I have been thinking about Go Outside Simulator recently, I'm pleased people enjoy the joke and (oddly enough) still play it. I have learned a lot since I first made this, and Ive been working on some VR therapy oriented things (which was the original goal of GOS next to the whole joke thing). Go Outside Simulator is a fun little thing, I don't want to go through and update every map and make them look better, I would like to keep it as a time capsule of my first "real" game, both the good and bad. But I have been feeling a desire to come back to Go Outside Simulator in some way as I continue to work on other projects. I can't give a timeline or definitive on anything right now, but there is movement again in the Go Outside Simulator universe. The dust has been blown off the machinery, and the lights are back on. Things are still early, in the mean time check out my other games on steam…
- 1.0 - 17 May 2024
I will admit I have been neglecting this one, working on other things and the like. Anyway I am now moving it out of early access with this new update. Fixed errors in Forest day Fixed errors in Forest night Redid Desert Added new level – Minefield Added new Level – Retro Fixed textures in many places Fixed pause menu Started adding more secret levels Modified audio Fixed a few invisible walls I will continue to add more things to it, such as more secret levels that can only be accessed by finding them in the main levels. Easter eggs, and probably more full levels in the future. This is an older project, it does not look great. But it's fun to pick away at when I have the time, and I kept the new levels within the visual look of older levels (simple-ish textures, no complex shaders). I had thought about completely re-making the levels with newer stuff and better visuals, but that would…
- Next update - 15 December 2023
It has been a long time, and I know this is just a joke of a game. But I am still working on it. I've been working on a couple new game projects that are actual real games (as well as other work because money is required to live). However I do plan on finishing up the next big update real soon. I will also be moving the game out of early access as there isn't much else I can do with it beyond make new maps. Which is what I plan on doing. It will be out of early access but i'll continue to make new content for it because it's a fun chill game to work on. So yeah this isn't an abandon game, life just got in the way but it's still very much on my to do list. My next game will also have online multiplayer, if I can figure that out i'll see about eventually making the multiplayer "go outside together" update.
- New update - 4 November 2022
Interactivity and mortality are now being implemented. Please be safe outside.
- Update 0.6 No longer indestructible. - 4 November 2022
New update, it feels small, but it's a lot of groundwork for the next update. One thing that has been added is interactivity. I've finally started adding the ability to interact with things in different ways. It's very basic right now but more stuff will be added. One thing this adds is new secrets to find in each environment. Easter eggs may not always be passive anymore. However be warned, as the title suggests the outdoors are a bit more dangerous. The ability to die is now present. No lives or health bars, so your exploration can still be calm and relaxing. But if you die your walk in that environment ends. So go out and explore, find new things, look for secrets. More secrets, more interactivity, and more amusing ways to end your walks will be added. Also I'm still trying to figure out multiplayer, I have not given up on that. Change log: Added death Interactivity overhaul Added fi…
- Coming up - 16 October 2022
It has been some time. Life gets in the way and all that. Anyway I am working on a new update still. it adds a couple new features and i'm thinking of overhauling a couple of the older maps. Joke game or not I still work on it when I can.
- Next update incoming - 31 March 2022
Although I don't always have time for this game I am always picking away at it and thinking of new ways to improve it. To that end the next update will have some improvements and a new gameplay feature that will enhance the outside experience. No spoilers but it will be a simple yet amusing addition. Also I've been learning about implementing multiplayer in a new project I've been working on, and if it works I will also be implementing multiplayer in Go Outside Simulator. There are lots of Easter eggs to find on every map, with more planned to be added. A friend or 2 might make finding them easier and/or funner. Finally I still have no plans to increase the price so continue to enjoy the outdoors for only $0.99 USD while also helping me fund this and future projects. Everyone who has taken the time to play this is the real MVP and I thank you.

Removed environment (O’Neill Cylinder) Added new environment (Island) Added object to Moon Texture modifications Fixed glitch in Forest night Removed Agoraphobia mode Added sunglasses Audio edit to Desert Asset change in Desert Bug fixes The next update will be bigger and will add more stuff, including improvements. Will not take a year to do I promise.
- New environments - 22 September 2021
Alright I know development of this is spotty at best, but I do work on it when I have the time. Going to work on a small update to remove the cylinder level and add in one I thought about yesterday. But i'll also do some fixes and such. As well as start on new more in depth environments. I also still plan on the Forest day overhaul I've been talking about for...2 years. It will happen eventually. Also i'm going to look into adding online multiplayer at some point because people have asked for it and I honestly find the idea very funny. But for right this moment i'll try to get the small update pushed before the weekend that will add a new environment and remove the cylinder. If I can get it working in the future it will be added back in but right now it's going away. I'm going to do another small environment as I have only 1 and I want to balance out the level select a bit. Onward and u…
- About the new environment in the latest update - 27 February 2021
Ok I pushed an update for the first time in a year. It's mostly just small fixes and improvements. I also tossed in the new map I've been working on. It's horrifically broken. Play it as you can because i'm probably removing it in the next update and will not put it back in until it's not horrifically broken. Like if you play that map, then go to the main menu and play another map, the controller in that map will be broken and gravity will screw up. It's actually kind of funny so have fun playing with that. Restarting the game fixes it and everything else works as well as it did before. So just be warned you will need to restart the game after you leave the cylinder if you want to play other maps. So yeah, it's in temporarily, I will be pulling it with the next update and it will not return until it is no longer making me cry.
- 0.5.1 update - 27 February 2021
Long over due update, but the project is alive again. Patch notes Added new experimental environment (O'Neill cylinder) Graphics update to Arctic Small graphics update to Deep Ocean Lighting improvements in Desert Small optimization changes in Forest day Small optimization changes in Forest Night Small optimization changes to Forest winter Small behaviour change to monster Small graphic update to Mars Small graphic update to Moon Lighting improvement in Backyard
- Not dead. - 10 January 2021
Well 2020 sucked I had very little time to work on this as I needed to do stuff to like...survive. Anyway Although GOS is a dumb meme game it's not dead, Ive been working on some more content for it. a new environment that was meant to be just cool and fun has been giving me a ton of issues with the scripting and making everything play nice together. It will be in the next update but it will likely be very very broken at first as I have no idea how to fix a few major issues yet. But that’s not stopped me before. I also did get a VR headset Early 2020 from revenue I made off GOS and started learning how to make VR content. But again I had to back burner game dev stuff for months which sucked. However things are looking better already and I can work on this stuff again. I also have a VR planetarium I made quickly as a test and it turned out pretty good, I’ll see about releasing that as a…
- New year new updates - 15 January 2020
Assuming there are people who still have this in their game library and find it interesting, Things are progressing. Ive been stuck on something for the last few months, and busy with other things in life. But I pushed through and got past the holdup. So the next update is underway. I’m going to try and fix a bunch of things, add some stuff, and push it out of early access. I do plan on re doing the forest day level because ive never really liked how it turned out. I may do so for the 1.0 update or I might do so later when I can afford better tools to do so. Regardless when it comes out of early access I will continue pushing updates for it as this project is still very much a practice project where I experiment with things in Unity level design and scripting. I also enjoy hiding jokes and references in the levels because my dry sense of humor cannot and will not be stopped. To that end…
- Next Update - 1 August 2019
I know very few people actually care about this project but I am still working on it. I’m actually very surprised and pleased to see how well it has gone considering its 50% joke and 50% learning experience. All that being said the next update will be a big one and will likely push it out of early access. Although it will be out of early access I will continue to work on it as time goes on. Right now I’ve been in pre development of my next project which will be a real game and not just a basic looking joke. However I won’t start to work on that in Unity until GOS is out of early access. The next update will polish some functions, fix problems, add more set dressing and will include a new and rather strange environment. I have tons of ideas for new environments and places to build and as I generally improve I will update the game. Even if I’m working on other projects and am far removed…
- v0.5 - 24 May 2019
The 0.5 update is now here. It's a few weeks late due to a crash and corruption situation of one of the new environments when I was first building it. Was a set back but in the end everything worked out. I'm already working on the next update, it won't be as big but it will add a new and very strange environment that i'm excited to add and I think people will enjoy. If not enjoy find very cool and topical to recent events. More on that later. 0.5 Changelog: Added new Environment (Maze) Added new Environment (Mars) Added new level type (Challenges) Added light effects to Forest Day Added light effects to Forest Winter Added light effects to Desert Added light effects to Backyard Additions to main menu Adjusted ball in Backyard Texture pass to Forest Day Texture pass for Forest winter Adjusted player character in Forest Day Adjusted player character in Forest winter Adjusted player charac…
- Early Access - 29 March 2019
A development update. Originally GOS was scheduled to leave Early access in April, Now since the game is a simple environmental simulator and not very complex this goal may still be achieved if I can get enough done before then. However it’s looking more likely that it will remain in early access for a bit longer. Even after it leaves early access updates improvements and additions will continue be added as I work on it in my spare time. But before it leaves early access there are a number of features I want to have in place that are not yet in the game. Thank you all who have supported GOS. I don’t pretend it’s some kind of big, interesting or well-made game, or even a game honestly. But the skills and concepts I’m learning through its development are helping other projects and moving me closer to my goal of using environmental simulation to help people in education and mental health.…

- Development update - 24 January 2019
It's been a little while since the last update, This was mostly because the computer in which it was being worked on needed to get it's graphics card replaced so it has been out of commission for the last few weeks. Computer is back and development can continue. However it's not perfectly smooth sailing. After updating to the most recent version of Unity a few things broke and are in the process of being fixed. Nothing was lost or anything, just updating stuff and fixing broken scrips. The pause menu was one casualty, I may fix it or just scrap it and implement a better less garbage one (which I’ve been planning to do anyway) so we will see how that pans out. Anyway all that aside development will pick back up and updates can be expected in the near future. In my computers down time I’ve been looking into procedural generation for another project I want to work on in the future. The bes…

Happy Holidays everyone. The 0.4 update is now live, with it comes a host of additions and fixes.
