- v1.2.2 - The Modifiers Update is available on the Testing Branch - 13 June 2022
v1.2.2 - Game Modifiers Changelog The Game Modifiers feature has been rolled out to our Testing branch! Rather than waiting for all of v1.2 to be completed (along with its entire features list), I'm switching to releasing features as they're ready for wider-scale testing. Once all features for v1.2 are in the Testing branch and any issues have been ironed out, v1.2 will move to the Main branch. New Feature: Game Modifiers: 27 unique modifiers that change the game's underlying systems and values. Looking to spice up the challenge, or maybe make things a bit easier? Now you can! New baked-in logging solution: Prioritizes user anonymity, creates and manages log files and log file rollover. This new logger stores its output in the game's install directory at the following location: ./Nominal/GameLogs. Various bug fixes Bug Fixes Fixed ultrawide monitor support missing in the in-game Escape…
- March Dev Update: Feature Highlight: Game Modifiers - 1 March 2022
v1.2.2 Nominal Classic, Feature Highlight: Game Modifiers As we enter March, I want to give everyone a glimpse into what has been in the works for v1.2.2 since the last update/announcement on February 7. Despite some much-needed vacation time, a lot has been completed or, at the very least, planned out. This announcement will primarily go into detail about the upcoming Game Modifiers feature, but includes some other fun bits of information. Without further delay... Update on the Status of the Update As soon as the Optimization Update (v1.2.1) was pushed to the Testing Branch on Steam, work on v1.2.2 - Nominal Classic began. I hit the ground running on all of the planned features (see the roadmap in the previous announcement/storage page/the Offworld Systems website), and I also planned out a few more quality of life features that aren't on the roadmap for design/aesthetics's sake. A hug…
- Nominal v1.2.1.1 - Hotfix - 22 February 2022
Nominal v1.2.1.1 - Hotfix This is a quick hotfix for various bugs and issues that are present in v1.2.1b. Note: some of these bugs may exist in earlier versions of the game, but are only addressed for v1.2.1.X and higher (currently available on the Testing Branch in Steam) Changelog - Bug Fixes Fixed a major bug in the round ending logic that was causing the Results/Game Over screen to never show and leaving the player staring into the void of space Fixed a bug in the audio logic causing the Effects Volume to be quieter than intended regardless of the value set in the Options Menu (this could give the impression that there is no audio at all once loaded into a game, even with the default value of 50) Fixed a bug in the Options Menu causing the Apply button and the 'Changes will not be saved' warning to always be visible, even if changes hadn't been made Fixed a bug in the Options Menu c…
- Nominal v1.2.1b - The Code Optimization Update - is LIVE on the Testing Branch - 7 February 2022
Nominal v.1.2.1b - The Code Optimization Update is Live on the Testing Branch This has easily been Nominal's biggest update yet. Not necessarily in terms of content additions, but in terms of scope and effort. With v1.2.1b, roughly 95% of the original codebase has been completely rewritten to achieve better performance, stability, and maintainability. Each and every script was brought up to modern C# programming standards and patterns. A lot of unused scripts and methods (artifacts from beta and alpha testing) have been removed, reducing the game's overall footprint (code-wise at least). As Nominal has essentially been rewritten from the ground up, I've done thorough Quality Assurance testing, but I still am putting this update onto the Testing Branch, just to be sure nothing escaped my singular pair of eyes. That said, with v1.2.1b taking over the Testing Branch, v1.2.0b (The Code Refa…
- v1.2.0.1b Hotfix - 10 December 2021
Changelog: + Fix missing editor reference rendering the Back button in the Mode Select menu to be inoperable.
- Nominal v1.2.0b Is Live on new Testing Branch - 10 December 2021
v1.2.0b Changelog: Refactor, clean, standardize, and organize all existing code to match C# development standards Fixed bugs with the Steam API handling that caused null reference errors if the player was not actively logged into Steam Fixed a bug causing null reference errors when dying to a High Temperature Hazard and the achievements controller trying to unlock an achievement that doesn't exist. Accessing the New Testing Branch: As v1.2.0b is very experimental, I've completed thorough quality assurance on my side to ensure that everything works just as it did (if not better) before the codebase refactor. That said, humans are fallible so there may be bugs or unintended issues here or there. Because of this, v1.2.0b has been set to Live for all players but only on a new Testing branch on the Steam backend. There is no password for this branch, so you can update to v1.2.0b by following…
- Nominal Reenters Active Development. - 1 December 2021
Nominal Reenters Active Development: Hello, commanders! After about six months of being on a Range Safety Hold, I am happy to announce that Nominal is back under active development. While my last post in May was very serious and sad to have to write, at that point I really did need to step away from Nominal. It was my first game. I learned a lot of hard lessons. And, I was trying to figure out how to keep making games as a career. There were just so many unknowns, and while I have a background as a full-stack developer for enterprise systems, I just didn't have the gamedev skills necessary to do justice to Nominal. So, I set out to try other concepts, learning and improving my skills as I went. And I did learn. A lot. And all of that learning led me back to where I started: Nominal. So, if you're up to it, keep on reading to see what all I learned, what I have planned for Nominal, and h…
- Nominal v1.1.6 - Small Update - 22 November 2021
In an effort to better connect players, I've added a call-to-action to join the Nominal Discord server on the Main Menu for players who are looking to connect with others and play the game. Add CTA for Main Menu Discord button
- Letter from the Developer - 20 July 2021
First, I give my sincerest thanks and appreciation to everyone who has given Nominal a chance. You all have helped immensely with your feedback, bug reports, requests, suggestions, and more. I really can't understate my thanks. Nominal is the very first game that I've developed, so this entire experience has taught me so, so much: how to manage social media, how to get everything set up on Steam's backend, how to moderate a community, how to support a product, and so on and so forth. I'm incredibly grateful for Nominal, what it's taught me, what it's done for me, and for this little community that it has brought together. All this said, I have to get to the tough part of this message. Things have been quiet, because on top of real life matters (like moving and taking care of my mental health), I have been trying to figure out how to best proceed, not just for Nominal, but also Offworld…
- Nominal v1.1.5 - Ship Computer and UX improvements - 20 April 2021
Nominal v1.1.5 TLDR Changelog Reduced ENTR key redundancy. Pressing the Prog, Verb, or Noun key will immediately put the computer into input mode, removing the need to press enter twice; e.g. Press PROG, Press ENTR, Enter value, Press ENTR can now be done as follows: Press PROG, Enter value, Press ENTR. Shorthand for '00' (Prog, Verb, Noun) and '0000' has been implemented; when the input field reads '--' or '----', the ENTR key can be pressed to immediately set the active field value to 0. Added new NOUN to the ANNUNCIATOR computer PROG: 'Signmode,' this allows players to enter a sign number and get the mode the sign is currently using (OFF, ON, Mode 1, Mode 2, Mode 3) Added a new option to the Options Menu: Zoom FOV. This option will allow players to adjust how zoomed in the camera gets when using the zoom mouse button (lower Zoom FOV values = more intense zoom) Ship Manual has been up…
- Nominal V1.1.4 - Ship Computer Update - 5 April 2021
A Landmark Moment for Nominal Our first Community Feature Election was held way back in February (which feels like forever!). The community decided that, of all the candidates, the next major feature the game should have is a fully-functioning ship computer. With the release of v1.1.4, we're not only adding a huge element to Nominal's gameplay, but we're also hitting a huge landmark: our first Community Feature Election Candidate that has been implemented! So, I give all of my thanks to our budding community for your input and support in getting this update out! New Gameplay Aspect: the Human-Ship Interface (HSI) With v1.1.4, the Offworld Systems Human-Ship Interface computer (HSI) has been added to the cockpit of the quirky Odyssey spacecraft. Players can now interact with existing systems in new ways, opening up more avenues to troubleshoot failures and problems . . . and also maybe a…
- Nominal v1.1.3 - Hotfixes, cockpit updates, and versioning schema change - 8 March 2021
Changelog Added a new Failure Selection drop-down menu to the Mode Select menu for Normal Mode (this should make achievement hunting, or practicing specific failures, much easier! The ship computer from the first Community Feature Election has been added to Normal Mode and Simulator Mode, with a helpful sticky note labeled 'INOP,' to allow players to get used to the re-arranged panels and components in the meantime Lowered camera POV in Normal Mode to make the player feel more 'seated' in the craft and give a better perspective of controls Backend tweaks, fixes, and optimizations Regarding the version number: previous version was 1.0.1.2. The initial version schema was overly ambitious and had an extra needless field (the above '0'). This has been simplified to X.Y.Z. From now on: X = Major version/overhauls/game-changing expansions Y = Major update/feature release Z = Hotfix version
- v1.0.1.2 Hotifx - Patch Notes - 22 February 2021
Nominal v1.0.1.2 Hotfix Changelog Fixed a bug preventing Hazard and Failure-related achievements from occurring at the same time Fixed a bug with the MFD Hazard TTL resetting prior to fading out on game over Update round failure redundancy checking to also prevent failures with similar procedures (but not necessarily the same system) from being chosen back-to-back
- Hotfixes - Nominal v1.0.1.1 - 18 February 2021
Some quick hotfixes for some higher-priority issues recently uncovered. Changelog Bus Failures/Overloads: Added logic to allow the non-failed Bus indicator to come on only if the offending bus has been isolated per procedures Steam Achievements: Fixed issue causing achievements to only be able to unlock on the first round of gameplay if the 'Play Again' button was clicked Mission Reports: Fixed various typos/mismatches
- Community Feature Election #1 - 18 February 2021
Community Feature Election #1 With Nominal v1.0.1.0 out, that means it's time to determine the next *big* step for the game! This heralds the first (of hopefully many) of what I'm calling 'Community Feature Elections' (pardon me, if this phrase has been used elsewhere and I've missed it)! What are Community Feature Elections? These are an opportunity for Nominal players to voice their opinion on which, or in which order, features are added to the game. They will be held on the Nominal Official Discord server and on the Steam Community Hub for Nominal. How does this work? Each Community Feature Election will feature 3 candidate features. They will be posted as a part of the announcement (see following messages). Players can only vote for *ONE* candidate per election. If you are viewing this on Discord, to vote for your desired feature simply add a reaction emoji to the picture in the pos…
- Nominal v1.0.1.0 - Add Steam Achievements - 17 February 2021
Nominal v1.0.1.0 - Add Steam Achievements TLDR Changelog: Implemented Steam API, enabling Steam Overlay functionality Added 41 Steam Achievements to unlock in-game (some are hidden :)) Lots of backend code optimization & cleanup Details: Version 1.0.1.0 is Nominal's first non-hotfix update. So, yay! With this version, a lot of the backend code has been cleaned up, which will make it easier to maintain and expand in the future, and optimized, which will make the whole thing run smoother :). This version adds 41 Steam Achievements to unlock through gameplay. As this is my first game released on Steam (let alone ever), these weren't in-game at launch, as I figured there would be a much smoother way to get them implemented post-launch. Unfortunately, Steam makes achievements public (even if they're set to Hidden) so testing them and tweaking them is a public affair. Some of you may have not…
- Patch Notes - Nominal v1.0.0.8 Hotfix & Ship Manual Revision 1.0.10 - 11 February 2021
Patch Notes for Nominal v1.0.0.8 Hotfix & Ship Manual Revision 1.0.10 Nominal v1.0.0.8 - The Mode Select menu has been updated so that the desired mode can be selected by just clicking on its 'card' rather than just the checkbox - Minor backend optimizations - Removed some deprecated code Ship Manual Revision 1.0.10 - Removed a blank page after Section - Fix procedures in - Fix procedures in :"Debug/Reboot Mode"
- Ship Manual Revision 1.0.9 - 10 February 2021
TLDR Patch Notes - Ship Manual, Revision 1.0.9 Added disclaimer regarding 'engage LAUNCH ABORT MANUAL' instructions to section Details I have received feedback from multiple people expressing confusion regarding the manual's references to 'engage LAUNCH ABORT MANUAL' in some procedures/instructions. I wanted to take this opportunity to do two things: (1) address why this was done, and (2) update the manual to be more clear regarding these references. Essentially, where the LAUNCH ABORT MANUAL is referenced is the manual's way of saying that "maybe this isn't the right place you're looking for." Because the manual is as much an instruction guide as it is an in-universe lore piece, keeping those references in there was done intentionally to make the manual feel real and read realistically. To remedy this confusion, as of this morning the Ship Manual has been updated to include a disclaime…
- Tiny Hotfix - v1.0.0.7 - 9 February 2021
Nominal v1.0.0.7 - Tiny hotfix Update player preferences logic to default 'Invert Y-Axis' to ON when the game is ran for the first time
- Welcome to Nominal! - 9 February 2021
Welcome to Nominal! On behalf of Offworld Systems LLC, I am ecstatic to have Nominal released and live on Steam! I wanted to come to the community hub on launch day to initialize communication with our players. For starters, thank you for being an early player of Nominal! This is the result of a life goal being actualized, and it's been a crazy adventure to get to this point. You being here means more than I can put into words. So, welcome to Nominal on launch day! Things are going to only get better from here! As I see it, a huge part of being able to make Nominal fun for players and interesting in the long term is establishing a healthy line of communication with its community. As an independent developer, I want to stress that I'm here to make Nominal an awesome experience, not just a cash grab, and I'm going to support, develop, and expand it as long as it's feasible for me to do so…
