- The Two of Us Rebuild - 10 July 2025
Hello Everyone! Thought it might be a good idea to make an announcement... I have officially begun with the rebuild of The Two of Us. The purpose of this rebuild primarily is to clean up and fix the latency issues that were present in the current game. But along with this I will be looking to add some QoL changes into the game to make it a more enjoyable experience. I don't have specific dates in mind yet for when this update will be complete, however I will ensure to keep everyone updated on my progress. The easiest way to stay up to date is to join my discord here. As a secondary update and likely a more controversial one, I will be creating new levels/content to be added to the game. This new content will be attached to a DLC for the game that will likely cost $1USD. I explain this choice a bit more in the attached video. If you don't want to watch the video I will give a high level…
- 6 Month Update - 27 February 2025
Hey Everyone! Just giving a 6-month update on what I spoke about in this post. Today I have officially released my first game after setting out on this new mission. It is called Cafe Haven feel free to check it out here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3376510/Cafe_Haven/ Just as paying the bills is the priority for me (obviously), I will be working on 1 more premium game (~6 months) and when that game has shipped I will then be setting my sights on rebuilding The Two of Us. If you would like to stay in the loop about what I am up to and the progress of whatever I am working on please come and join my discord: https://discord.gg/Zv9YvwYSRs I hope everyone has been going well and I look forward to speaking with you all again soon! - Cafe Haven - 6 February 2025
Hey Everyone! Just a follow-up post to the one I made in September last year. I have been hard at work creating my new game called Cafe Haven. It is a Cafe Management/Tycoon game where your goal is to reach a 5 star rating. This is the first game releasing since I've moved into indie development full-time and I am super excited (and nervous) for how it'll all go! If you are interested in these sorts of games it would mean the world to me if you could add the game to your wishlist! If you wish to do so, or just wanted to check out the game, the storefront can be checked out below. I am hoping to release the game at the end of February, all the content has been built and I am now in the process of polishing and bug fixing. I will likely also make a post through here when the game is released! I'd also like to once again share my discord server for my Indie Studio, I would love to grow a c…
- An Update.. - 2 September 2024
Hey Everyone! I would firstly like to apologise, I had very bold plans laid out in the 2023 and Beyond... post about rebuilding and updating this game. Which has never happened, so I apologise for that. Also for the lack of updates just on the developer side of things. As mentioned in that post, I was working full-time as a game designer which took up pretty much all of my time. As the year went on I found myself pretty burnt out and when I wasn't at work I wanted to stay away from the computer. This meant the rebuild or any other personal projects would never get worked on. However now, I have made the difficult decision to resign from my current position and pursue indie development. So what does this mean? Obviously my immediate priority is to try and generate revenue (The Two of Us will always remain a free game). So I will be working on a new project in the mean time which will be…
- 2023 and Beyond... - 31 December 2022
Hey Everyone! I didn’t think I would be posting again so soon but I had a think about the previous post and received some messages from people that would love to see the game updated again. So, this is a follow up post to that. The Two of Us for me is a passion project, it’s free (by choice) but that said the amount of time development can take up in my day-to-day operations is quite low because of that. I do work full time as a Game Designer already so that’s most of my week is already taken up. But I am going to be committing to updating this game. So, what exactly is this going to look like? I am going to break it down into 3 Phases. Phase 1 This is the rebuild phase, for me this is the daunting time consuming but very necessary phase. I will be pretty much rebuilding the game from scratch to try and remove as many of the bugs we have all encountered as possible and tidying up the ba…
- Missing Stage 2 Level - 31 December 2022
Hey Everyone! It turns out that I was missing one of the levels from stage 2. This was a level that was seen in the Speedrunning branch of the game but the live game never actually got the fix which enabled this level. I have just pushed an update that adds this level back into the game.
- A Year In Review - 31 December 2022
Hey Everyone! The Two of Us has now been out for just over a year and I thought I would make a post to thank you all! We have had 435,218 unique players play the game and we still are still sitting at 87% positive reviews. It really warms my heart to see that so many people have played my game and enjoyed the experience. For anyone that has followed the game from the beginning, you would know this originally started as a University project that I decided to just chuck onto Steam for the sake of it. After seeing it do well I decided to continue development on it and release stage 2 of the game. As you could probably see from previous blog posts, a speedrunning community was created with this game and I got to see some really interesting bugs that were in my game and some very clever uses of game mechanics. This game actually led to me landing a Game Development job which has been awesome…
- Version 2.0 Speedrunning - 29 January 2022
Hey everyone, I hope you have all enjoyed v2.0. Thank you all very much for all the love and feedback I have received. Today I am releasing the Version 2.0 Speedrunning branch of the game. I promised this branch to the speedrunning community so that they can continue using the strategies that created from the first stage (bugs present in v1.3.2). The only exception to this is that I have not reverted the way weapon walls work (it works properly now and cant be glitched). To opt into this beta branch, Right Click on The Two of Us in your library --> select Properties --> Betas --> and type the following code "stage2speedrun". For anyone who is interested in speedrunning The Two of Us. There is now an official Speedrun.com page: https://www.speedrun.com/the_two_of_us Thank you everyone for your continued support of The Two of Us. -Ethan

- Update on Version 2.0 - 9 January 2022
Hello Everyone! Like always I want to thank everyone who has played The Two of Us and has supported the game so far. A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I would be working on some more levels for the game. I'm currently 80% through this process and it is looking promising so far. The purpose of this announcement today is that I am looking to recruit some beta testers in a week or so to test out the content to make sure I don't release with as many bugs as we saw in the first release. If you wish to take part in this beta testing please send an email to my address: [email protected] with the subject title "Beta Test Request". I will be looking to provide access to only a small number of people as I want majority of players to have a fresh experience when it is launched. Thank you Ethan
- Patch 1.3.2 - 29 December 2021
Hey everyone, I've just pushed an update which has some QoL improvements (mainly UI elements that were missing in certain levels). I've also properly added the version number to the build. With this update today I am releasing v1.3.2 of the game which I'll call Stage One's final patch. I am going to be getting started on Stage Two of the game and won't be as active when it comes to patching bugs in Stage One. I will still patch game breaking bugs that prevent people from playing but my focus is on new levels. To the small Speed Running community that are currently getting really quick times, game breaking bugs such as the super jump (macro) and skipping through the sword door and possible the straight wall jump will be getting patched after v1.3.2. To help with the transition I am opening up a 'beta' branch of the game which will be permanently on version 1.3.2, all bugs that currently…
- Bugfix #4 - 28 December 2021
Hey guys just pushed an update which finally fixes the Speedrun achievement! Started work now on more levels, stay tuned! - Ethan
- Bugfix #3 - 26 December 2021
Once again thank you all for your continued support. I'm pushing an update today which will have the following changes: - FPS Toggle Some users mentioned that they were unable to join friends due to a sync problem between a high frame rate player and a low framerate player. By default now, the game will be run at 60FPS to try and eliminate those issues at a baseline. If you were able to play on previous versions, there is a toggle in the in-game menu (Pressing Escape) to toggle the FPS which will bring you up to 300fps. -Additional Collider Polygons With additional colliders in place, hopefully we will see less players getting stuck in walls or the ground. If this bug still does occur please let me know. -Controls Display On the landing page now, there is a button to open up instructions for the controls to the game (mouse + keyboard). This only tells you the basic controls of what the…
- Bugfix #2 - 23 December 2021
First of all, I would like to thank everyone who has played The Two of Us so far (all 22 thousand of you :) ). I appreciate all the positive feedback I've been given so far about the game and thank you to all the people that have brought up bugs they have encountered! I've just pushed an update which will fix the bug people have been experiencing with achievements not awarding correctly. This will mean people will be properly awarded their achievements as intended (including the secret achievements). Going forward I will try my best to address certain bugs as they come up the following is the list of bugs I am yet to fix but am aware of: - Latency Issues - Players getting stuck in walls (for now the quick fix is the host just restarting the current level) - Players unable to see their friends in the Join Game UI - Second player disappearing when the game starts Over the Christmas break…
- Bugfix # 1 - 19 December 2021
I've just pushed an update to the game as users have been experiencing a collision bug where the players feet are stuck below the ground slightly inhibiting their ability to jump. This update should fix the issue, however if the issue still persists for anyone please contact me about it. -Ethan
- The Two of Us Release - 18 December 2021
Although intended release date was the 23rd, as a birthday present to myself today, I have decided to release The Two of Us early! This game has multiple puzzle levels and NOW has Steam Achievements implemented. I do not know what the future will hold for this game. I may add additional levels if that's what is wanted! I do hope you enjoy my game :)
- The Two of Us Devlog #1 - 19 November 2021
With my decision to release the game on Steam I have been compiling some changes to make the game before the release. The first change was optimising the joining/hosting of games allowing for local play. In early prototypes I had this set as default but had this taken out for Steam Play. I've now figured out the functionality to allow for both and this will be present on release. The second thing I wanted to add was something to make it more specific to Steam. I will be adding Steam Achievements which can be obtained throughout gameplay. To make use off all the features of this, the game will be getting track of certain stats while you play for lifetime achievements. There will only be session specific achievements, as well as hidden achievements. Once I have the achievements code figured out and roughly implemented, I will be adding additional levels to the game also. While the game is…
