- Smoky Sails Announcement - 20 July 2026
Hey folks! As you might know, Omno changed my life in ways I could never have expected. After finishing it, I began working on Kibu as my next larger project. Kibu is still very much a work in progress (currently on hold), but for a long time I was trying to make it fill the enormous footprint Omno had left behind. It couldn’t - and eventually I realized that perhaps it never should have had to.The growing scope, expectations (at least in my head), and constant feature creep slowly took the joy out of making it. At some point, I found myself dangerously close to losing my way creatively. Smoky Sails began as a break from all of that. And, in a way, as a small form of 'creative therapy'.I wanted to make something compact, playful, and deliberately uncomplicated. A project where I could simply shake out ideas without constantly wondering whether everything was ambitious or meaningful enough…
- First full Kibu gameplay reveal, and update on development - 24 July 2025
Hi Omno fans! It’s hard to believe it’s already been two years since I last posted here, when I first introduced my new project, Kibu, to the world. Time really flies! For quite a while, Kibu leaned heavily into survival and crafting systems like inventory management, building, and collecting. I even had a demo nearly ready to share late last year. But while testing a first demo, I had a wake-up moment. The game had become a checklist of needs to manage like hunger, tiredness, resource grinding, etc. and had drifted far from the core of what I wanted Kibu to be: a beautiful, immersive experience. Instead of enjoying the magical exploration and interactions with spirits, I realized players (including myself) were spending more time juggling stats than soaking in the atmosphere or connecting with the world. So I took a step back. I stripped away the survival mechanics and refocused Kibu on…

Hey everyone! The big day is finally here - I just unveiled my new game, Kibu(!), to the world! In case you aren’t watching the Wholesome Direct showcase (that’s still happening right now - go watch it if not - soooo many great games!) then here’s the reveal teaser trailer: I am so, so excited, terrified, anxious and thrilled to finally have it out in the world - just making this announcement feels like such a big weight off my shoulders! I’d love to know your thoughts and feelings about the trailer and the idea behind Kibu - the things you’re excited about (as well as anything you’re less keen on - all feedback is good feedback! Some of you have been supporters of my work for years now since the early Omno days, and you’ll know how much I value your feedback and support already! If you’re keen to get involved in the Kibu community and see more behind-the-scenes stuff, maybe head over t…

- Omno is OUT NOW! - 29 July 2021
Wow, I still can’t quite believe I’m writing these words, but my very first game Omno is now available right here on Steam! Check out the all-new launch trailer I made to mark the occasion: It’s been a long, hard journey to get to this point - 5 years of working away on this thing on my own - and I’m feeling a crazy mix of emotions now it’s finally out in the world. Actually hitting the big green “Release” button to launch the game on Steam is probably one of the scariest things I’ve ever had to do! I really hope that all of you people who have been following the game so far come and join me in the next step of the journey - I can’t wait to see what everyone thinks of the game! Your support and interest in Omno has really helped get to where I am now, so hopefully you’ll have half as much fun playing it as I’ve had making it. Big love, -Jonas
- One week until launch! - 23 July 2021
Hello Steam friends, It feels a bit surreal writing this: Omno is launching in ONE week! :D I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone who came along on the development journey that started 5 years ago. Without the help of the Kickstarter backers and the encouraging words and feedback from all the community members, friends and followers over the years the game would have not been possible! With that, I just wanted to leave a little gameplay clip of Omno with you. Wishing you a good week and I’ll see you next Thursday (29th July) for launch day! :) Much love, Jonas
- Omno releases July 29, has a magic staff that turns into a hoverboard - 8 July 2021
Omno has been in development for several years but, most remarkably of all given its lush visuals and seeming scale, it is the work of one man. Jonas Manke is the whole staff of StudioInkyfox, though he has a decade of industry experience on titles such as State of Decay, and began work on the project around five years ago, before a successful Kickstarter in 2018 allowed him to focus more fully on realising the game. Now it has a new trailer and release date, and Omno will be available on July 29... Read more.

- Omno is launching on 29th July! - 7 July 2021
Hello Steam friends, I know I’m a little late on the monthly update this time around, but it’s for a VERY good reason. Today, I’m absolutely delighted to be able to announce to you that Omno will be launching 29th July! Check out this short little teaser trailer I made for the announcement: I’m going to keep this month’s update brief, since there’s still plenty of bits and pieces I need to finish off in the game before launch. I mostly just wanted to say thanks for all your support, for your wishlists and follows here on Steam (that really are a huge deal for small indies like me), and that hopefully you’ll join the adventure when Omno launches on the 29th! -Jonas
- Steam Next Fest - 16 June 2021
Hey hey, friendly followers! Just a quick note that Omno is in this summer’s Steam Next Fest, happening RIGHT NOW! For those of you who have tried out the Omno: Prologue, or the demo at any point in the past year, the Next Fest demo is essentially the same, so there won’t be anything new to see here. With the launch JUST around the corner now, I’m 100% focused on finishing the game and didn’t have time to prepare a completely new demo, but I thought it would still be nice to let brand new players find Omno and try it for the first time as part of the Fest! Big love to you all, and I’ll be in touch very soon with more details about the launch. -Jonas
- May Kickstarter Update - 3 June 2021
Hello Steam friends, June has arrived, things are finally starting to warm up, and Omno is heading ever closer to launch, so it’s time for a quick update! I’m really in the thick of things development-wise now, so will keep things a little shorter this month so I can get back to dev work! :D BETA! The closed beta test for all of you alpha & beta-level backers is almost upon us! I’m just a few days away from finalising everything on my side, so keep an eye on your emails and the Discord for details of how to access the beta - news will be coming very soon! The beta will be the first time an essentially feature complete version of Omno will be released into the wild, so I’m crazy excited/terrified about it all! As with the Alpha tests, I’ve set up a feedback system for you all to give me your thoughts (more on that in the invitation), so I’ll be really looking forward to seeing what you t…
- April Kickstarter Update - 11 May 2021
Hello Steam friends, April is over, so it’s time for another update! With everything getting close to the finish line now I wanted to focus on all of the things I’ve been working on over the past few weeks. Localisation! A big thing for me is making Omno available to as many people as possible, so with the help of my co-publishers Future Friends Games, I’ve been working with a couple of great localisation agencies to translate the game into as many languages as we could. So at launch Omno will be fully playable in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese-Brazil, Russian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese (traditional and simplified)! It feels so crazy suddenly seeing Omno in languages other than German or English (as I work in both of those languages myself during development), but it’s a GREAT feeling and makes me very proud. Here’s a look at the game in Japanese, which I think wo…
- March Kickstarter Update - 6 April 2021
Hello Steam friends :) Here is your monthly recap on what's been happening since the last update. New Trailer: It's been over two years since the last Omno trailer, so here is something new for you. 2ND ALPHA! A few weeks back I launched the second Alpha test, and I’ve been getting lots more great feedback from you Alpha backers, so thank you so much to all of you who have taken part! It’s really helping me tighten things up as I work towards delivering the Beta, which will hopefully not be too far off - I should have news about that as part of next month’s backer update at the end of April. What am I working on next? So as mentioned earlier, I’m getting things together in preparation for the beta, and finalising the last major parts of the game, with a big focus on the story and the cutscenes! Localisation work will soon be underway once-storied things are finalised, then we’ll mostly…

- February Kickstarter Update - 2 March 2021
Hey Steam fans, How is it March already?! With another month in the rearview mirror, it’s time for another update on all things Omno! February has been a super productive month for the game, which has felt really great. The feedback from the first alpha has given me so much energy, especially now it’s starting to feel like the finish line is insight, and I’ve been making really good progress on my “to do” list. As well as all the development progress, there’s lots of business stuff happening on the side, now things are starting to get serious and close to the end! I’ve also been working away on a brand new trailer for the game - the first in about 2 years! - which has been great, as it allows me to take a “step back” and really look at the game as a whole and the progress I’ve made in the time since I last put a trailer together. I’ve also been working very closely with the porting comp…
- January 2021 Kickstarter Update - 11 February 2021
Hey Steam fans, We’re already a good way into the second month 2021 - hope you’ve all managed to get back into the swing of things and are managing to keep some of your new year’s resolutions in these strange times we’re living in! January was a pretty huge month for me and Omno - I finally launched the Closed Alpha for Kickstarter backers! I’ve been working away on Omno solo for such a long time now, hidden away from the world in my little dark cave, where it’s very easy for the doubts to start creeping in. I’ve really just had no idea if Omno was shaping up to be the game that people have been expecting, which is a really scary thought when you’re so far into development. Putting the Alpha out there, and getting so much positive feedback from the Alpha backers, has really lifted a HUGE weight off my shoulders, and given me so much renewed motivation. So, what are my thoughts from the…
