• After more than a decade, Fallout 3 GOTY no longer needs Games for Windows Live on PC - 13 October 2021

  Remember Games for Windows Live? It's a name I've not heard for a long time, but something which was still plaguing Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition on PC until just this week. Games for Windows Live was Microsoft's much-hated first attempt at getting Xbox Live-style features on PC, stuffed in a launcher that no one wanted to use, and initially for a $50/year subscription. After launching back in 2007, many PC games at the time were coded to require GFWL - including Fallout 3 GOTY - although most have since been updated to no longer need it. Read more

  Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition has been updated and no longer installs Games for Windows Live dependencies. If Fallout 3 was previously installed on Steam, we suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the title. The title no longer requires Games for Windows Live and will now launch.   Fallout 3, which will be 10 years old this year (good grief!), is being remade using the Fallout 4 engine for the Capital Wasteland project. It's making good progress judging by a new video, which shows the player meeting the Brotherhood of Steel paladins at Tenleytown Station and going on to take down a Super Mutant Behemoth. It doesn't quite have the crumbly atmosphere of the original game but it looks undeniably more up to date. • New Fallout project teased by Fallout 3 voice actor - 9 January 2013

  A new Fallout thing is happening. Erik Todd Dellums, voice of Three Dog from Fallout 3 (pictured) recently proclaimed that "there may be more of the Dog coming!" While noting the cruelty of the tease, he added that he was "given permission to release that tease," whatever that means. As OXM pointed out, the actor also retweeted the following fan response: "I know you can't say but I can state the obvious.. either 3 Dog in the fallout sequel or 3 dog in Fallout Movie." The former seems more likely than the latter, if you ask us. If Fallout 4 is impending, it would make good on producer Todd Howard's goal of seeing a new entry in the franchise " before 2018 ."

• Fallout: New Vegas strategy guide is bigger than War and Peace - 15 October 2010

  At more than half a million words long, the strategy guide for Fallout: New Vegas will be the biggest ever released, and will dwarf famously giant literary classics like War and Peace. It's also roughly the same size as the script for one of designer Chris Avellone's previous games, Planescape: Torment. Trufax, and more of which below. The hefty tome will list every enemy in the game, detailing where they can be found and what they carry, and give the player more information on the many factions that inhabit the new wasteland. The guide also painstakingly maps over two hundred locations in the world, and lists every item in the game.
