- FriedrichAI Backend & Voice Upgrade. - 20 August 2026
This update focuses on the underlying FriedrichAI backend, voice quality, and reliability. The biggest visible change is a new local text-to-speech voice powered by Supertonic, with significantly more natural speech than the previous default. The voice model is bundled locally, works fully offline, and does not require an internet connection or external service. FriedrichAI will still fall back to the existing Piper voice where appropriate. This update also includes a large batch of backend improvements: better response completion, improved handling of longer and numbered answers, expanded diagnostics and status reporting, cleaner error handling, and support for cancelling an active generation.Local speech-to-text support has also been wired into the backend using a separate offline runtime. The user-facing microphone controls are not enabled yet; those will arrive with the upcoming UI wo…

That one was specific enough to track down and fix quickly. As always, FriedrichAI remains fully local and offline by default.
- Last sale before price increase - 11 August 2026
Last Sale Before the Price IncreaseFriedrichAI is on sale. This will be the last sale before I raise the base price in September. The reason for the increase is pretty simple: FriedrichAI is a much bigger program than it was when I launched it, and I'm still adding to it.The next major addition is Friedrich Worlds, the adventure/world system I've been building. The goal is to let you create and play persistent AI-driven worlds locally, with characters, inventory, combat, exploration, consequences, and a world that actually remembers what happened instead of just making up a new answer every turn.I'm hoping to have V1 of Worlds ready later this month.FriedrichAI will still be FriedrichAI. Chat, projects, files, local models, optional web access, media tools, and the rest aren't going anywhere. Worlds is being added on top of that.So if you've been watching FriedrichAI and waiting to pick i…
- Project Chronicles & Accessibility Update - 11 July 2026
This update adds Project Chronicles, giving FriedrichAI a saved local memory record for each project so you can track goals, important files, decisions, issues, tasks, and where you left off.We also added new accessibility options, including text sizing, UI scaling, high contrast, larger controls, comfortable chat spacing, and improved keyboard focus visibility.
- Small Personality Tuning Update - 9 July 2026
This update slightly adjusts FriedrichAI’s response behavior to feel less overcautious in normal conversations. The goal is not to remove important safety boundaries. FriedrichAI will still avoid genuinely harmful, illegal, or unsafe requests. This change is more about reducing unnecessary refusals and letting the assistant respond more naturally when users are asking for ordinary writing, discussion, creative work, or mature-but-legal topics.
- FriedrichAI Update: Cleaner UI + New Kanban Project Board - 5 July 2026
FriedrichAI just got a major usability pass. This update adds a cleaner app-style interface with better spacing, a more focused chat area, readable local/model/backend status indicators, and a simplified tool bar so the main window feels less like a debug panel and more like an actual workspace. The bigger addition is the new Kanban Project Board. You can now open a board view from the sidebar and organize tasks into:Todo Doing Blocked DoneThe board is meant for local project planning and task organization. You can add tasks, refresh the board, and move cards between columns without leaving the app. Also included:Cleaner sidebar navigationCollapsed tool drawer to reduce button clutterWorking saved-chat searchBetter default window sizingDebug warning cleanupContinued offline/local-first behaviorAs always, FriedrichAI still runs locally. No cloud requirement, no required API key, and no trac…
- FriedrichAI Workspace Controls: Model Switching, Saved Chats, and Kanban Next - 3 July 2026
This update continues the push toward making FriedrichAI feel less like a single chat window and more like a local AI workspace. The newest testing build adds two major framework pieces:- Local model management - Saved chat managementModel management lets FriedrichAI detect local GGUF models, switch selected models, reset back to the default bundled model, and restart cleanly after a model change. This is still local-first: users can add models inside the FriedrichAI workspace without needing cloud accounts or API keys.Saved chat management adds separate local chats. You can create chats, switch between them, reopen earlier work, and summarize the active chat. The backend now saves chat state locally and reloads useful context when a chat is opened.Current command examples:/model status /model list /model set /model reset /chat list /chat new /chat open /chat current /chat summaryThere i…

- Patch Notes: Language Stability, Optional Web Access, and Workflow Groundwork - 30 June 2026
This update focuses on making FriedrichAI more stable, predictable, and ready for the next layer of local workflow tools. The biggest change is language handling. FriedrichAI now defaults to English instead of trying to auto-detect the reply language from every message. Auto-detect sounded useful, but in real use it could cause unwanted language switching when users pasted mixed text, foreign words, or examples. Explicit language requests still work, so you can still ask FriedrichAI to reply in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, or other supported languages when needed. This patch also includes additional cleanup for repeated or echoed response text. Short answers should be less likely to repeat themselves or mirror the user’s prompt back awkwardly.Optional web access has also been added as a user-controlled feature. FriedrichAI remains offline by default. Web access is off unl…
