  • The International Update (v0.27.0) - 22 March 2019

https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F12047664%2Fda604d9d083f7ab2db38cb40c7532bea3ea0980f.png Welcome all! This update brings support for non-English languages, namely French, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Simplified Chinese. This will help us to welcome more players into our community, increasing the pool of players to play against online. Other changes in this version include clearer fonts for the game and the menus, and new features on the HUD to track how long your current shortcut is. Thirsty for more details? See the patch notes here. Enjoy!

  • The Volumetric Lighting Update is live! (v0.26.0) - 26 January 2019

https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F12047664%2Fbb3b464d9a341c9be5b888ed8c95e55b5ae72323.png More light This update brings a big upgrade to the lighting model used in SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD. The introduction of a volumetric lighting system brings more depth and nuance to the scene, setting the mood for each of the game’s locations. The underlying game engine, Unity, has been upgraded from v5.6.4 to 2018.2, bringing with it improved CPU and graphics performance and physics bugs fixes. Please keep an eye out for the bug where the track collision stops the vessel or sends it straight into the air - this should hopefully be fixed. The other major change for this update is a redesign of the loading screen. The tips shown on the loading screen now cycle through 40+ messages designed to help you become a better player. If you have any tips you would like to see prese…

  • The Career Mode Preview update is here! (v0.25.0) - 11 January 2019

https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F12047664%2Fe33648ccf38c3c914521656c42f23b97464bc7af.png Happy New Year all! I'm happy to announce that this update includes a preview of the much anticipated Career mode, the single-player mode that will act as both tutorial and a series of challenges for players. Upon entering Career mode, you will see a map. Each icon represents a challenge, and as you complete each challenge, new challenges are unlocked. There are sometimes multiple challenges you may choose to progress, so choose another one if you get stuck. You can earn up to three stars on each challenge, but only one star is required to move past the challenge. I’m really excited to see what you think of Career Mode, and hope to integrate the feedback into the final version, so if you have comments to add, please drop by the Discord and leave a note in the #career…

  • The Boosted Update is live! (v0.24.0) - 10 November 2018

https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F12047664%2F4173a78c010760e5ca952cd33395eed4d3a6a65f.png Mind the gap. Reset the leaderboards. Changes ahoy! Three big gameplay changes in this update! Firstly, the boost system has been rewritten. As well as a higher top speed and faster acceleration, boost now happens in two stages. Stage 1 hits as soon as you boost, signified by a blue flame. Stage 2 kicks in after 1.5 seconds of boost, signified by a hotter orange flame. This stage really blows you back in your seat! If you’re good enough, you can even trigger Stage 2 straight away, by triggering your boost at the EXACT MOMENT you go through a gate, propelling you at top speed from the start. The second big change is the addition of gaps in the track. You’ll see these at the later sections of Survival and Time Gate mode, occasionally in Daily Track mode and in the new “…

  • Update 23 - Vesula Prime - 8 October 2018

https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F12047664%2F5ac0c7fac16472d99948d3c46a94d777faa15cf7.png Edge of... Somewhere? It’s time for a new location. Vesula Prime, the first wormhole to be discovered and verified, is the backdrop for the next round of high stakes brinkmanship. The Vessel Racing Federation built its most powerful gravitational shielding to date for this track, along with creating some bespoke dampening technologies for other quantum effects. Whilst some have decried the VRF’s new location as reckless and irresponsible, others hope that new technologies it required will some day lead to the first successful Schwarzchild wormhole traversal. See the latest release notes for more information on this update. Enjoy!

  • The Camera update is here! (v0.22.0) - 5 September 2018

https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F12047664%2Fa7125cdd968b1d872b61e94d585c921ed6740b15.pngEnjoy the (new) view(s)! Game cameras are a very subjective topic, and one of the most requested features is a far camera mode, pulled back from the vessel. This update delivers on that request, and also adds a new first person camera mode for masochists. Kidding! But not really! First person mode is intense... If you’re playing on keyboard, hitting C cycles through all 3 camera modes - normal, far, and first person. If you’re playing on a controller, it’s mapped to one of the centre buttons, e.g. “back” on an Xbox 360 controller. Lots more changes and bug fixes in this version, as per usual, including a permanent invite to the Discord channel on the main menu for your convenience. This is a great place to meet fellow players and set up online multiplayer matches. One…

  • The UX Update is here! (v0.21.0) - 18 July 2018

https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F12047664%2Fc3f919937006c06ebc24789608098b93bdfedc64.png All about the user experience This update concentrates on the user experience - improving the usability, accessibility, and just making the whole game feel nicer to play. Most noticeable is the new UI skin, with a sleeker, minimal future tech look. Readability has been enhanced. Some changes have been made to the flow of multiplayer, streamlining the experience by allowing you to choose between regional and worldwide games. Another key thing in this update is the new respawn effect. The camera now “rewinds” to the last checkpoint, which a.) shows new users what checkpoints actually do, b.) lets you know how far you’ve just zipped back up the track and most importantly c.) looks pretty cool. There's lots of other smaller changes and bug fixes in this one too. For the f…

  • The FX Update is here! (v0.20.0) - 27 June 2018

https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F12047664%2F4564ad00b40c650914f1849de44218c047ff4ed1.png Particles everywhere, now in ultra-wide screen As well as helping the game to look great, visual effects are an important feedback mechanism for games. This update adds a whole host of effects which will help to sell the physical interactions in the game and inform the player, moment by moment, of what’s going on. When a vessel hits the track, you’ll see sparks. When a vessel is carving through the air, it will leave contrails. When boosting, you will see an energy tail. And finally, hitting the end of a race in first place triggers a celebratory shockwave for all to see. The UI also gets new FX. There are a bunch of new screen transition effects to make the front end slicker. One last, but important addition. With this update, the game has just gained support for ult…

  • Online Multiplayer Update 2 is now live! (v0.19.0) - 8 June 2018

https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F12047664%2F362485c87de4d5eafb95b43fe205b2a0a7232397.png Online just got some sweet upgrades Now that online is up and running, it’s time to add features and improve the experience. Let’s start with scoring. We now assign points for finishing position - 12 points for a win, 1 point for 8th - and these carry over between rounds and add up. In another important change, the chances of being able to find a game increase hugely with this update. Previously, you could only join a game if the other players were still at the Race Room screen. With this update, you can join a match which is already in progress. You will be a spectator until the end of the round, and then you’ll join in on the next round. These are just two of the many changes in this update. Make sure to check the release notes as usual for more detail!

  • The Online Multiplayer Update is now live! (v0.18.0) - 28 May 2018

Thanks to everyone on the Discord server for participating. Your feedback helped to iron out some important bugs and improve the experience for all. Online will continue to be improved over the next few updates, but it is now stable enough to invite everyone in to play. To get started, update to the latest version of the game (restart your Steam client if you're not seeing the update), and select Online Race. You can choose your server location from US, Japan, Europe or Russia, or select "Best" to allow the game to choose the server with the fastest ping. Note that you need to be on the same server as someone else to be able to play against them. As always, see the release notes for more details. Enjoy! Kevin

  • Online MP Beta is LIVE NOW - 12 May 2018

https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F12047664%2Fc265bb732a33b302b329497dfa1771f84fb6bf0b.png Hi everyone, I'm super happy to announce that the online multiplayer beta went live this morning, and we've already had some intense matches between some of our best players. • Let us DISCORD - 23 April 2018

https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F12047664%2Fba4a774dc79f320fc9aa60d56ebe583e77af4580.jpg Hello all, I've been looking closely at Discord and the options they have for integrating with games and matchmaking, and I think it would be a good idea to integrate Discord with SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD. This means that you'll be able to chat to your fellow pilots and organise to meet up for games easily online, once the online features are available (very soon!). It won't replace all the standard Steam matchmaking stuff you would expect in a game like this, but it will be something extra for those who want to use it. I've created 4 channels to start with. #general, #matchmaking (not useful until I put out the first multiplayer release!), #dailytrack and #tips. I'll make sure to keep a window open and check in regularly. UPDATE - added a #streaming channel to share you…

  • Wanted: Fake Names, Apply Within - 10 April 2018

https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F12047664%2F62b6a3f42c4c1de4e5ef6cf298bcf7d5d0eb6198.jpg Hello all, As work on online multiplayer continues, I need a list of names to use for the bots that you can race against (and that replace players if they drop out), kinda like Rocket League does with online play. If you have any ideas for names you would like to see, drop them in the comments below, and if they make the cut, they will be in the game. Obviously, there are going to have to be some ground rules: Fictional names only. No real people. Don't suggest your Steam name, or any other online aliases. 4-12 characters. Alphanumeric characters only, no emoji or excessive punctuation Prefer surnames over full names, e.g. Gonzalez is good, Andre Gonzalez bad No swears or slurs. Keep it safe for all audiences. Be good... No infringement of intellectual property. For e…

  • Take a sneak peak at online multiplayer racing in SIR! - 8 March 2018

It's rough, ugly, jerky, there's no collision and a ton of bugs to deal with. But online multiplayer in SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD is __baaasiccally__ working! Here's the video. Don't look at it if you don't like looking at rough dev work :) I'm hoping to have the first version ready for all of you Early Access people before the end of March. Kevin

  • The Lighting Update (v0.16.2) is here - 17 November 2017

Hello all, Time for another point release, this time focusing on lighting, materials, and the post effects stack. Everything has been rebalanced, opening out the mid-tones to present a more realistic image rather than the crushed contrast present in recent builds. See the full release notes here. Enjoy! Kevin

  • The Controller Compatibility Update is live (v0.16.1) - 27 October 2017

Hi guys, Just a minor point release, but something that you might appreciate if you're having trouble with controller compatibility. I've upgraded the controller library that SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD uses (Rewired) to the latest version, bringing with it compatibility for lots more controllers, for example the Nintendo Switch Joycons. I've exposed the settings for Rewired in the INI file. I would advise that you should only change these settings if you're having problems, but if you are then they may be just the help you need. This rolls up all the changes from the Beta branch, and as such I've disabled it for now to make sure we're all on the main release branch again. Full release notes here. Enjoy your weekend, Kevin

  • Beta 2 now available with configurable input options - 24 October 2017

UPDATE - I've rolled all these changes into the main release, 0.16.1. I've closed the Beta branch until the next time we need it. Thank you for your feedback! Hello all, Time for the second beta branch release, focused again on controller compatibility. These changes are only in the optional Beta branch of the game. More details on how to opt in here. In this release, you can configure the input system using the game's INI file. This is handy if you just can't get your controllers to work with the game. I've pinned a discussion topic on the INI file here, which details everything you can change. here. Note that messing around with the INI file is for advanced users only. For everyone else, you should find the settings you need in the in-game options. Enjoy, and let me know if this works well for you all, Kevin

  • New beta branch with controller changes now available - 17 October 2017

Hi all, I've just opened up a beta branch for you all. From time to time, I'll need to test some experimental things out with a few of you before deploying to everyone, and that's what this branch is for. This time, we're testing out fresh controller compatibility code to sort out a couple of problems some of you have been having. To switch to the beta branch, do the following: 1.) Right-click SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD in your Steam client 2.) Click Properties 3.) Click the Beta tab 4.) In the password field, type "duskotherbase" (without the quotes) 5.) Select the branch "beta" from the dropdown 6.) Run the game. You may have to wait for the download first. If you do this, you should see the version number showing as 0.16.1 BETA 1 on the title screen (not on the "What's New" screen). Let me know your experiences with the beta, and we can tweak some settings and go from there. Once we're ha…
