As some of you may have noticed, the discount program has been causing issues. Due to the nature of how digital store discounts now work, no single discount can be separated and they all stack. This has made Hard Reset Redux unpurchaseable for anyone who was eligible for the loyalty discount on numerous occasions in the past, which has led to some confusion. We have strived to fix these issues whenever they have reared their head. Unfortunately for these types of custom discounts, we cannot make any corrections or adjustments ourselves, as it requires a manual override on the distribution partner’s end and falls outside of the standard distribution agreement. The cyber-FPS remake Hard Reset Redux is out today, and naturally there's a launch trailer, which is every bit as goofy as, but slightly more narratively cohesive than, the game itself. But there are also concerns kicking around (hey, Reddit) that the new version is actually a downgrade of the original, with lower-quality textures, fewer anti-aliasing options, and missing effects. In response to the complaints, developer Flying Wild Hog has issued a statement explaining two of the main changes we made to the game's appearance, and why we made them. Hard Reset Redux , the hi-def do-over of Flying Wild Hog's debut FPS that was announced back in January, now has a proper release date of June 3. The system requirements are out as well, and publisher Gambitious has posted a 15-minute Bang Bang Boom gameplay trailer that highlights some of the changes. I’ve been pretty surprised by, and pleased with, how nicely Polish studio Flying Wild Hog’s revive-o-rebooting of 3D Realms’ vintage FPS has gone well. I like Hard Reset, the 2011 FPS from Flying Wild Hog, and the first two sentences of our review explains why: Bezoar isn't a city. It's an explosion with streets. It's a silly game, with an inexplicable dedication to an utterly incomprehensible story—I know what it's about, but I'm still not entirely sure what actually happened—and, as we said in the review, the gameplay slides into a wash, rinse, repeat exercise in repetition in fairly short order. But by gosh, the stuff in it blows up real good, and sometimes that's enough. All of which leaves me happy to say that an updated version of the game, called Hard Reset Redux, is now in the works. It's being built on the latest version of the Roadhog engine (which is also being used for Shadow Warrior 2 ) and will include all of the content in the original Hard Reset as well as the Exile expansion. In a post- re-Rise-of-the-Triad world, any franchise reboot is possible. Case in point: Shadow Warrior . The original was a ninja-themed first-person shooter sliced and diced from Duke Nukem 3D ‘s cloth – Build engine, unrepentantly offensive humor, and all – but it didn’t exactly have legions of lovers banging down doors for its long-overdue return. At least, not that I’m aware of. Maybe I should’ve looked in more shadows. Regardless, it’s coming back, and Hard Reset developer Flying Wild Hog’s hefting the weighty, blood-rusted katana of responsibility. (more…)

I’d be lying if I said the art of Hard Reset was the most striking thing about it – I’d be more inclined to go with ‘shooting lots and lots of robots with nice lighting effects.’ Nonetheless, it’s jolly nice of devs Flying Wild Hog to offer up a free, 137MB PDF artbook, whose 46 heavily-illustrated pages contain concept art, environments, characters and all sorts. There’s some dramatic stuff there, suggesting a distinctive world made of bits of City 17, Blade Runner and Rapture.
