- Save Counter-Strike from disappearing forever in this surreal multiplayer game - 18 July 2019
What year will the last Dust2 server go offline? Who will be the last human being to rush B? Dustnet is a new multiplayer game that ponders the demise of seemingly immortal games like Counter-Strike. Set inside the last running instance of its most popular map, de_dust2, the experimental project is a 16-player sandbox that explores the impermanence of multiplayer servers and the communities it takes to sustain them.  In a time when even recently-released games like The Walking Dead, P.T., and SOS can disappear suddenly and forever as a result of studio closures, licensing expiry, or other issues, and a time when fan creations and pirate servers spring up to memorialize them, the ideas explored in Dustnet feel essential.  "I wanted to imagine the death of a well known and loved space," one of Dustnet's creators, SCRNPRNT's Neilson Koerner-Safrata, tells me. "There has…
- Dustnet is a strange and wonderful dream of the last de_dust2 server - 18 July 2019
Were Plato alive today, he’d declare a sixth platonic solid: de_dust2, representing the sixth element of devotion. This sacred configuration of geometry escaped its confinement in Counter-Strike and for eighteen years the map has lived in the hearts of men, re-emerging in dreams, in other games with level editors, and in mashed potato sculptures carved at the dinner table. But in the far future, the last remaining copy of de_dust2 is maintained inside Dustnet , a multiplayer sandbox building self-aware deathmatch museum… thing? It’s out now, I’ve played a bit, I adore it, and I’m excited to figure out exactly what it is. (more…)

- DUSTNET is a PC vs VR vs AR vision of the last dying de_dust2 server - 10 July 2019
While I believe that Counter-Strike will outlive the heat death of the universe, DUSTNET by SCRNPRNT paints a more entropic picture. In this multi-platform (regular PC, VR and augmented reality) multiplayer experiment, several strange breeds of player fight over the final de_dust2 server. The soldiers have long since devolved into abstract skeletons, and the textures have been washed from the now-wireframe world, but Counter-Strike must still go on, even if nobody has seen a bomb in decades. The game launches on July 16th. Below, a trailer that almost makes sense. (more…)
