- Very sad news: we are closing down - 8 May 2021
Hi everyone. Mark here with very sad news today that I am no longer able to sustain operations financially and must close down my business. As a result, SALVAGE will soon be removed from the Steam store and will no longer be available for sale anywhere. If you already own a copy of SALVAGE, it will of course continue to be available and playable in your Steam library. While SALVAGE will now never be finished, which makes me incredibly sad, I take some small comfort in the knowledge that it plays pretty well for an alpha-state game, and all three possible storylines within the game are playable end-to-end (albeit with some annoying bugs that will now persist). Given that, I hope you are reasonably satisfied with your US$4.99 purchase, but it is of course entirely reasonable and I will understand if you want to request a refund. If so, please do so via the standard Steam process. I sincer…
- Developer Update - 17 July 2020
Hi everyone! Mark here with a quick note about today's update. When I started working on SALVAGE, I decided pretty early that I wanted it to be a real challenge. One of the ways I decided to achieve that was by not including a Save feature, so that players would never be able to save-scum. Having had the advantage of reading some players' thoughts and chatting with a couple of you, I've come to realize I was perhaps being....over-zealous...about the challenge thing. So I have spent a good bit of this week implementing a Save feature. ːsteamhappyː In my personal testing, the Save feature is working pretty well, but I will be keeping a keen eye on the Steam Discussion forums, so let me know if you have any difficulties with it. Thanks for playing SALVAGE! — Mark
- Developer Update - 13 July 2020
Hi everyone! Thought I'd write a quick update to let you know what I'm working on. ːsteamhappyː From feedback received, it seems that some players would like a save system, so they can leave a game and return to it later. While I was initially concerned about save-scumming (which is a pet-hate of mine, particularly when you're talking about a horror game), after a bit of thinking, I've decided I can probably implement a good half-way solution of the "rogue-lite" variety. To that end, I'm working on implementing an automatic save system, so that if you quit the game (or if it were to crash), you save can be restored; but if your character dies, the save dies with them. The other thing I've been working on is improving the Steam integration, to set up longer-term development objectives, like Achievements and Leaderboards. I hope you're all enjoying SALVAGE, and of course I hope you'll kee…
- Improvements to Inventory shortcut binding and new options - 1 July 2020
I have kept a keen eye on the Discussion forums for your feedback since launch, and I have been extremely heartened by your kind words about SALVAGE and your support for what the game is trying to achieve. Some have even taken time out of their busy lives to chat with me about what is good and what needs improving—thank you again for your time! While the overall reaction to SALVAGE is quite positive, some areas have been highlighted as needing improvement or an alternative approach. With the most recent updates, I have focused on improving useability by adding an option to invert the Y-axis for players who prefer that an option to remove the crosshair dot for greater immersion, and (today's update) automatically binding a found weapon to the 1 key on pick-up I hope these updates further increase your enjoyment of SALVAGE. If you have any thoughts or opinions to share about these recent…
- First minor update! - 20 June 2020
Hi everyone! So SALVAGE recently got its very first review, and it was Negative because the player found that, when the flashlight battery ran out, he couldn't see anything, which made the game unplayable for him. I have thought about this for a bit and decided he's probably right—I think I had gone a bit too far into the "make it hard to survive if you run out of batteries" aspect. So I've relented and adjusted the background lighting so as to make the game far more playable (and survivable) if you do run out of batteries. It's still a great idea to NOT run out of batteries—and so searching the facility and finding MORE batteries is still a really, really good idea—but at least now if and when you do run out of batteries, you can still continue the game with a good chance of finding your next battery. If you have any thoughts or opinions to share about this or any other aspects of SALV…
