Up until now however, they didn't actually have any effect in the game. With today's patch, each trait is now associated with 2 story genres. One in a positive way, and one in a negative way. To see the personality traits of existing reporters, go to Reporter Management, select a reporter and look in the sidebar on the right. The traits also appear on the Reporter Card when you mouse over candidates on the Map. If you assign a story of that genre to a reporter with the matching trait, a bonus or penalty will be applied to its final Importance score.
