- Netflix is getting one of the best roguelites around and more next year - 12 November 2023
Hades , one of the best games from 2020, will be joining Netflix's lineup of mobile games next year, alongside a number of other titles. It's currently Netflix Geeked Week, meaning the streaming giant has been announcing all sorts of new shows - including a Witcher anime that's bringing back Doug Cockle as Geralt . But, Netflix had more than just shows up its proverbial sleeve this week, as it also announced a slate of games that would be joining its gaming side of the service across 2024. The biggest and most exciting announcement is easily Supergiant's incredible roguelite Hades, which honestly feels like one of the most fitting titles to come to Netflix so far. It's got action, romance, comedy, all the right components for a Netflix hit, so maybe this will be the one that convinces users its games are worth playing (especially considering less than 1% of subscribers actually play its…
- August PS Plus offers incredible PlayStation exclusive for all members - 26 July 2023
PlayStation Plus has a killer line-up of free games this August, available for free across all tiers of subscribers. PGA Tour 2K23, wonderful PlayStation exclusive Dreams and the excellent Death's Door will all be downloadable starting August 1. This offer stands for PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium subscribers. Once you download them, they'll remain in your library forever. However, once August is over they'll no longer be downloadable, so you'll need to redeem them quickly before they must be bought again. First up, PGA 2023 is the latest entry in a franchise of golfing games that remains popular even after all these years. It's king of its own circle, so if you've got any interest in golf whatsoever, it's well worth a download. We've not reviewed one of these in a while, but it's gone down fairly well with reviewers so it's at least worth a try. Read more
- Game Pass gets 25 million subscribers and one of the best indie games of 2021 - 18 January 2022
While we contemplate the possibilities of Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Crash Bandicoot on Game Pass, Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard isn't slowing down the subscription service. A pile of new games have just been announced for Game Pass in January, including one of the best indie games of last year. Oh, and Microsoft has just confirmed that Game Pass has reached 25 million subscribers. The indie game that I'm excited about is Death's Door , a fantastic action game from the developers of Titan Souls, which blends some Souls-influenced design tropes with a gorgeous aesthetic and Zelda-style adventuring. That'll be coming to the service this Thursday, January 20. Other surprises in today's announcement include Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. This first entry in the anime-style murder game visual novel is available on the service today. Also out today is (the previously-ann…

- Death's Door review - wonderfully honed Zelda-like with a soulful edge - 30 July 2021
I keep coming back to rhythm with games like this. Rhythm's always had a part to play in action games, where good combat is a dance, and bad a little out-of-step. It's all in the one, two, dodge, the little passive mental counter ticking over from that boss' second smash to the third, the half a beat between the third and the jump. So it is with Death's Door, a sumptuously beautiful Zelda-like about the immutable beat of time, the rhythm of life and death. Except there's something else, hard to place, that seems to give it something extra. Death's Door has something, like a flavour that maybe isn't actually a flavour, more of a sensation. Umami. What's the umami of dance? Acid Nerve's last game was Titan Souls, which came out way back in 2015. Titan Souls is one of those games that's all about simplicity - you get one arrow, you die in one hit, you have a world to explore and quite a fe…
- Bug Fixes - July 28 - 28 July 2021
Fixed bug where you could move through some Avarice doors without unlocking them. Fixed bug where leaving a ladder could give you infinite mass and also break interactions with ram platforms in grandma's basement level. Fixed bug where you would no longer gain any souls until reloading the game. Fixed exploit in final boss room. Fixed bug with ghosts not counting to an endgame counter. Added backup code for people affected by a previous bug, if you are stuck on 99.5% completion interact with the Shrine in the Camp of the Free Crows and this will be corrected. Added more checks to saving to prevent a rare save file corruption, also added crash logging here to help me find any causes if it happens to anyone. Reminder backup saves were added in the last patch in case anyone does have that issue! Game Save files can be found here: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Acid Nerve\DeathsDoor\SAVEDAT…
- Zelda-like Death's Door attracts 100,000 players in one week - 27 July 2021
Indie game Death's Door is enjoying a fine start to life. Developer Acid Nerve has revealed on Twitter that more than 100,000 players have played the eldritch Zelda-like in its first week. We got a good look at the popular indie game during E3 earlier this year, with a release date reveal during Devolver's panel and a more in-depth look during a Day of the Devs stream. There, producer David Fenn explained that while the narrative makes the game unusual, the structure and scope of the gameplay is more recognisable, matching one of the developer's "oldest inspirations", The Legend of Zelda. "Our background is in tight, 2D pixel-art action, and we've been careful to maintain the responsiveness of this," Fenn says. "The world is fully explorable and is entirely handcrafted. All of the characters and enemies you meet have memorable, twisted designs as well. Death's Door has plenty of high-oc…
- Death's Door reaches over 100,000 players in its first week - 27 July 2021
Zeldalike Death's Door has reached over 100,000 players in its first week, according to developer Acid Nerve. It's an impressive feat for the tiny corvid action-adventure, as most indie games don't attract that sort of playerbase at launch, and a game's first month is usually its best—let alone its first week... - Bug fixes - July 26 - 26 July 2021
Save files now save backups each time a successful save occurs. These are in the same folder as other saves. If anyone has issues with corrupted save files they can now use a backup by renaming them. Fixed issue in one log file in Japanese which repeated a line over and over. Final boss fight now forces save spots in the scene to stop the issue that some people had of being re-spawned at an out-of-bounds door. Added more logging around controller information. Fixed some minor spelling errors. Fixed purchasing upgrades not saving under certain conditions. Some world/collision issues fixed. If your controller is not working please get in touch and send your Player.log and Player-prev.log files to use at [email protected], files can be found here: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Acid Nerve\DeathsDoor There is also a beta branch you can try to see if that helps as we continue to test pot…
