- Changelog 1.0.3 - 5 March 2026
Hello! With this update we close out this first upgrade cycle, tackling the most important topic of all: Map 2 Bosses.Let's start with the main topic of this update:The Heralds ReworkWe've completed the work we started in Update 1.0.2 and removed Heralds' complete invulnerability to Maluses. This means developing previously incompatible systems. For balance reasons, Heralds will remain immune to movement (most often caused by Wind cards), but will be vulnerable to most other status effects around which players can build their decks. This means that strategies based on sustained damage will also be effective against bosses.Be careful not to rely too heavily on these, as the legacy of their cosmic power has been preserved in the Heralds.Along with their most powerful attack, they will also be able to remove all Maluses on them.Other balancingHere are other minor changes we made to enhance the…
- Changelog 1.0.2 - 23 February 2026
Utility Card ReworkAfter extensive internal playtesting and observing countless players discover and interact with Utility cards (those unlocked with the Prodigy background), we noticed that some felt OP, while others were nearly unplayable and were often removed from decks after just a few fights. We therefore decided to spend some time reworking them and creating a new, updated version of these cards that would excite players and inspire new strategies.Fire Utility: Flame WithinFor this utility, we completely redesigned the Malus it generated. Before this update, the "Burning" Malus caused a percentage loss of HP, but we realized that this choice severely penalized the player, who often found themselves with more Max HP than their enemies. The damage was therefore almost useless against enemies, but we couldn't change it for fear of making it even more unmanageable for the player.Sinc…

Hi! First of all, thank you for your incredible support on the launch of Journey to the Void!Your constant engagement and feedback help us improve the game and fix aspects that slipped through our tests before release. I wanted to take a few words to cover what you’ll find in this update, and at the end, I’ll speak about what we are working on and what to expect from future patches. We wanted to focus on playability first, so we concentrated all our efforts on removing bugs and improving the player experience.CHANGES“Foulshapes” waves now don’t appear in Villager runsWe decided, for the moment, to remove the “Foulshape” waves when you start your run with a Villager deck, in order to avoid a hard obstacle that only the most skilled players could overcome.“Reload” is now explained. We heard your feedback and added the description of the Reload effect whenever it is mentioned in the game, so…

- New Demo Update - 22 January 2026
Hi!Once again, you inspired us with your ton of advice to improve the game, and we love hearing from you. All the improvements end up in the final game, but we also want to offer it in the demo. Here is a list of some of the improvements:Beatable Tutorial BossPreviously, at the end of the tutorial, the player was faced with an impossible battle against an unbeatable goblin. After listening to player feedback, we spiced things up a bit. Now the battle is very difficult, but it can be beaten. We still had to end the run there, so if you want to know what happens next, create a new save file and replay the tutorial now! We also shortened up some dialogues to make the tutorial experience smoother for future players.A new way to play cardsBefore this update, in order to play a card, players needed to drag it from their hand onto the battlefield. While this method will continue to work, we adde…

- The Art of Journey to the Void - 17 April 2025
Hello, players When designing the world of Journey to the Void, we wanted to create something visually striking, something that would pull players in with its vibrant charm while subtly hinting at the deeper, more complex themes beneath the surface. At first glance, the regions you explore are bursting with life: lush landscapes, fascinating creatures, and a dazzling color palette that makes every step of the Journey feel inviting. But as you progress toward the heart of each region, something sinister begins to take hold. Corruption seeps in, twisting the once beautiful environment into something eerie and unsettling. The creatures you once admired become distorted echoes of their former selves, victims of the same chaos you've come to fight. This stark contrast between the lively, colorful world and the creeping, inescapable decay was a deliberate choice. We wanted players to feel emo…
- Upcoming Features in Journey to the Void - 25 March 2025
Hello, players Development on Journey to the Void continues here at RuneHeads, and we wanted to share some of the features we've been working on. Traits & Region Fatigue – No Two Runs Are the Same Every character will now start a run with randomly assigned Traits—some beneficial, some not so much. This means each playthrough will feel fresh, forcing you to adapt to new challenges (or lucky advantages). Traits are tied to a new mechanic: Region Fatigue. As you complete runs in a region, the best characters from that area will gradually become unavailable, making it harder to find strong recruits. If you keep hammering the same region, you'll start pulling characters with increasingly difficult (or downright cursed) Traits. This will be a good reason for most players to explore new regions and keep things balanced. But for those of you who love a brutal challenge—keep going. Think you can…
- Meet RuneHeads - The Team Behind Journey to the Void - 12 March 2025
Hello, players, At RuneHeads, we're more than just a game studio. We're a team built on education, mentorship, and a shared love for game development. Our founders are teachers at Italian video game academies, and some of our most talented students have joined the team, turning their passion into a career. Like many developers, we see video games as more than just a pastime. We see them as a valuable tool, a method of self-expression, and something that can bring people together. This is why we started teaching: We wanted to make sure that future generations could get the grounding that wasn't available to us when we were younger. There are so many options when it comes to learning how to create games these days, but we still believe learning with a group is essential. Working with others brings new ideas, new ways of thinking, and solutions to problems you would never think of alone. T…
- Looking to the Future of Journey to the Void - 26 February 2025
Hello, players, Development continues on Journey to the Void, and we wanted to share some of the things we're currently working towards. The team is working incredibly hard to shape our vision for the game, so these should give you a glimpse of where we're going on this Journey. A Vast, Elemental World The full game will feature eight unique elemental regions, each teeming with its own ecosystem of over 100 creatures and 10 epic boss fights. Every elemental power will introduce distinct effects and game-changing combinations, offering multiple ways to experiment and strategize. The Codex Your Journey wouldn't be complete without a way to track your progress. That's where the Codex comes in: A comprehensive almanac that logs every enemy, item, card, and trait you unlock. Think of it as your personal encyclopedia of Journey to the Void's universe. Your Choices Matter Certain special event…
- What We Learned from Our First Playtest - 12 February 2025
Hello, players! It's been a little while since we made the first demo for Journey to the Void available. The first thing we want to say is thank you! Thank you to all of you who took the time to try out our game and for all the feedback you've sent our way. We're a small team, so getting this kind of player feedback has been invaluable to us. One of the big things we learned is how we get players into their first game. We wanted to make this experience as frictionless and easy as possible without overloading the player with a bunch of new systems as soon as they start. Game design is full of unexpected challenges, and one of the trickiest we faced was explaining how card direction affects which tiles they hit on the grid. Communicating this sounds simple, right? Well, after playtest feedback and multiple iterations (and a few late-night debates), we finally landed on a solution that fee…
