- Version 1.0.6c - 8 September 2026
Dead Investigators IssueIf you lost some investigators, and then started a new game, some of them were remaining dead, instead or resetting to being alive after restart. Once I became aware of the issue, it was pretty easy to fix. Now starting a new game after completing a run will reset all the investigators as intended. Thank you to the player who pointed this out!
- Version 1.0.6b - 6 November 2025
Rolodex IssueIt turns out (no pun intended) that the only way to sort through your Rolodex was to use the mouse scroll wheel, with no on-screen indication of how to do this. I have added two additional buttons to the rolodex screen, so you can also click those to sort through team members. You can now see "Prior Page" and "Next Page" right there on the screen so new players don't have to guess at what to do here...
- Version 1.0.6a - 27 August 2025
Hidden MouseThe mouse pointer was being hidden when the window was not in focus. I didn't consider the confusion this might cause. Now when the game window loses focus (i.e. if you have clicked into a different application or folder on the desktop) the Windows mouse pointer should remain visible over the game window.
- Version 1.0.6 - 27 August 2025
Mouse SpeedThis new update attempts to match the mouse speed in the game to the mouse speed of your Windows mouse. Since the game is scaled up, it tended to move much faster than your normal Windows mouse would behave. Now it scales the speed of the mouse based on the scale of the game window.Mouse Locking - No Longer RequiredThis version also does away with the annoying feature where your mouse would get locked into the game window. You no longer have to press "escape" to release the mouse, it just automatically transitions from the window to your desktop, like a normal* program. The reason this was ever a thing is as mentioned earlier, the game window gets scaled, so the mouse position would get messed up and confusing when entering and leaving the game window. I managed to use some coding trickery to make it appear that the mouse was smoothly transitioning between game window and des…
- Version 1.0.5 - 13 June 2025
"High Resolution"This update allows the game to run at a higher screen size. Aberration Analyst now supports 1920 x 1080 resolution. Note: It does not actually increase the resolution of the game, it just stretches the game window to a larger size. Also, it does not work with "full screen" mode yet, but in window mode you can press F11 a few times to get up to 1920 x 1080. Options PanelChanging the screen size now only works when you have the options panel open. This is because it only saves the game's settings when you click "okay" in the options panel, so I wanted to make sure any changes you make are preserved between playthroughs.
- Version 1.0.4 - 25 April 2025
Sorry everyone, somehow I stopped getting Steam notifications on the discussion forum. I think it's back on, but I will also make a point to check in more often to make sure I see what's going on. I was able to fix the two latest bug reports. 1. Full Screen mouse support was glitched, and would not allow you access to the whole screen. It should be working properly now. 2. Text was weird looking over a certain resolution amount. My monitor does not support the higher resolutions required to reproduce this bug, so I cannot actually test it. I believe this is fixed now, but if it's still happening let me know. I also added a little menu that asks for confirmation when exiting the game.
- Version 1.0.2 - 12 January 2025
I have updated the User Interface a bit to be a little less confusing. In window mode, the border has been removed. You can still move the window around by clicking and dragging the mouse anywhere on the start menu. Also the mouse will now be locked into the game window until the player presses "esc" from the main menu. You can get back into the window by simply left clicking into the game window. I hope this makes the game more playable and easier to get into.
- Version 1.0.1 - 10 January 2025
Somehow the game's music volume was not being lowered when using the slider in the options panel. This has been addressed, but may require further outside testing. Let me know if it is working for you. Thanks!
- Computer No Longer Available! - 21 July 2024
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the game's computer will no longer be available to players.
- Max Framerate Added - 24 June 2024
I have added a maximum framerate of 60 fps to the game. This is displayed in the options menu. You can change it but you will have to open the "config.cfg" file manually to do that. If it is set at less than 0 it will default to 60 fps. There is no maximum technically, but the framerate max will be limited by your hardware.
- Game Released! - 5 June 2024
Aberration Analyst has been released! It is ready to play and enjoy (if you like this sort of thing). I wanted to make it known that the game's creepy soundtrack was brought to you by Immorpher, who's work can be found on his Bandcamp page. Now go out there and mitigate those aberrations!
- Demo Updated to Version 0.3.6 - 17 April 2024
Lines When hunting down aberrations it's important to keep a clean, comprehensible map. And that means you need to be able to add arbitrary lines and symbols, to make sure each piece of evidence is represented at a glance. Now you can add lines between cities, to make sure you remember which events may be connected with others. Of course monsters don't always behave in an orderly manner, so you may get a bit of overlap, but that's half the fun! There is no need to actually use this feature. I have included it as an option for players who want to make their maps more readable, but I admit if misused, it may have the opposite effect. It is up to the player and their approach to the game.
- Demo Updated to Version 0.3.5 - 15 April 2024
A few changes that will effect how players gather evidence... With the last update I introduced "sightseers" in the tabloids. In these cases, it was not an incident that occurred in the city itself, but someone in that city was out on vacation when they encountered the "thing." So in these cases, the tabloid gave some evidence as to the location of the city in question. However, this has now been changed. Sight-Seers and City Specific Evidence The tabloids of this type are now very general, talking about a person on a drive or visiting friends, with no information about the city being visited. However, if you are able to send a team to interview the holiday goer, and it turns out to be a real headline, the specifics will now appear in the report and be shown under "evidence" instead of "tabloid" in the city folder. It adds a bit more complexity to the game, and also changes how some abe…
- New Update 0.3.4 - 13 April 2024
You won't find any obvious new content here but much has been changed under the hood so to speak. Patterns & Lore There are now different patterns for each aberration type, and a bunch of new lore to help you identify them. Danger! Sending teams on investigations is also a bit more dangerous now (as it was in the original demo) to keep things more interesting and challenging. New Tabloids I have also included a brand new tabloid generation type so expect to follow a different kind of story that should help you narrow down the locations you seek. Retry On completing a session, you may now still exit the game, or you have the option of returning to the main menu and trying again.
- New Update 0.3.2 - 6 April 2024
Gameplay Loop is (more or less) Complete I've completed the core gameplay loop. Now instead of picking a general or specialized team, you will have to go to the rolodex and select 5 team members from a list. This is where you can choose to include a specialist or not. Training In the current, standard game, you will start with one of each specialist type in your roster of team members. However, it's possible through carelessness, to lose one of these people during a mission, and you will have to train a new specialist to take their place. In the rolodex interface, you will see a training button that will allow you to do this. However, you have to think strategically, as it can take up to 3 days to train someone in a new specialty. Colors I am working on tweaking the colors. It is no longer black and green only, but a light green and a darker green to make things a little less stark to l…
- The Rolodex Feature - 3 April 2024
I finally figured out (thanks to some fantastic player feedback) how to utilize the Rolodex in a meaningful way. I have added names and information about each team member. You now have to choose which team members to send. The specialists will also appear hear, and they will be limited to one per type of aberration per day. So if you send a vampire specialist and he gets killed by a Wendigo, you will have to wait until the next day to send another one... Currently using the mouse wheel to scroll up and down through the cards ... I will also probably add navigation buttons of some kind. GREEN If you notice, the green color has been modified from the previous build (see in the store page screenshots) and it is a bit softer to look at and hopefully easier on people's eyes. I'm not 100% settled on the color, but I think it is getting closer. CYCLOPEAN I made a small dungeon crawler for the…
- Work on Aberration Analyst Continues - 27 February 2024
I had put this game on hold for two reasons. First, I was inspired to make my Middle Eastern themed Dungeon Crawler "Islands of the Caliph" which was released in September of last year. Second, because I could not think of any interesting ways to finish this game. Well after finishing Islands, I started thinking about Aberration Analyst a bit. It occurred to me that most of what I wanted the game to do was already there and working. It just needed to be rounded out with some additional features, and polished up a bit. So I made a list of things to add or improve upon and I am making good progress on it. Tabloids: So far I have made some major changes to how the tabloids operate. They still fulfill the same basic purpose. However, instead of getting a list of headlines on one page, I have a different "newspaper" for each headline that the player will have to sort through. They will still…
- Game Demo Available - 12 December 2022
I have added the game's demo to the store page. Somehow I thought that would happen automatically, but apparently not. The game is still on hold for now. But please feel free to share any thoughts or feedback based on the demo. The demo actually represents the whole game idea. I took it as far as I could, but don't believe it really feels like a complete game at this time. I may come back to it some day, but I am having trouble seeing how to build on what's here...
- Game Postponed Indefinitely - 16 March 2022
Unfortunately, not a lot has been happening with Aberration Analyst recently. The game essentially does what I had set out for it to do, but it did not evoke the kind of response I had hoped, and has not really found much of an audience. As a solo developer this is the first time I have allowed a game of mine to linger for so long. I've heard about this happening, but I am surprised it has happened here. I have been pretty good in the past about finishing my projects. But without any good ideas on how to improve it, and very little time to work on it currently, I have to face the reality that it will not be finished any time soon. I have thought of a few possible options for what to do with it. 1. Release it as-is for free. This would be the easiest option for me. I do not think of it as a finished game though, and I would hate to just allow it to remain in an incomplete state. 2. Remov…
- Brief Tutorial Added! - 4 October 2021
After getting some great feedback on the demo, I have updated it to include a brief, but extremely important tutorial. The game will start with the tutorial visible, just press the TAB key to toggle. This describes the basic method a player can use to track down monsters, and should get you familiar with the game's concept and main mechanics.
