When you're on the Join screen, simply hit the Y button to enable teams. They'll be based on color of the players so you can easily stick together in a match. Team sizes can be any amounts from 1 to 7 players per team. As you can see below there's 4 teams: Red vs Green vs Blue vs Teal.
