- Beta 3 is now live on the testbranch - 23 May 2026
Hi, dungeon-crawling fans!Beta 3 is now live on the testbranch! The Land of Godon is completely playable, and you should be able to finish the Inner Sanctum questline!A few things are still missing from this patch. Female models (and books) will be added over the next few hotfixes. This is actually related to the delay of this patch. I finally fixed my workflow for NPC dialogues.I used to write all my dialogue trees in tables and adjusted scripting in-engine, because scripting referenced internal code. This made reiterating on dialogue graphs very cumbersome. Whenever I wanted to change a graph, I first had to adjust the structure (or text) in the table, transform the table(s) into the right format (I have talked about that step in an older update), reimport that format into the engine, and redo (!) the scripting on the new structure. As you can imagine, I was never too keen on refitting…
- Quick Update: Wrapping Up Beta 3 - 30 April 2026
Hi, dungeon-crawling fans!Just a quick update: I am currently wrapping up my work on Beta 3.I switched out another section of the map, but I will try to get it all done during next week. The patch will then be pushed to the test branch first. To access the test branch, pick the corresponding beta selection in your game's Steam properties (right-click on your library entry). As mentioned in the last news update, the new patch will contain various new areas. I would say out of all the areas in the game so far, these probably offer the most variety. There will be a few interesting surprises for you to find, both lore and gameplay-wise.Beta 3 will be the biggest update so far, with one major and three minor areas. Besides that content, there will also be female NPCs.Since I finally had time to write again, I added books as an alternative document type to the game. I will add more lore via the…
- Quick Update: Beta Patch 3 - 17 March 2026
Hi, dungeon-crawling fans! It's been some time, and I would like to give you this quick update on what to expect in the next content patch. I have been developing Beta 3 for a while now, and if you have been part of the closed beta, you may remember the third region of the game as the lava-filled Land of Godon.Since then, I have adjusted, separated, and complemented parts of the map, so the final patch will feature one major region, as well as three minor sub-regions:The Land of GodonAfter descending what seemed like a never-ending staircase, you finally stand before a large stone gate. You have felt the heat rising for a while now, but here in the deepest caverns of the underworld, sweat beads upon your brow. Countless enemies stood in your path, yet you overcame them all - the final stretch of your journey lies before you.As you push the gate open, a world of fire and ash unfolds befor…
- Monomyth patch EA2.5.0a is now live! - 17 December 2025
Hi, dungeon-crawling fans!Monomyth's Early Access version 2.5.0a is now live on the default branch! This is an intermediate patch. Nevertheless, there have been plenty of significant changes. Most notably, combat has been adjusted. Kicking enemies and utilizing the environment to your advantage now play a significantly larger role. Ragdolling enemies can be kicked into open fires or onto conveniently placed spike racks.Gore effects have been added as well. You will quickly find that enemies meet a much more graphic end in this version, especially if you hit them on the noggin.Another important change has been made regarding spell casting. It is now possible to cast channelling and instant spells from the offhand. Only invocations require a tome or an orb. The default offhand action key has been changed to 'C'.Known bug:If you are using an old savestate, crates and barrels will be offset…
- Patch EA2.5.0a is now live on the test branch - 17 November 2025
Hi, dungeon-crawling fans!I have just uploaded the intermediate patch EA2.5.0a to the test branch. To access the test branch:Right click Monomyth's library entry -> Properties -> Betas Under "Beta Participation", select "testing - Public testing branch"This patch introduces various QoL improvements (such as an on-screen map), adds gore effects, and overhauls the player kick.It is now possible to decapitate most enemies without head or neck protection. There is also full-body gibbing.Kicking now causes enemies to ragdoll. This also led to some changes in the encounter design. I have added (conveniently placed) spikes and open fires to the environment. These can be used during combat.Short PreviewNaturally, these additions drastically affect encounter balance, which will have to be adjusted in an ongoing manner during future patches. It was important for me to push these changes before Beta…

- Beta 2 is now live on the test Branch - 6 April 2025
Hi, dungeon-crawling fans! I just uploaded Monomyth's beta 2 patch to the test branch. Let me first apologize for how long this took! The patch should have been out for weeks by now, but a few things came up that required my immediate attention. It's an unfortunate risk with solo development. Sorry for the delay! Anyway, if you would like to try the new patch out right away, you can do so by * clicking right on your library entry for Monomyth * selecting Properties * switching to Betas and * selecting the "testing" branch in "Beta Participation" Be warned though: This build still has to be tested with default-branch save states. There are still a few issues I'll have to iron out as well. Two of the 25 sections in the mines are still inaccessible. I'll sort this out as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I won't be able to upload a new build until next Thursday. So it will still take a bit…
- Quick note about the coming update - 31 January 2025
Hi, dungeon-crawling fans! As you have probably already noticed the patch announced for January will be a little late. Unfortunately, I got bogged down in some administrative work recently, which cost me more time than I expected. Nevertheless, good progress has been made! The detail pass for the new mines is almost done and I can already say that the final performance will be significantly better than in the original version. Style-wise the new area is also a fair bit more recognizable. The flow of the level has also been improved massively, making it properly navigatable. Some things are still missing, most notably two major quests, some scripts, and the soundscape. Itemization has been planned out in detail but needs to be realized (i.e. some items still have to be placed). Here are some impressions from the environment: A shortcut maybe? The factory below the heartlands is a vast un…

Most of the new content takes place in the mines and factories below t…

As a nice side effect, the game should now occupy less disk space. A hint for respecing: The NPC for this can be found in the area of the Serpent's Bastion. Every time you resp…

Hi, dungeon-crawling fans! It was a busy month! Monomyth's first hour is packed with unobtrusive tutorial pop-ups and helpful advice. Do this to operate a lever. Press this to open my inventory. Jab this key to interact with things. Attack a locked wooden door with my weapon to smash it to smithereens. Set a locked wooden door on fire with the burning torch I'm holding in my hand... Read more.

Hi! The latest hotfix is now on the default branch. I added two more important fixes for the trading system. Here are the full patch notes: * Added pause menu * Fountains now take longer to replenish * Lowered Focus requirement for Sermon of Light * The beggar in lower Lysandria will now correctly give a key to the player * The Emerald Horn can now also be used by combining it with a barrier * NPCs starting conversations will no longer deadlock the game if the player is carrying objects, combining an item or inspecting the inventory * Quickly re-entering dialogue mode will no longer deadlock the game * Item switching will no longer give the player access to trader inventories * Traders will no longer duplicate items…
- Hotfix EA1.0.0f now on Public Testing Branch - 11 October 2024
Hi! I just uploaded the latest hotfix to the testing branch. The focus was on various dialogue/dialogue mode fixes and a pause menu. Here are the current patch notes: * Added pause menu * Fountains now take longer to replenish * Lowered Focus requirement for Sermon of Light * The beggar in lower Lysandria will now correctly give a key to the player * The Emerald Horn can now also be used by combining it with a barrier * NPCs starting conversations will no longer deadlock the game if the player is carrying objects, combining an item, or inspecting the inventory * Quickly re-entering dialogue mode will no longer deadlock the game If you have already talked to the beggar without receiving anything, you can speak to him again and you should receive the key automatically. The key itself is currently useless, but it might come in handy in a future quest. Best wishes, Michael
