  • Discovering the roots of Depths of Ascension's world - Devlog 05 - 19 April 2024

If you've ever wondered how such a rich era of history and mythology like ancient Mesopotamia and Sumeria can influence the world of gaming, then you're in the right place! In this devlog, we'll get to know more of Depths of Ascension and explore how these ancient civilizations have inspired both the visual and narrative aspects of the game. To begin with, it's important to understand the cultural and historical significance of these ancient civilizations. Mesopotamia, often referred to as the “Cradle of Civilization”, was home to some of the world's earliest cities and empires. And within this fertile land, the Sumerian civilization flourished, known for its advanced cuneiform writing, complex legal and religious systems, and epic legends such as that of Gilgamesh. The art of these civilizations wasn’t only aesthetically impressive but also a profound expression of their religious and…

  • The Ka'tar People: Parasitic Fungi and Their Complex Society - Devlog 04 - 4 April 2024

Today, let's dive into the culture of the Ka'tar People. Although they may initially appear as antagonists, it's important to understand that their biological and cultural characteristics put them in a position of conflict with other humanoid races. Meaning of the name (in Sumerian): ka-tar princely; praise; challenger; a type of fungus or rot ('mouth' + 'to decide; to destroy') The Ka'tar are parasitic fungi that depend on infecting the brain of a humanoid host to survive and reproduce. This dependency puts them in a conflicted relationship with their hosts, as their very existence requires our subjugation. This inevitable imbalance is one of the reasons why the Ka'tar are seen as a threat by humanoid peoples. Furthermore, the Ka'tar lack a full understanding of human notions, resulting in behaviors often incomprehensible to others. The emotions they express on their faces are remnants…

  • 2D vs 3D and Unity vs Unreal - Devlog 03 - 14 March 2024

The initial plan for Depths of Ascension was to develop it in Unity, completely in 2D. However, a turnaround occurred when Unity's monetization policy changed, introducing an installation fee. It wasn't just the fee itself that made us reconsider the engine choice, but the unpredictability associated with future contractual changes. The sense that Unity could retroactively modify contracts, as they attempted the previous year, made us rethink our decision. Development was scheduled to begin on November 5th, a commitment established with the management of the grant that funded the production of this vertical slice. We had a short time to decide which engine to use and learn how to use it. We opted for Unreal due to its visual capabilities and decided to adapt the project to 2.5D, with 2D characters in a 3D environment. As we explored the transition to a 3D environment with 2D sprites, we…

  • Tackling Turn-Based Strategies - Devlog 02 - 8 March 2024

Greetings, summoner! It is with great enthusiasm that we bring another devlog of our game in development, Depths of Ascension. In this devlog, we will explore in detail the intricate turn-based system and general resources that underpin the gameplay of our game. At the heart of DoA lies a robust and dynamic turn-based system designed to offer an immersive and strategic experience to players. Tick - Game Time Unit: Every action, every movement, is governed by the fundamental unit of time in the game, known as the “tick”. Actor: In DoA, each entity, whether the protagonist of the demo Yehpa, the enemies faced, or the challenging elements of the environment, is considered an actor. Each of them has the ability to perform actions that shape the course of the adventure. Action Bar (AB): The action bar is the measure of the time remaining for an actor to perform its action. It decreases acco…

Short description

Depths of Ascension is a turn-based, tile-based traditional roguelike set in a high fantasy world inspired by Sumeria and the early Bronze Age cultures. Explore the twisting corridors of the Maze of Madness and use magic, stealth, diplomacy, brute force, the Gods, anything, to reach the Ascension.

About this game

Depths of Ascension is a Traditional Roguelike set in a fantasy world inspired by ancient Mesopotamia and the Early Bronze Age cultures, with magic, active gods, and demihuman races. In this turn-based, tile-based, dungeon-delving RPG with permadeath and procedural generation, you explore the dungeons, corridors, and caves of the twisted and ever-changing Mazes of Madness . A combat system with focus on a variety of possible actions and meaningful tactical decisions A dynamic lighting system, as well as dynamic sensory system that allow for diverse AI actions and reactions that provide interesting situations A divinity system that makes the interactions with the gods feel alive and real, and makes for unique divinity-aligned magic and gameplay A simple Sorcery magic system for people who want to blast enemies with fireballs without having to study the arcane arts A hardcore magic system based in using the right material components and arcane words to craft powerful rituals and incantations on the fly, with higher risks and higher rewards The characters you find as you explore react to you, and your actions shape how the denizens of the underworld and other people from the overworld that are also in mission interact with you in the future Factions and Lairs have their own AI with their own goals that guide the actions of the individual NPCs, providing a more organic simulation of the journey downwards A rich world with different cultures and a unique history to be found as you explore The game was designed with Permadeath in mind, but it will feature a Non-Permadeath game mode A pair of human generations ago, a powerful cabal of mages descended into those mazes to use the highly concentrated mana of the place to create a mechanism that allows mortals to become gods. That so-called Mechanism of Ascension was used by the group’s leader to ascend to godhood, and then stopped to function. It was abandoned, but now it started working again, sending some hummings through the magical weaves. All sorts of organizations took notice of it, and are now trying to get to the mechanism. All factions want to use the mechanism for their own ends, and are sending their…

Price History Overview

USD uses SteamPulse's own locally recorded daily store snapshots, so this overview reflects the exact regional price history that SteamPulse has captured for this currency.

Coverage And Tracking Window

  • Snapshots: 1
  • Coverage: Sep 24, 2026 to Sep 24, 2026
  • Lowest observed: $0.00
  • Highest observed: $0.00

Depths of Ascension's USD price history spans from Sep 24, 2026 to Sep 24, 2026, with 1 recorded snapshot across 1 calendar day. Each row records the available final price, listed base price, and discount metadata for that observation. Within this coverage the lowest recorded price is $0.00, the highest is $0.00, and the first visible tracked price is $0.00. These comparisons apply only to the snapshots SteamPulse holds; missing observations can contain changes that are not represented here.

For USD, SteamPulse uses locally captured regional storefront snapshots and does not reconstruct older prices with exchange-rate conversion. The chart and table show the values recorded for this exact currency from the stated coverage start. Additional snapshots extend that record, but they do not fill unobserved days or prove what the storefront displayed between observations.

Discount Windows And Sale Timing

  • Discount windows: 0
  • Discounted days: 0 days
  • Deepest markdown: No discount tracked
  • Latest sale window: No sale window tracked

Depths of Ascension's tracked USD rows do not contain a discount window. This means no available snapshot in the stated coverage has usable discount metadata; it does not prove that the game was never discounted. Missing snapshots or archived rows without complete metadata can hide a sale, so SteamPulse does not infer pricing strategy from this absence.

If a later snapshot includes discount metadata, it will appear here with its recorded depth, price, date, and sale name when available. Until then, this section should be read only as a description of the available rows, not as evidence about the publisher's promotion policy.

Observed Price Changes And Stable Runs

  • Observed price drops: 0
  • Observed price rises: 0
  • Longest stable run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking
  • Current run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking

Outside rows carrying discount metadata, the tracked price has not recorded a separate price rise or drop yet. That means the observed undiscounted level has stayed stable across the snapshots SteamPulse currently holds. This is a statement about the recorded coverage only; it does not prove that an older or missing price change never happened.

The longest unchanged price stretch in the current record lasts 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking at $0.00, from Sep 24, 2026 through Sep 24, 2026. Among rows without discount metadata, the longest unchanged run lasts 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking at $0.00. The latest run records $0.00 for 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking as the same recorded undiscounted price. Run lengths describe consecutive stored observations only and do not establish that a price is permanent.

Latest Snapshot And Sales Context

  • Current price: $0.00
  • Current list price: $0.00
  • Distinct observed prices: 1
  • Source mode: SteamPulse local tracking

The latest tracked snapshot records Depths of Ascension at $0.00 in USD, with no active discount metadata. Across the available history SteamPulse has recorded 1 distinct final price in this currency. This supports comparisons with the lowest, highest, and most common values present in the retained record, subject to the stated coverage limits.

The live sales view and Steam sales record provide calendar context for these dates. A date overlap can be compared with a named Steam event, but it does not prove why a publisher changed a price. As new daily rows arrive, this overview recalculates its observed prices, discount windows, and run lengths automatically.
