- August Dev Roundup! - 2 September 2026
Hi everyone! We've been hard at work since the latest playtest to implement your feedback, and we wanted to update you guys on how things have been coming along. Without further ado, let's get into it!Gameplay ChangesTutorialsTutorials for acquiring & unlocking parts have been added.A lot of you pointed out that the acquisition & unlock method for new parts was difficult to understand, so we hope these new tutorials can help clear out that confusion.New QuestsAnother common piece of feedback was the fact that outside of purely carnivorous species, most animals didn't have that much of a reason to interact with other species. We've been working on a slew of new quests which aim to incentivise the player to go out and interact with their neighbours, whether it's befriending them or fighting them.Banner Contest WinnerWe ran another banner contest on our Discord (which you should join, by th…
- Adapt Closest Test #2 Post Mortem - 8 July 2026
Another HUGE thank you to everyone who took part in the playtest over the weekend and provided feedback / bug reports. If you still have any additional thoughts please please do share, as I’m very eager to focus my efforts around what everyone really wants to see prioritized for the early access release! The discord channels will remain open. Key TakeawaysOverall the second playtest seems to have gone quite well. I’m happy to report that aside from a few quick fixes on Friday, stability appeared to be significantly improved from playtest #1 based on your feedback. PerformanceThere are still more improvements to performance incoming, but it seems that the population controller improvements have significantly reduced fps degradation, and I’ve seen very few reports regarding performance over the weekend.ImprovementsMore onboarding information and status feedbackMore information about Map R…

As before, you can sign up by filling in this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeqepzmtc30ImyLryH-OmkxbaObSDl6kz7LWlgVaikV1CFTAA/viewform?usp=dialogPlease note that if you have already signed up previously, you do not need to sign up again (your odds will not get any better or anything!)We plan to run this playtest in the coming weeks, so make sure you're signed up! Also, join our Discord so you can chat with the development team, as well as other playtesters. You can find the link here: https://discord.com/invite/RQX4…

- October Round-Up - 5 November 2025
Hi Adapters! The temperature is dropping – perhaps it’s a good time to evolve some fur and brace for winter. Or maybe hibernating in a cave can be nice too, but there’s no time to rest yet. After Tokyo Game Show I’ve gone through some of the feedback and pushed an update to the demo: As a bit of a follow-up I’ve also just implemented a hotfix to address some of the reported issues on the patch. If you have any feedback on the game, feel free to let us know by commenting on Steam's discussion forum or joining our Discord server.Community CreationsIt’s been a while since we last showcased the quirky monsters conjured by our players’ wild imagination. - September Round-Up - 5 October 2025
Hi Adapters!Summer is officially over, and we’re ending the season with some wonderful events. Let’s check out what Adapt was up to in September! Tokyo Game Show 2025Adapt has evolved enough to cross vast oceans, and last month we managed to swim all the way to Japan and joined our publisher Slug Disco at Tokyo Game Show 2025! It has been a busy 4 days with the venue teeming with numerous visitors. Take a look at the photos straight from the event – our players in Japan made some rather outlandish and creative life forms:You might also spot some Japanese localization in one of the shots. This is part of the event demo and I'll be working on implementing it in the official demo as well. Indie Assemble: 123 StarsIn addition, at the start of September, we had the honor of being selected by the Indie Assemble: 123 Stars. Adapt got the chance to showcase its evolution alongside a collection…
- August Round-Up! - 3 September 2025
Hi Adapters!Summer is over in the blink of an eye and early access is getting closer and closer. While I was knee-deep in data clean-up and wrestling with the code, Adapt has been making an appearance in a couple events. Here's a quick rundown on what we've been up to last month!August EventsAs an indie game made by a solo dev (yours truly), Adapt took part in Tiny Teams 2025 organized by Yogscast. This event featured a wide range of indie titles that, while created by small teams of developers, have big potential. And at the same time Adapt found itself in the Debut Festival as well, this time for the first game created by every studio. The roster is filled with games from both new devs and veterans, all with solid quality. You should definitely give it a look!Community CreationsAs always, it’s time to share some community creature designs!First up, we have a majestic creation by Lazar…
- July Round-Up 🦕 - 6 August 2025
Hello Adapters!Last month we had a beefy devlog, where I went through a myriad of features that I’ve been working on for the eventual early access. Though with all the wordy paragraphs, we also ran out of space for our usual creature showcase. Let’s catch up on all the cool creations from our Discord community in this month’s round-up!Community CreationsHere’s a collection of dinosaurs from GreenHill, who has been very active in sharing their dinosaur designs. I know the game currently doesn’t have everything you need for all the dinos, but despite that GreenHill still managed to improvise with existing tools and crafted these awesome dinos! Another submission by GreenHill. This was posted not too long after a certain movie was out. With how well-recreated this creature looks, I hope it doesn’t bring us any copyright troubles!Le_Noobs, in their own words, made this “silly guy” – a tower…
- June Round-Up - 3 July 2025
Hi everyone! It's July already-- half of 2025 really went by in the blink of an eye! It's been a while since my last devlog, so I'd like use this monthly round-up to give everyone an update on what I've working on and what you can expect to see in Adapt in the near future. Let us dive in, shall we?ProgressionI’ve been working a lot on integrating progression systems into the game in preparation for early access. This system will partially replace the current DNA reward system with a new reward selector which will let players choose from several part upgrades / unlocks, or skip a reward in order to gain some DNA instead. Players will now be able to upgrade and specialize their parts, with more upgrade slots and higher upgrade levels becoming available based on that part’s level. Parts will now be organized based on their primary use, organized by category: conflict, exploration, or social…

This original announcement trailer was first posted quite a while ago, and Adapt has been through many evolutions since then. Over time, Adapt acquired many new features with more in the works, and we can’t wait to show everyone what else will be coming next to the game! Indie Assemble From May 5 to May 11, Adapt was part of the Indie Assemble festival, organized by Excaliber. T…
