- Haxity... Afterlife! - 24 September 2021
Afterlife! All good things do not always come to an end. This is now true for Haxity. We found a way to keep on having the PvP portion of the game alive. We simply felt bad about turning off the (expensive) live servers for Haxity, as that would have meant the end of the game, and the unique PvP experience. After all, fighting with other players is what the game is all about, and this is also what the game excels at. So then, for you and any future players who love the game, we decided to invest some weeks of coding. Why? How? Well, we’re really glad to say that PvP will still be on. We have swapped out the codebase, making it into a Peer to Peer system (P2P) through Steam. Auto matchmaking will no longer be possible, but PvP gameplay will be, but then through the Steam friend invites. Out of all the solutions we could have made, we felt this was the best we could do for the players. An…

- Haxity goes FREE Now! - 16 February 2021

- Haxity goes 100% Free on February 15th - 13 January 2021
This is a big thing! We are making ‘Haxity” entirely FREE, taking effect from February 15th. While we have received lots of positive feedback on the game, with a range of voices calling it the best deck-builder they have ever played, we have sadly not succeeded in making ‘Haxity’ a commercial success. At least not yet. Being an indie game developer is inherently about managing risks. It is difficult to make a commercially successful game, while penetrating the “jungle of attention”. We knew we were taking risks when we decided to make a new type of PvP card game. The deck-builder genre hadn’t even had its major breakthrough when we started developing Haxity. That kind of risk. We also knew we were taking a risk when we made the game a fair “premium” game, vs. making it all free. That our final year of development and hype stretch ended up in the middle of a global pandemic was an added…

- DevTapas #07 - 6 November 2020
This week we have continued working towards improving the Ranked System to deliver the best competitive experience for Haxity players. An important part of this is showing players correctly their progress. In today’s #DevTapas we will share more details about the Ranked System Badges. Badges Badges Badges When we created the ranked system, we decided to use badges to visualize your rank. Each tier has a custom design where we try to combine established tier names like “silver” and “gold” with a unique Haxity twist, and our artist Zooey really nailed this unholy marriage! How the system works: We have 5 tiers. We have 4 divisions per tier. Each division requires 100 rank points to go to the next division. You gain approximately 25 points per game won, depending on matchmaking differences… Losing a game multiplies this by a factor, that starts at 0 at the lowest tier, and goes up to almos…
- DevTapas #06 - 30 October 2020
Last week we participated in the Steam Digital Tabletop Fest, and hosted various events for the community. We had a developer live stream, Steam discounts, and many streamers were enjoying the game. We rounded it all off with a tournament with our community. It was an incredible experience that has also given us a lot of useful feedback from our players. Today, we wanted to talk about some of the things we have learned, and how we are planning to improve Haxity in the future. Drafts and timers We saw some streamers and players were struggling a bit with the duration and visibility of the timers in online ranked play, and are looking into various ways to improve this. We are working on improving timer feedback, in drafts, shops, and while fighting. This should fix the issue where players were not aware they were timing out. In addition, we will test speeding up the initial draft, by putt…

- DevTapas #04 - 9 October 2020
It is always a great experience to watch people play #Haxity, since it gives insight into how other people interact with the game, and what we need to improve. The streamer event one week ago was no exception! Among the issues that were brought up, was the amount of hacks you get before the first fight. This doesn’t seem to be an issue for more experienced players, so we will keep an eye on this and see if we can make some adjustments to accommodate new players. We are currently in the process of improving the user experience design. During the stream, we observed that Jeff Hoogland was timing out while drafting. We are discussing a couple of fixes for this: We need to improve the visualization of how much time you have left, and make sure you get a clear audiovisual cue when you are running out of time. In addition, we will look at exactly how much time people get during the draft step…
