  • Patch Notes: 1.1 - 22 September 2026

Beating Chapter 4 now rolls the credits, the Abyss stops pretending it has a floor, and Heroes Suck now runs natively on Linux. Here's what's new. New Clearing Chapter 4 now rolls the credits. Finish its last stage and they play over the main menu art, title theme and all, with a Skip button if you'd rather get straight to your rewards. A short thank-you follows, then it's back to the dungeon. It happens once per save. The Abyss no longer stops at five floors. Clear the deepest one you've reached and the next one opens up, on and on. Heroes get a level stronger for a long stretch before topping out, but there's no bottom to how deep you can go. Added a leaderboard screen for the Abyss. Open it from the Challenge screen to see the top 100, the players ranked around you, or just your friends, with every row showing depth, lives kept, clear time and score, and your own run highlighted. Her…

  • Patch Notes: 1.0.5 - 18 September 2026

A small hotfix, shipped between dungeon shifts. New Added a one-time Steam review prompt after Chapter 2. Rout Kaelviir's second act and the next time you're back in town, we'll ask, kindly and just the once, whether you'd leave an honest review on Steam. It's just one dev running this whole dungeon, so it genuinely helps. No loot bribes, no pressure, just an honest ask. On the horizon The Abyss will keep going past floor five in 1.1. No more hard stop once you hit the bottom, just deeper, meaner, and increasingly rude, for as long as you can hold the line. A whole slew of UX improvements is coming too. Nothing to announce yet, just a lot of small friction getting quietly trapped and disposed of. Regards, Kalradia

  • 1.1: Endless mode and leaderboards are coming - 17 September 2026

I wanted to let you all know Heroes Suck is going live-service. The game as it stands today is just the beginning. First up, 1.1: endless challenge stages, a leaderboard where you can battle for the #1 spot, and exclusive Discord roles for whoever climbs it. That's the start. I'm working behind the scenes on more content and on improving what's already here. Most of it will be free. I'm not ruling out paid DLC, but nothing's planned right now. I don't have this all mapped out. I'm treading new ground with this game, so I'm rolling with it and adjusting as I go. You've shown me you enjoy what's here, and I want to keep giving you more of it. If you've been enjoying the game, a review means a lot right now. It's what puts Heroes Suck in front of new players. Thank you for being part of this community. Seeing you all play the game, and hearing what you think of it, is what motivates me mor…

  • Patch Notes: 1.0.4 - 17 September 2026

A window to read patch notes like this one, plus a couple of fixes worth knowing about. New Added a Patch Notes window to the main menu. Read up on past updates any time, and get a one-time notice the first time you launch after a new version drops, like a herald riding into town with the week's news, minus the horse. Bug fixes Fixed percentage values showing as an empty box for players whose system language is set to French, Arabic, Persian, Norwegian or one of several others. Shop discounts, the Hard Mode tooltip and the settings sliders all read correctly now, whatever language your machine is set to. Fixed the Town Hall's final upgrade being impossible to afford. Only four Cheese Wheels existed in the entire game against its cost of five, so no amount of dungeon-crawling could ever max it out. Market Crash in Chapter 3 now awards the fifth. If you'd already cleared Market Crash, you…

  • Patch Notes: 1.0.3 - 16 September 2026

A small balance and quality-of-life patch. Balance Reduced the Wall Crusher's cooldown from 8 seconds to 7 seconds, with its final upgrade tier rebalanced to match. Gameplay Hard Mode now unlocks after completing the Prologue. New players get a smoother introduction before taking it on, since finishing the Prologue opens up a lot more of Heroes Suck at once, Hard Mode included. The toggle stays visible with a tooltip explaining why until then. Bug fixes Fixed area powers like Aero Blast hitting a smaller radius than their cast circle showed. Heroes standing near the edge of the displayed radius could dodge the effect even though they looked like they were inside it. The hit area now matches the circle you see on the ground. Regards, Kalradia

  • Patch Notes: 1.0.2 - 15 September 2026

A small hotfix for a couple of Wall Crusher issues found right after launch. Bug fixes Fixed a Wall Crusher on the edge of the dungeon preventing stages from starting. A Wall Crusher pushing toward an outer row or column made the Battle button do nothing for both story and challenge stages. Stages now start normally, and those Wall Crushers work as usual. Fixed the Wall Crusher's wall passing straight through heroes. Heroes caught by a Wall Crusher now take damage and get knocked back as intended. Regards, Kalradia

  • Heroes Suck: Out now! - 15 September 2026

It's finally here! It has been an arduous 3 years and 5 months of development. I am very happy to announce that Heroes Suck is available for purchase. I want to say: Thank you To everyone that has been with me throughout this process: whether you are someone that offered me advice, a friend, family, a demo/beta player that gave feedback (or even just told me how much you were looking forward to the game) - each and every one of you know what you've done to help me and I'm very grateful. There's a lot more to come from Dawning Light in the future, so be sure to follow my company page(s) if you like what I'm building. Newsletter: https://dawninglight.gg/newsletter/ For now, I hope you enjoy Heroes Suck. I poured a lot into it, and even endured a very long burnout period. It's finally out, and I'm looking forward to hearing your reviews of the game. I'm listening and ready to improve! Warm…

  • Patch Notes: 1.0.1 - 11 September 2026

A quick update ahead of the September 15th launch. No new content this time, just some fixes and an audio pass. Bug fixes Fixed several town NPCs slowly drifting from their spot during long play sessions. Kaelviir, Remi, Hilda, Logan, and Mayor Perceval could inch away from where they belong the longer you stayed in the world. They now stay put. Fixed the town interface sometimes disappearing after leaving a building. Exiting somewhere like the Storehouse right after entering could rarely leave the town UI gone. Raised the character limit on the in-game feedback form from 1,000 to 2,000. Room for longer bug reports and suggestions. Content Renamed the Chapter 4 stages. Audio Added hover sounds to: traps, ability selection, and town building buttons. Added dedicated sounds for entering the Shop, Scriptorium, Town Hall, and Storehouse. Each building now has its own sound instead of a gene…

Heroes Suck 1.0 is coming September 15th Thanks for playing the demo and the beta! The full game launches on Steam on September 15th at 11:00 AM ET. Chapters 3 and 4, the ending, and the rest of the campaign are all on the way. Your existing demo and beta saves carry over, so nothing you've built gets left behind. In the meantime, here's everything that's changed since the last demo build. New in the full release Steam Achievements. 35 of them, covering traps, town buildings, mastery trees, combat and more. Most unlock right away based on your existing save. Lifetime kill-count achievements are the exception, since that wasn't tracked before now, so those start counting from today. Steam Cloud saves. Your saves now sync automatically, so you can pick up on another PC where you left off. New splash screen. Traps Flame Jet's burn now scales with the trap. It used to stay flat no matter ho…

  • Demo Update 0.21 - 11 August 2026

Two months of work since the last demo build. Most of it went into the save system, plus a round of performance work aimed at the later-game waves, preparing for release, and a handful of real balance changes. Your existing demo saves carry over. The beta is open The closed beta is live as of today, August 11, and runs through August 25. It covers the Prologue through Chapter 2 and is distributed through Steam Playtest. Chapters 3 and 4 are being built separately and aren't part of it. The first wave of invites has gone out to creators, press, and newsletter subscribers, and there's still room. I'll be sending more batches before the window closes. If you want in, join the newsletter at dawninglight.gg/newsletter and you'll be in the pool for the next one. Balance Aero Blast hits dramatically harder. Its damage was well below where it needed to be, so rank I now deals 60 damage, up from…

  • Demo Update (Graphical Overhaul) - v0.18 - 6 March 2026

After a bout with burnout - I'm back and at it. In this patch you can expect a whole visual overhaul (including optimizations), as well as an overhauled loot chest experience! I updated the game engine to utilize the latest that Unity has to offer, and also enabled DX12 by default. In my tests, I was able to achieve around a 35-40% increase in frame rate, while also improving the fidelity of the visuals. There's still more to be done, but this is a great starting point. Here's a preview of the new loot chest opening experience:In addition to these changes, there are numerous bug fixes and QoL adjustments. The coming patches will address the current features of the game, as well as potentially overhauling more aspects of the experience to further refine the gameplay and make it as fun as possible. Please submit your feedback if you've had time to play the demo - your opinions are valued!Ad…

  • Demo Update - v0.16.3 - 3 October 2025

Today there was an announcement relating to a security flaw found in all games that use the Unity game engine. The issue has been patched, and developers have all had to update their games to patch the security flaw as well. This update doesn't include anything beyond the engine update, which includes the fix for the security exploit. If you are curious about what this exploit is capable of (it's good to know because a lot of games use Unity), please read further here: https://flatt.tech/research/posts/arbitrary-code-execution-in-unity-runtime/ Thank you for your support, and rest assured that Heroes Suck has been updated and does not include this security flaw. Regards, Kalradia

  • Demo Update - v0.15 - 30 April 2025

Summary I thought the last update would be the last before beta, but plans may be changing slightly. I'll keep you informed about what's going on when I have plans finalized. There's still spots left for the beta, and if you sign up soon, you'll be guaranteed a spot! You can sign up here: https://heroessuck.com/newsletter/ These patch notes may be short, but there's so much more behind the scenes that I'm not adding to these notes, and I can't wait for you to be able to experience all that the game has to offer. Features Pause menu during battle. Finally. Improved UI during battle. Improved feedback form. Now you can choose to send your save file and/or screenshot with your report. Cutscene text reveal speed setting. Changes Challenge mode has been crunched down from 10 total stages to 5. This reduces a bit of tedium, and gives it a more challenging difficulty curve. Balancing Loot ches…

  • Demo Update - v0.14 - 17 March 2025

Summary A lot of work has been put into this update. So much that I don't have patch notes, but I do have bullet points of new content. This is the last update before beta, so if you would like to get a spot in the beta test, please do sign up. There's still spots left, and if you sign up soon, you'll be guaranteed a spot! You can sign up here: https://heroessuck.com/newsletter/ Features Voice acting! Kaelviir now has voice lines that play as you interact with the game. Heroes now have a gearing system. As they level up, their gear will improve. All new music. Experience the new and improved soundtrack. All new building upgrade system. You can experience this by upgrading the forge. Seriously, a lot of things were done in this reg…

  • Demo Update - v0.8 - 13 September 2024

Summary It's been a while! I've been making new content, and QoL changes. I figured it's time to update the demo. Here's the deal, though. I recently moved, things have been chaotic. I've also transitioned to a new source control, so I lost some history. As such, these patch notes are probably incomplete. I put in as much as I could remember, but I vaguely recall rebalancing quite a few things, especially challenge mode. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the update! Here's what I remember... Features New trap: Arrow Rain. This replaces Time Warper. This may only be a temporary change, we'll see. I wanted to give you a new trap to try out! Defeat rewards! Sounds crazy, I know. Now you'll keep 20% of the gold and experience, and all of the loot dropped upon a defeat. New Forge UI. Changes Mastery expansion and cleanup! I've added a lot of QoL to the mastery trees, and added a whole new one in this…

  • Demo Update - v0.7.3 - 7 June 2024

Summary Optimizations and improvements! Physics should feel more smooth now, and the game should run faster. Features Fortitude: Heroes now have a fortitude value that must be depleted to knock them down. This value and fortitude damage each trap does will be displayed on the UI in a future update. Ability tooltips! Hover over an ability to see more information. Graphics options! A few options have been added to customize the visuals and get a bit more performance on lower end machines. More to come! Changes Doubled the physics framerate from 50 to 100. This provides more accurate physics simulations at the cost of a little bit more CPU usage. Changed navmesh to allow enemies to get closer to the walls. This was initially put in place to have heroes avoid corners a bit more, but with more traps coming it will be less of an issue. This was also causing heroes to teleport around after the…

  • Demo Update - v0.7.2 - 15 May 2024

Important Note If you have any Pendulum Axes placed down in a save, you should sell them and rebuild them. They received a major overhaul in this update. Summary The Pendulum Axe has been reworked. This trap was the least used trap - for a good reason. It wasn't reliable, and rarely felt like it was hitting when it mattered. It has been overhauled to intentionally strike at enemies as they pass by. Overall, it feels a lot better and more in line with the other traps. I would love to hear your feedback on the changes to this trap. Changes Pendulum Axe rework! Oh.. and the Pendulum Axe also received a visual and audible upgrade. Analytics events improvements. Bug fixes Fixed text color display issue when you have an amount of gold equal to the required amount. Fixed display issue for the dungeon level tooltip on resolutions other than 1920x1080. What's next? I'm continuing to refine the c…

  • Demo Update - v0.7.1 - 10 May 2024

Summary There were some critical issues with the feedback form, so a quick patch was necessary. I've also included some new UI changes. Changes Cutscene interface aesthetic overhaul. Experience bar UI element overhaul. Bug fixes Feedback form issues addressed. Fixed UI typos and minor flow issues. Quit modal improvement - now you can return back to the game by clicking the 'x' or the background instead of being forced out. What's next? Preparation for the beta continues! Spots will be limited, so be sure to sign up to the newsletter for your opportunity to join the test. Enjoy! - Kalradia
