- 75% sale + future plans - 14 September 2026
Hello lads, another self-explanatory post, the game's on 75% off for two weeks, so I humbly ask you spread the word however you can if you like the game. Now, onto something a bit more interesting. I'd aimed for a demo of the RPG project by year's end, but as things stand that won't be happening. I'd like to get it in a Next Fest as I did with AR, but the cutoff date for the year's final one is fast approaching and the game's not yet in a presentable condition. Partially due to being busier on the illustration side gig lately, partially due to a bout of bad illness a while ago, partially from a streak of perfectionism causing a lot of reworks to the combat over time. The good news is it's shaping up to be a banger it's got a heavier focus on the story than AR but I'm maintaining a similar philosophy of keeping the story short and sweet and having a lot of other stuff to do, so you can f…
- Demo has been reactivated and enhanced! - 20 July 2026
Been meaning to do this for a while, but the demo has been put back up. On top of getting all the enhancements from versions since release, it's also been expanded to include the third world, Higan. If you've been on the fence, now's the best time to give it a try.Features included in the demo:First 3 worlds, 15 levels altogether. The wardrobe for dressing up your cool little goast.Full access to records/statistics and level ranks.Features not included in the demo:EX levels.Leaderboards.Classic Mode.I do hope this sweetens the deal and gets you on board to play the rest of the game, and spreading the game through word of mouth would also be greatly appreciated. Whilst still far from recuperating the time and money investment, I consider this game a success and I'm proud of how it's turned out. In the meantime, I'll be working on my new RPG game. It's a lot heavier on art assets and syste…
- Thanks for 100 sales! + Snippet of Upcoming Game - 28 June 2026
As the title suggests, the game finally hit triple digits. Probably not remarkable if you're some big AAA company but a nice milestone to hit for my first of hopefully quite a few games I put on here. Progress is happening on the next big project and it's going quite well. I would like to have a demo for it up for the year's last Next Fest but that depends on a few external factors. Either way it's quite a bit more ambitious than AR. As thanks for hitting 100 sales, I'll show off some screenshots and character art/sketches for the game in its early stages. Very little of this, if any, is final. I've had a lot of ideas for this brewing for about a year now but it took a while before I committed to realising them in a game. I hope you'll give it a try whenever it's all ready. Meanwhile, the game's on a 75% sale. The game's also hit double digit reviews, and they're almost all positive. Fo…
- Afterlife Reverie v2.1.1 Update - 21 April 2026
- The game scene now stops processing as soon as the level is manually restarted, this is to prevent the game bugging out if the death animation is triggered and its timer completes after a Restart. - Using Fast Travel no longer crashes the game. Dev notes: Thanks to everyone reporting these, the first one was quite long overdue but better late than never. That being said, there does appear to be a very sporadic issue where phase/transformation exit inputs don't register. But I and others have been entirely unable to replicate it with any consistency. Yomi always enters the scene with her ability to phase enabled and the ONLY circumstances during which she typically can't phase are during an existing phase or while she's using a Lily Launcher. If anyone manages to find any sort of consistent trigger or cause, would you kindly let me know somehow, either on the Steam forums or over on Tw…
- Afterlife Reverie+ v2.1 - Quality of (After)Life Update - 20 April 2026
So much for finality, amirite?Mainly for some technical fixes/QOL but I decided to add in a Classic mode. It's not a Hard mode per se but it does make the Superjump return to its previous, much tighter timing and modifies a few levels to better enforce the intended progression. It has its own leaderboard and some new achievements for the trouble.- Added a Classic mode on creating a new save file.-- Classic mode recreates the behaviour of superjumps prior to Jump Buffering being added; the trick now has a MUCH tighter window to perform, at two process frames (the game processes physics at 60 ticks per second, effectively giving a 1/30th second window). As it was before v1.2.something, this trick had a one frame window. I generously gave you double.-- It also makes some slight tweaks to certain levels to better enforce their intended progression, the medals' times remain unchanged.-- Chan…
- AR+ v2.1 in the works - 12 April 2026
So much for that final farewell thing. That being said, this won't be much in terms of actual content. My main priorities are QoL stuff. Short list of things either done or planned: Setting to turn off snow particles in levels using themI think a Godot Engine update made these run a lot worse on low end hardware.A proper pause menu in the levels themselves.Options menu accessible without returning to the main menu. If I really feel like it I might add one or two shiny trinkets. But this is very much a side thing I'll passively work on as I'm gathering steam on my RPG game. Estimated ETA is sometime in May but it's already proven extremely difficult in places on account of my horrendous 2024 coding so that's malleable. In the meantime I draw a lot of 2hus on Twitter, do feel free to drop by, there is also the occasional gamedev post you might be interested in: https://x.com/HellRavenLover
- Afterlife Reverie+ has arrived. - 14 February 2026
v2.0- Technical overhaul, the game is broadly restructured to focus on rendering at 1080p.-- Added multiple resolution options, from the original 576p to a full 4K.--- The game still internally renders at 1080p, but it can at least scale to higher resolutions in windowed mode.-- Optimisations to code where possible to reduce bad practices and maybe save performance.- A comprehensive overhaul of every cutscene in the game. Character busts have been improved across the board.- New game logo to accommodate the "plus" amendment to the name.-- I'll be working to update the store's assets to reflect this.- Added some missing localization lines.- A brand new level added to the EX level menu, along with 2 new accessories.-- There are no prerequisites to access the level but it does contain a late-game area's visual setting and mechanics introduced in World 3.- Added camera shake system.-- Trigg…
- Merry Christmas! Bonus sale + little progress update - 26 December 2025
Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope Santa has filled your stockings and the Lord has answered your every prayer. Now, the elephant in the room. The update still isn't done, I'm a lazy hack and I'm far too obsessed with drawing Blue Archive girls. That being said, while small, the progress is not zero. Given the absolute dumpster fire that is the entire rest of the internet right now, I'll be diverting far more time into drawing stuff for this game and other future projects. Ambition is to have AR+ out by the end of January. So have another 60% off sale. Whether it'll be the last, I'll stop saying. We'll find out by January's end. In the meantime, some advancements since the last update: New logo for the game. Subject to change. WIP rework of Yomi's human self. Will be a few variations of this.Tutorials are now delivered orally by Otonoji-san, replacing the crappy scribbles floating in the…
- Definitely Final Pre-Update Sale - 15 November 2025
Hey all, the previous sale was intended to be the last before the big AR+ update but due to multiple factors (in part because I've been indecisive about the style to go for, but mostly because of getting sidetracked drawing Blue Archive girls) the artistic side of the update simply isn't ready yet, and won't be in time for the hoped-for release date of the game's first anniversary. So before you all give me the Marie Antoinette treatment, I would like to offer a compromise: one last 80% off sale before the big update, which should arrive before December's end. I'm as desperate to get this update out as you are to play it, but these things cannot be rushed. I want AR to be in the best state it can before I move on to other projects. So if you don't yet have it, grab the game! As previously mentioned, AR+ won't increase the game's price but it will mean some stingier sales for a while. Th…
- v2.0 sneak peek - 20 September 2025
What started as just redoing the terribad cutscene art has come to bring a lot more to the table. Here's a few things you can expect when v2.0 launches hopefully before year's end. Somehow, the camera zoom returned. Much fancier transition, I'm sure you agree. The Assault Spy wipe isn't quite as flashy in Hell. Omuro Cave looks a bit different. That's all I have to present for now. There's a few more mechanical changes, such as how tutorialisation is handled, and not all the levels quite jive with a zooming camera just yet. Give me time (and your money) and you'll be astonished. While you're waiting, I suggest watching Dizzy Dokuro. She has a lovely voice.
- Afterlife Reverie+ is on the way. - 17 September 2025
Under the tentative title Afterlife Reverie+, I'm working on a decently sized update for the game, aiming to release it in time for the game's first anniversary in late November. The current scope of the update is to comprehensively redo all the cutscenes now that I kinda know how to draw, and improve some technical aspects of the game such as having it internally render at 1080p as opposed to 576p. Moment-to-moment gameplay is also seeing some improvements in feel and function. As for new content, there's nothing concrete as of yet but at least one new level is likely, and I'm open to suggestions so long as they're within the scope of the update. I anticipate this will be the final major update for the game, I've been having a lot of fun learning to draw and this will be a good test of my year's progress so far, but I'm eager to get onto a new game after this. The Seija fangame I was w…
- Minor maintenance patch. - 18 August 2025
No changes of note, just updating some old projects to the latest Godot Engine version. On a related note, I did just put out a prototype for a game I never finished earlier this year. https://nuclear-raven-games.itch.io/touhou-carnage-parade-prototype Had plans of getting this up to a level where I'd release it on Steam but certain factors led to me not finishing it. Either way, AR won't be both the first and last game I release on here, God willing. Edit: The demo has also been taken down, its version is quite old and not nearly representative of the final game in multiple ways.
- Afterlife Reverie v1.2.3 - 25 May 2025
- More or less just a handful of small visual enhancements. -- Enabled texture filtering on cutscene assets. -- Improvements to cloud animation and movement in World 3 and 7. -- Fog effect added to World 6 levels. -- Change to background effect of World 3. -- New effect for green flames. Developer's notes: This is more or less backporting some visual work I've done in more recent projects into AR. There's only so much I can do given that the game is held together with PVA glue and pixie dust but I think these small touches are worth it. Something more substantive is in the works. How long it'll take or its exact scope, I'm not yet sure.
- Afterlife Reverie v1.2.2 - 24 May 2025
Just nipping a little something in the bud. Patch notes: - Fixed an error where the achievement Rise Like A Dragon, Perch Like A Phoenix would be awarded on creating a new save file. - Updated the game engine to Godot 4.4.
- v1.2.1 Patch Notes - 18 February 2025
"Raven did you forget a bunch of stuff again?" https://media1.tenor.com/m/XnGK5CaQTt4AAAAd/ah-eto-bleh-anime.gif v1.2.1 - Updated localization file to include missing accessory names. - Added lower bound killbox and upper bound space cutscene trigger to the final EX Level.
- Teach Me, Otonoji-San! - Afterlife Reverie v1.2 Patch Notes - 17 February 2025
The long-awaited v1.2 update is finally here, alongside a 40% discount! I anticipate this will be the final major update to the game, given that I would like to move onto other projects, but at a staggering 46 levels, I think I've left a feature-complete game in my wake. If you enjoy the game, I encourage you to spread the word to friends, and what better time than during a sale? v1.2 Teach Me, Otonoji-San! Update - 3 New EX Levels added where Otonoji teaches you about advanced techniques after beating the game. - 7 New EX Levels accessible after beating the previous 3, each with an additional requirement to unlock. -- All EX Levels include new accessories for collected Scraps and S Ranks. - 8 new achievements added to Steam - EX Levels' selection boxes now change colour based on their completion status. -- Torquise if their scrap has been collected. -- Purple if their S Rank has been a…
- Afterlife Reverie - 04/02/25 Devlog - 4 February 2025
Hey gamers, it's my birthday so in between all the stuff that entails, I thought I'd share a few snippets of what's cooking with v1.2. Tweaks to Wardrobe UI, and new accessories. New EX Level menu layout, and some of its new contents. Two incoming EX Levels. The caveat of course is that most, though not all, of these levels are post-game content, meaning you have to see Yomi's journey through to its end before you can enter the Fracture and get your balls busted even harder. So why not get a start on it now? The game's price will not increase now or in the future, but now may be the best chance to pick the game up and hone your skills, preparing for the trials that await. Thanks for reading, Raven.
- Afterlife Reverie v1.1.2 - 14 January 2025
- Added jump buffering to the game, giving a small window before Yomi lands for the game to register and execute a jump input upon landing. -- This certainly makes a lot of level times easier, but they remain unchanged. Mainly because retroactively changing them would irreparably screw up existing save files. - Changes to the EX Level menu layout to accommodate the soon-to-be larger list. - If a leaderboard slot's name is too long to be contained inside the box, the player's time is no longer cut off, it simply escapes the box. - Fixed an animation error for the Priestess and Miner transformations that occurred at framerates above 144, caused by a change to their code in the prior patch. - Fixed a crash on 2-2 caused by ending the level as a Scarecrow.
- Afterlife Reverie v1.1.1 - 11 January 2025
A very small patch to fix a very annoying issue I've had trouble stamping out until now. v1.1.1: - Finally fixed a long-standing bug where the breakable blocks encountered as a Miner could be triggered by jumping off of them under certain circumstances. - A portion of the transformations' code that ran on each rendered frame now correctly runs on every physics tick (60 per second).
- Afterlife Reverie Devlog 11/01/25 - 11 January 2025
Ohayo. Let's get straight to the point, I'm working on some new levels for the game. I fully intended to move straight onto another big project and maybe dot a handful of new levels in to AR here and there but I'm struggling to come up with something new to work on. Until that next idea solidifies in my head, I'll simply keep adding to this game. The sales have expectedly been on the lower end but those who have played it have left some glowing reviews. Every one is appreciated. So what can you expect in the near future? - New "Teach Me, Otonoji-san!" EX levels designed to teach the player advanced techniques and exploits. -- These will be unlocked upon beating the final level of World 7. - Other EX levels unlocked from various milestones and points of progression, varying in length and difficulty. - All EX levels also contain a unique clothing item for both S Ranking and collecting its…
