- Update from the Devs - 17 October 2020
Hey, It's Hosni again. Here's an update: We've identified the memory leak issue as being a bug between our engine's video player and windows media player (which apparently only affects a portion of PCs). We've upgraded to a newer version of the engine and that seems to have fixed the memory leak issue but we're still running tests to make sure that noting else was affected. The next step is we want to widen our tests. If you believe you've been affected by this memory leak bug and are willing to help us test, please email me at [email protected] and I will set you up with a test build. If all goes well with these tests, we can have the patch live soon afterwards. Hopefully no more than a couple of days. I will continue to keep you updated and, once again, I sincerely apologize if you have been unable to play the game due to these issues. -Hosni
- Note from the Devs - 16 October 2020
Hey everyone, This is Hosni, Airplane Mode developer. I just want to thank you for buying the game, and for those of you that have been unable to run it, we again apologize and are working on getting it resolved as soon as possible. We are committed to getting it running on every supported machine, and I want to thank all the people that have sent their crash logs, it has been a real help. One important thing I want to point out is that your hardware and computer specs are not a factor. From all the reporting we’ve received, the game-breaking memory leaks are happening only on some Windows machines, irrespective of specs. However, we have identified the problem and are working on a solution. If you are experiencing the same problems cited by folks here and you are running the game on a Mac, please reach out. I will also be posting updates here regarding meaningful patch progress, in the…

Stay tuned for information, and we’ll make sure to keep this space updated as we progress. We thank you for your patience, and we’ll do everything we can to get you back in the air soon. You can hit your ‘Esc’ key to open the menu at any time, or you can access the menu from your in-game phone’s Settings app. Your phone is located in the seatback pocket, right next to the magazine. -Airplane Mode Team
- Airplane Mode is Flight Simulator for passengers - 15 October 2020
When Airplane Mode was announced, it seemed a fun joke: sit in a virtual aeroplane seat for the full duration of a simulated flight, trying to entertain yourself by watching films, eating plane food, reading the in-flight magazine, staring out the window, and all that. Upon its launch today, it’s something else too, a weird virtual memory of a journey that’s now wholly out of the question. Context, eh? I am just sorry it’s not arrived under its original name, Flight Simulator, though I can imagine why that might’ve needed to be changed. (more…)
- Enjoy a 6-hour flight in real-time with economy class sim Airplane Mode from tomorrow - 14 October 2020
Airplane Mode, the sim that lets you recreate the sky-high thrills and spills (or rather, the relentless, soul-splintering monotony) of a six-hour economy class flight in first-person and in real-time, launches tomorrow, 15th October, on PC and Mac. Airplane Mode, developed Hosni Auji and Bacronym Games and published by AMC, is inspired by Penn and Teller's infamous monotony simulator Desert Bus, but switches that game's wonky wheel and Arizona sprawl for more familiar tedium among the clouds. Passengers will have a choice of two flights - a six hour run between JFK and Reykjavik, or a somewhat brisker two-and-a-half-hour journey from JFK to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada - and, once they've safely boarded their plane, they're free to pass the time however they please. - Airplane Mode will put you in the passenger seat of someone else's Flight Sim - 25 August 2020
Right now, a lotta folks are getting their travel fix from Microsoft Flight Simulator . But for most of us, travel isn’t about getting behind the controls of an elegant, gravity-defying machine – rather, we’re squeezing what little comfort we can from a metal tube packed with noisy strangers and posture-wrecking chairs. Enter Airplane Mode , developer Hosni Auji’s upcoming attempt to trap you in economy class for a full six hours. (more…)
- Economy class passenger sim Airplane Mode brings sky-high monotony to PC this autumn - 24 August 2020
Airplane Mode, the sim that lets you lives the highs and lows (but mainly lows) of a six-hour economy class flight in first-person and in real-time, will land on PC and Mac this autumn. Announced last November, Airplane Mode, developed by Hosni Auji and published by AMC, is inspired by Penn and Teller's infamous monotony simulator Desert Bus, in which players are tasked with driving a slightly defective bus for eight straight hours in real-time along a single strip of road between Arizona and Nevada. Airplane Mode, however, focusses its attention on one of life's slightly more familiar monotonies, challenging players to keep themselves amused on a long-haul flight - including taxi, take-off, and landing - from the relative comfort of an economy class window seat.
