  • Tinto Talk 124 - Economy, Trade & Tariffs - 16 September 2026

It’s another Happy Wednesday! Bring out your spreadsheets and YouTube guides, this week we have some economy to talk about. To give us the rundown on what the economy looks like in 1.4 I’m passing this week’s baton to my good friend Jorge, who is our resident Econ enjoyer and a UX Designer here at Paradox Tinto.Trade OrdersHello there! I am @Jorge, one of the UX designers working in Europa Universalis V. You might have seen me around before as an internal QA of studio Tinto, but I was (d̶e̶)promoted to UX Designer almost a year ago, so today I have the immeasurable honor to be presenting you one of the beefy-est UX undertakings coming for 1.4: the reworking of the infamous Trade UI.In the old system, back in release days, Trade was either completely manual or completely automated. However, the old manual system, where you had to set up individual Trades between 2 Markets, never really w…

  • Tinto Talks 123 - Campaign Timeline & 1.4 Performance - 9 September 2026

It’s another happy Wednesday! I’m Ryagi, Community Manager for your two favorite games (EU4 and EU5 of course) and today we’ll be talking about a collection of things on everyone's minds, including performance in 1.4, complacency, and more. But before that we have something new to show you, the Campaign Timeline Feature!EU5 is a game about guiding your nation through the early modern period, and while many of the encounters you face are internal, economy focused or otherwise intangible, borders remain a very cool and popular way of sharing a snapshot of your game with others. That’s why we’ve introduced the timeline feature! So that players can better share the stories they create in EU5. In EU4 the timeline is a feature that comes with the Mare Nostrum DLC, for EU5 we want to be clear the Timeline feature will be available free with update 1.4. (Not a part of Across the Pillars)You can…

  • Tinto Talks 122 - UI and QOL Changes - 2 September 2026

Hey again everybody! Happy Wednesday. Today we’re going to be sharing some miscellaneous quality of life features coming within 1.4, particularly with the user interface and usability. There’s a lot of small but fun bits and pieces to cover, so let’s just go one by one. Road Builder ImprovementsThe road builder tool has received some love. By default, the tool will find the best path for Proximity between two Locations and build all possible Roads, as it did before. But now you can now use set it to skip sections where Rivers or Maritime connections are already yielding better Proximity than a Road. Also, the map now displays a preview of the road you are going to build, with different art assets depending on the level of road you are building. As you can tell from the preview arrows on the map, this action will not build roads between Flix and Belchite, since the Ebro river is already g…

  • Tinto Talk 121 - Expeditions - 19 August 2026

Hello everyone! Ryagi here, your friendly neighborhood community manager. As promised, this week we’ll be taking an early look at expeditions. Before we get too deep into them though, we have a caveat to stress first. Expeditions are still under development, and as we’re actively continuing to test and iterate on them in the places we can. We see a system like this as a potential solution to making exploration more engaging, but we’ve not fully implemented all the required components to promise that yet anytime soon. For this reason, we want to stress that this is an early look so we can get feedback from you, the community! If we successfully implement any of the design ideas in the oven, we’ll let you know in the future Tinto Talks. What are expeditions? With that out of the way though, let’s dive into what expeditions are currently, so that you can give us the feedback we’ll use to m…

  • Tinto Talks 120 - Decisions & Content Tab - 12 August 2026

Happy Wednesday, everyone. Ryagi here once again! And today we’re talking about a small but exciting feature making its return from past EU games: Decisions. We’ll give you an overview of what role we decisions in EU5 to play, and then dive into a quick round of examples. But before that, we have to talk about where they live in the gamegame...Introducing the Content TabAs the tooltip suggests, this is where a country's unique content will liveThe Content Tab will serve as a place to see “Ok, what makes my country unique”, which should help facilitate gameplay experiences whether you are trying to RP, Min-Max, or somewhere in between. We’ve moved some of the existing UI, such as the event viewer, to this area, and it will also serve as a place for future unique content! (Yes, speculate freely; we did say we’re aiming for a big content delivery system update next year ;D)Unique advances…

  • Tinto Talks #119 - Politics & Diplomacy [Update 1.4 Preview] - 5 August 2026

PoliticsPolitical InfluenceMana is back on the menu boys!Seriously, though as you have noticed we had a lot of places in the game we end up with insanely varied gold costs for various actions, or weird usages of legitimacy or stability. This was creating balancing issues that were not present in EU4.Political Influence is a new country currency, ranging from 0 to 100, and it represents your ruler's accumulated political capital. This currency if kept high increases the base crown power by up to 20%.You gain it primarily through the total abilities of the ruler, and from the active ability of members of your cabinet. There are also laws and privileges that impact how much you will get from it.You've seen bird mana, but now it's time for ring manaPolitical influence is spent primarily on estate related actions, including instituting new estate privileges which now cost political influence…

  • Tinto Talks 118 - Introducing 1.4 + Miscellaneous Changes - 29 July 2026

Hello everyone! Happy Wednesday, today we’re excited to start going into more details on update 1.4. Last week we discussed some of the scope changes we made to 1.4, so we highly recommend you read that short but important Tinto Talk if you haven’t already. To recap, Ambitions have been moved to the future so we can spend some more time, love, and testing on them. And update 1.4 is not focused on colonization, but rather a pre 1500s Iberia. Our Vision for Update 1.4Every Europa Universalis has been a game about what you can become, but we want 1.4 to lean more into how many more ways there are to get there. For a long time, the paths to power felt somewhat accidental. You waited for the right marriage, the right heir, the right moment for a neighbor to overextend. The game rewarded patience, but it didn't always reward player initiative. In some ways it felt as if you were simply reacti…

  • Tinto Talks 117 - 1.4 News & Schedule - 22 July 2026

Happy Wednesday Everyone, for Today’s Tinto Talk we have some important news and updates to share with you. Every Grand Voyage needs a course, and part of steering honestly is telling you when that course changes. Straight to the point: Ambitions will not come with 1.4. And we want to be upfront about why that is. We’ve indicated before that Ambitions are one of the features we're most excited about. They’re conceptually designed to give nations both short and long-term goals that shape how you play and open new paths for diplomatic cooperation and conflict. However, we only get one chance to release them. A feature this central needs to land complete, balanced, and genuinely add to how you play, not go out early because it makes a changelog look fuller. You've told us before when we've released things without the balancing and polish they needed. We heard that, and we're choosing to gi…

Surveys like these will continue to be a key piece in guiding our ongoing development and community process. We'll be accepting responses until the end of July so spread the word! Take the 1.3 survey here: https://pdxint.at/EU5Survey2

  • Patch 1.3.11 - 16 July 2026

Hello everyone! Today we're releasing patch 1.3.11, which seeks to primarily address Mercenary Spam and make some trading adjustments, along with a fix for imperial circle notification spam. You can find the full patch notes below: Checksum: b08dDate: July 16, 2026Previous Patch: 1.3.10 EconomyThe base trade range is now wider and the merchant capacity penalty for trading beyond it is less steep; more neighboring markets now fall within free range, and stretching past it costs less extra capacity per unit of distance. All countries now have a base 10% income from trades (added on top of the previous trade income modifier from crown power). Merchant Republics' bonus to trade income has dropped from 25% to 20% as the base has increased for all countries from 0% to 10%. Halved the base merchant maintenance cost to ease early-game trade profitability. DiplomacyReduced Imperial circle leader…

  • Tinto Talks 116 - 1.3 wrap up & 1.1 survey stats - 15 July 2026

Happy Wednesday! I’m Ryagi, Community Manager at Tinto. We’re back with yet another Tinto Talk, and this time we’re taking a moment to give a retrospective on the 1.3 Open Beta, which concluded with the launch of update 1.3 July 9th, last week. Somehow it feels like update 1.3 has been out for a month, but nope, I triple checked… It’s been less than a week at time of writing.Overall we certainly consider 1.3 to be a success, and a large part of that success is contributed to the open beta period. That being said, we certainly hear that not everything pointed out was addressed successfully in time, which is why we have a new patch for 1.3 this week. So let’s take a brief moment to talk about that first! What’s coming in patch 1.3.11 Here are the changes related to trade: Halved the base merchant maintenance cost to ease early-game trade profitability. The base trade range is now wider and…

  • Update 1.3 - Out Now! - 9 July 2026

Good day everyone! Today we're happy to say Update 1.3 Pavia, has officially concluded it's open beta phase of development and is now available by default on Steam. Firstly, 1.3 would not be here without the help of those that opted into our Open Beta, and especially those that gave their feedback on it. So thank you! 1.3 Feature Video: Here are some of the highlights:Estates & Rebellions - Estates now adopt their culture and religion from the most powerful pops inside of them. If a rebellion brews, you can now negotiate with factions or grant concessions by spending legitimacy before they fight. If a revolt does happen, individual forts will roll for loyalty based on factors like estate satisfaction and local unrest.Credit & Economy - Build a creditworthiness score from 0 to 100 through responsible borrowing to earn lower interest rates. Defaulting or going bankrupt means every future…

  • Tinto Talk 115 + Patch 1.3 Feature Video - 8 July 2026

Happy Wednesday everyone! I’m Ryagi, community manager, and it's time for another Tinto Talk. We have a short one this time, as we’re deep in preparation for 1.3 to hit live branches. And similar to last week, this touches on the things that most impact stable players. That means this time we're focusing mostly on what update 1.3 entails, and next week, we'll be holding a retrospective on the beta process as a whole.First and formost:I’m happy to say 1.3 will hit stable branches Thursday July 9th (At the time of writing, that's tomorrow!)This release wouldn't have been possible without the help of all those who particpated in the open beta. So thank you for those of you that did!If you're looking to get caught up on what 1.3 changed, we have just released our 1.3 feature video here:Mid Beta Institution TweaksOne of the things we changed during the beta process itself was institution spre…

  • [Beta Version] Patch Notes - 1.3.10 - 7 July 2026

Hello everyone! 1.3.10 is our final beta patch before 1.3 beta goes onto the stable branch. It makes some changes to diseases, as well as some further adjustments to institution spread. Checksum: c764Date: July 07, 2026Previous Patch: 1.3.8 SocietyUsing the cabinet action to assimilate Primary Culture pops with a non-primary culture is now correctly much slower, instead of being the same fast speed as Discriminated cultures. DiplomacyEnforced an alliance-style opinion floor and at-war block on defensive league joins. MilitaryReduced levy food consumption so early-game levy armies can sustain themselves without supply trains.Capped the over-supply-limit food consumption penalty so large stacks no longer drain full reserves in days. GeopoliticsLocations with pops migrating in no longer cause diseases to continue indefinitely. AdvancesMoved levy, ship, military, and production advances out…

  • Tinto Talks 114 - 1.3 Italian Situation Feedback - 1 July 2026

Hello everyone, Happy Wednesday, and welcome to another Tinto Talk. I’m PDX Ryagi and joining me for todays Tinto Talk are PDX Habibi Community Ambassador on EU5, along with content designers PDX Bigboss and PDX Pintu. This time rather than our usual look forwards, we’re instead covering some of the feedback we’ve gathered on the reworked Italian Situations throughout the 1.3 open beta and what changes we made throughout that process. We covered the reworks themselves previously in Tinto Talk 111, so if you want to see what’s actually changed since 1.2 be sure to give that a read. Keep in mind feedback showcased here is not exhaustive. So just because you have not seen your own points brought, does not necessarily mean we haven't seen them. We'd highly encourage you to comment below if you have additional feedback or thoughts. If you missed the major news on the Italian Wars rework, we cr…

Fixed frustrate annexation working in the wrong direction. EconomyFixed military sponsorship payments not updating after reloading. Trade route maintenance now reflects the actual travel path rather than being capped to the straight-line range distance; routes that detour around terrain are no longer artificially discounted in their upkeep cost. Reduced the penalty on estate satisfaction from individualism from 5.0% to 2.5%.
