consideration we have decided to change the name to "Juno: New Origins" - a title that symbolizes a new start. We are excited to launch version 1.0 later this month and this will be the game's official exit from Early Access on Steam. Version 1.0 will include the Career Mode update, which will be the largest update yet. We have been working on this update for over a year and we are extremely excited to share it with all of you. It is currently available for beta testing on Steam and if you want to try it out you can find instructions at the bottom of this post. We are…
- Career Mode is Now Available for Beta Testing! - 22 December 2022
Cover Image Credit: @RocketLover2333 We have been working for what feels like an eternity but is more like a year and a half on Career mode for SimpleRockets 2. We changed routes multiple times until we found something that felt like it made sense for the game. You may have already enjoyed some of the things we added as we progressed, but we had to keep a lot of stuff hidden until now, which was extremely hard! We are really proud of what we have made. You have got to believe us when we say that we wanted this to come out more than anyone. We promised long, long ago that Career mode was coming, and we are almost there. Although we did say the 1.0 update was going to come out in 2022 we did some thorough playtesting sessions both with members of the community and friends and family who had never played before and got tons of feedback. Way too much feedback maybe? But great feedback nonet…

Added support for setting the lock direction through vizzy on crafts that are loaded but not under the player's control Substantially increased the strength of the night vision camera effect BUG FIXES Fixed a bug where the cargo bay doors would not open correctly on start if their disabled rotation was set via XML. - Update 0.9.923 - The Last Dab - 14 October 2022
6 years. It's easy to forget how long that is. What was your age in 2016? What were you doing? It's been almost six and a half years since development for SR2 started, almost 5 since the birth of this website, and 4 since the closed beta. It's been a long ride, and the game has evolved a lot, looking back at the first open beta version it's hard to recognize the game. And here we are, on our last dab, the last update before 1.0, finally. Half a year ago I explained we wanted to polish the game for it to be ready to leave early access, and through 0.9.900, 0.9.910, and now 0.9.920 I feel comfortable saying we have done it. We have tried many things for the career mode (trust me when I say many), and we have found something that seems to fit the scale of the game and how it plays well, not forgetting what makes SR2 special, and making the game more entertaining to play. It isn't Star Citi…
- Update 0.9.900 - It's About Time! - 28 March 2022
New parts are probably as fun for us to create as they are for you to create with, but sometimes it makes sense to go back to the basics and re-evaluate some of the long-standing feedback that's been voiced by the community over the years. With career mode in the making, we decided it was about time to do these necessary tweaks for the game to feel as good as possible on the 1.0 release, having some time to get your feedback on all that is being added in 0.9.900. Every time I've seen crafts break because of how the tinker panel was used I couldn't stop thinking about how that could have been prevented if there were no need for the tinker panel. In this update we are making most of the parts resizable, with price and mass changing according to the dimensions of the part, and many actual benefits from the size (larger electric motors being more powerful, larger cameras having a better zoo…
