- UI/Lighting Update (Incl. New NPCs) - 16 April 2025

This is sort of mostly a groundwork/in between update so not too much big in here but still a few noteworthy additions. This updates just a small patch while I work on the new Map 5 that I've been showing off in my discord https://discord.gg/2sWcwxfV9Y PlayBlok update introduced a few bugs that I missed after having to backport the project to an older project version, some of these are: -Invisible shotgun shells -Invisible physics buttons -Broken gun magazines Those issues should now be fixed, I apologize for not finding them while testing they sorta slipped through the cracks. - PlayBlok Update - 12 November 2023
The PlayBlok Update Has Arrived! After a protracted strenuous struggle with the Unity engine I prevailed, conquerering the beast that challenged me. Whats new? PlayBloks (Varying building-block interactbles) and accompanying structures have been scattered around Jank Cube. Where can you find them I hear you ask, well dear reader let me tell you. Map 1: A new area is available for access in the top floor of Map 1, where previously years ago was a race car track now is a sprawling open arena of PlayBloks and PlayBlok structures for you to play with. - Early Story Polish - 26 October 2023
This update brings a number of improvements to the early story of the game (dont worry, more to come) I'll start by talking about what I changed that isnt spoilery so if you haven't played up until map 8 and want to go in without spoilers theres only one major thing you should know about: -Added replay tutorial feature, now you can replay the tutorial when new things are added and learn about them the way a new player would! -Added more context of what JC is within its universe to the tutorial to kickstart the idea maybe something is off in there. -Adjusted colors in the tutorial, I think its much better on the eyes now. -Added a button to skip the tutorial, for anyone who's already seen it before and is deleting their save. -Adjusted colors in the Map 1 spawnable area. -Adjusted Map 3 doghouse so it is now enterable (not really sure why you'd do that but feel free). -Adjusted hint that…
- NPC Update - 19 October 2023
NPCs have finally hit Jank Cube! Right now its just a basic assortment of physics dummies, but theres more to come, was trying to get something out since its been a little while since the last update. Since then I upgraded to Unity 2021, which should generally improve visuals and preformance, win win. What NPCs are available right now? Idle Dummy: This dummy is immune to all damage, and simply stands and waits, what for, we don't know. Follower Dummy: This dummy is also immune to damage, but will follow you around! Killable Dummy: This dummy is NOT immune to damage, and can die easily, but will still do his best to follow you around, wherever you might go. Target Dummy: This last dummy is not immune to damage, but alike the idle dummy will just stand around, menacingly, waiting. - Clone/Delete Guns - 6 September 2023

Smaller update compared to the last one, this update adds the Gravity Manipulation Device and the Spatiotemporal Disruptor (read, gravgun and physics grenade but that didnt sound cool enough) to every map! https://i.imgur.com/Lhe0nXO.jpg The Gravity Manipulation Device allows you to pick up any object regardless of size and weight, and manipulate it however you'd like! You can also stack this, so if you pickup an object with a GMD, and then pick up that GMD with another GMD you can make a cool train of them! https://i.imgur.com/KNqMGaZ.jpg The Spatiotemporal Disruptor is a harmless grenade type object which packs infinite uses, utilising its detonator you can send most objects in a large radius flying away with ease (warning, this includes ones self!) for your amusement. - Universal Render Pipeline Update - 3 September 2023
Major changes with this update, gonna be hard to remember all of them but I'll try. Firstly, render pipeline was switched to Universal RP, which was a major adjustment for me because it broke most of my shaders/materials, and changed massively how lighting worked in every single level, requiring me to start from scracth for a number of them. This has led to alot of changes (I think for the better) for most of them, making them look alot nicer and more unique. -Tutorial, tutorial has new stuff in it, explains more and has nicer lighting -Map 1, massive aesthetic changes and new interactables -Map 3, general aesthetic changes and new interactables -Map 4, darker, more calm lighting -Map 6, generally dimmer -Map 7, generally warmer inside -Map 9, brighter lighting and aesthetic changes, also new shader for the ocean -Map 10, not sure how to describe the lighting changes but its definitely…
- Jank Cube V1 and V2 - 24 August 2023
I initially started Jank Cube around August 2020 as a 13 year old with absolutely 0 experience in Unity, C# or blender. Naturally, my first project was not very great. It was ugly, didnt work well, was completely unoptomized, the list goes on. Still it holds a place in my heart, because without it I would have significantly less knowledge on all of the above and wouldnt be able to develop at the level I can. I have dubbed this era of development V1. Around (ironically) August 2022 I picked back up on Jank Cube utilising the SteamVR plugin, just to see what it would be like, and it eventually evolved to have 8 maps, 2 menus and was wildly different from V1, this era is known to me as V2. V2 is a strange era, because for everything JC was better in it still wasn't great. Alot of V2 stuck around into the current era, V3. V2 and V1 have in common they are both incredibly buggy, in the case…
