- Bug Fixes & Improvements 0.3.7.4 - 6 September 2024
Hello everybody, I know it's been a long time since the last update. This patch is bringing some long overdue bug fixes while I continue to polish a substantial overhaul of the rendering systems to finish up multi-layered map support; work that has been moving slowly forward this summer, though development had been suspended for nearly two years as life has restricted the time and energy I have to devote to development side-projects. Fixed glitchy behaviors of Steam Overlay/Toasts on monitors faster than 60hz Improved the handling of Draw/Move previews in a game where one or more players is present with high ping Fixed a crash when scrolling the mousewheel over non-dice text/empty-space in a dice roll text box Fixed a crash and improved steam API reconnect functionality. Fixed excessive memory use in excessively large dicerolls Fixed some issues in campaign creation with invalid file-pa…
- 0.3.7.1 Added "Report a Problem" feature, Minor Fixes and Improvements - 24 September 2022
As always, if you'd like to follow along with development you can join us on Discord! This patch has been worked on in parallel with the Multi-Layer feature, which is taking longer than I hoped to get developed due to a lot of life changes (all of them are good) that have all hit in the last month for me. The main feature is the new "Report a Problem" button in the top right of player and DM clients. This makes it much easier to let me know if there's a problem without joining discord or hunting me down on Steam. So if there's a bug that's stuck in your craw, let me know! Here's the full patch notes: Added the "Report a Problem" button and menu, reports are anonymously (unless you provide contact info) submitted via webhook to discord, no account required though. Modified double-click on a token so that it toggles "Active" and "Visible" together, except during a play session where "Acti…
- 0.3.7.0 Added Multi-Floor Support for maps - 24 June 2022
To follow along with the development, report a problem, or just say 'hi', Join us in Discord! This update, adds a Floor/Layer Management system so that each map can have multiple layers, rather than a separate map for every floor. While this update is relatively low impact, it lays the groundwork for the "Multi-Layer" rendering features which will be the next feature on the task list. Map Layer Features: Added an "Add/Edit Floors" button to open the floor manager screen. Floor manager allows you to add layers above and below the primary map, and reorganize or delete them. Moving floors up and down automatically renames them if you leave the automatic floor name as part of the final name. Added a floor selector panel to the bottom right of the map display area. Mousing over a floor name pops up a preview of the floor. Added a "Use Main Map's Grid" checkbox on each floor in map-editor, let…
- 0.3.6.3 Added "Launch Player Window" button and fixed minor/rare issue fixes - 2 June 2022
Added a "Launch Player Window" button next to the DM's ready checkbox - this will join the game you are in with the player client. Potentially fixed a rare rendering issue where some clients are unable to render the map, tokens, etc, and just show an empty background, and only drawing map on window-resize. Fixed a crash when switching campaigns
- 0.3.6.1 Small Fixes - Map Delete Crash And Big Token Move improvements - 7 May 2022
Fixed a crash when deleting maps after opening the campaign switch menu. Fixed a bug with large-sized tokens where the token was in the wrong spot if you didn't grab it by the top-left corner. Fixed a bug where token de-select was higher priority than token-move-cancel, which caused some odd behaviors when cancelling group moves.
- v0.3.6.0 - Steam-Cloud based map sending & misc usability improvements - 26 April 2022
As always, if you'd like to follow along with the development, or get some help getting started, then join us on discord! https://discord.gg/2kaQdX5zAb This update brings big changes to how maps are shared, which will be a huge improvement to Game Masters with poor internet connections and provide more robust behavior overall. I've reworked the map distribution system to work over Steam Cloud, so that the images that are stored when you create them are shared to your players from the cloud instead of the Peer-to-Peer connection (unless something goes wrong, or you're on a LAN). If you've got a session coming up and want to take full advantage of this feature, you simply need to load the associated campaign to get Steam to register all the cloud images, then you can close Dudes on a Map, and they'll finish uploading and be ready for Game Day (if you don't do any of this, they'll simply g…
- 0.3.5.3 - Fixed a map init bug that would result in 0-sized tokens. - 16 April 2022
This update addresses a problem when a map is created and defaults to having a grid, the token size wasn't properly initialized, and would result in invisible tokens when switching to non-grid map styles.
- 0.3.5.2 - Small tweaks to token labels and file saving - 11 April 2022
Increased the length of names displayed on tokens in a number of situations, and sets a minimum length of name that longer names can be reduced to. Selected tokens now display their full name. Fixed a rare case where the needed directory structure was not created for token saves.
- Discord Integration and Laser Pointers - 3 March 2022
As always, if you'd like to follow along with the development, or get some help getting started, then join us on discord! https://discord.gg/2kaQdX5zAb This update adds the ability to send information from Dudes to your discord server. To connect the two, simply create a discord webhook in the "Edit Channel"=>Integrations menu, and copy the link to the 'Dudes on a Map' Campaign Settings tab. From there, you can decide which activities you'd like to mirror into discord, initiative, dice and even map updates can be sent. The new laser pointer can be activated in the drawing tools menu or by simply holding the Alt key. Full patch notes: Added discord webhook sending for Dice rolls, which mirrors each player die-roll to the discord chat. Text to speech option allows reading of the roll summary. Added discord webhook sending for Initiative order, this will show all player-visible initiative…
- 0.3.4.3 Minor drawing fixes and improvements - 21 February 2022
This patch just fixes a few issues that mostly affect the GM regarding drawing and Steam integration. As always, if you'd like to follow along with the development then join us on discord! https://discord.gg/2kaQdX5zAb Zooming in and out no longer cancels active drawing/token-move operations. Fixed Right-Clicking on map causing the map to quit updating until a left click or escape-key occurred. This was due to the recently added context menus for token links, these would intercept all events even when the menu didn't get opened on a right click. Fixed Steam lockups/crashes for GM clients with lots of workshop subscriptions. Reduced CPU/GPU utilization when no steam overlay is open by limiting fast-full-screen-refreshes to only while overlay is open or fading in/out.
- 0.3.4.0 Saved Dice-Rolls system. - 4 February 2022
Here are the details for release 0.3.4.0. I'm pretty excited for the new features on offer here, it should really streamline play for those who like to use digital dice, without spoiling the low-friction setup for tokens. I've also made some improvements to the Players' Game Lobby to accommodate the added information on Player Tokens, and fixed a number of bugs, including a Steam error that was causing high-CPU usage in steam itself during games. As always, if you'd like to follow along with the development then join us on discord! https://discord.gg/2kaQdX5zAb The new saved roll system works as follows: Added a small character selection panel above the standard dice tray, which hides if there's only one choice, and automatically switches selection when initiative changes. Added a button panel showing all of the selected characters rolls below the dice tray. Clicking a button once copie…
- 0.3.3.1 Hotfix for "Delete token" bug and improvements to Fullscreen-Mode - 10 January 2022
0.3.3.1 is now released * Fixed a bug where you'd be asked if you really wanted to delete your token after every keystroke within the token editor. * Added overlay style controls to Fullscreen mode that lets you roll dice, place tokens, do initiative, and draw while still fullscreen. * Fixed a rare crash with the new right click menu not initializing correctly * Tried to add a message if you run out of system memory, might not appear.
- Token Quick-Links and Bug Fixes in v0.3.3.0 - 22 December 2021
Dudes on a Map lets you take your Pen & Paper game online with minimal effort. You can join our little community here on Discord Version 0.3.3.0 has the following changes: * Added links to tokens, accessible by right clicking them on the map. Players can add a private (by default) character sheet and a public art link, DM tokens can have the same, as well as additional custom links. * Fixed most issues with Steam Overlay in Fullscreen mode on player window. Removed some faulty attempts at making this work which caused excessive CPU/GPU usage. The issue was simply a bad interaction with borderless WPF windows, and simply restoring the border while the overlay is active gives good results. * Added a Delete hotkey for removing tokens from the token editor screen * Fixed an issue where the server may prevent the DM from reconnecting (not recognizing the old session as disconnected, and not…
- Version 0.3.2.4 Bug Fixes - 28 October 2021
Version 0.3.2.4 has just been released with a handful of small fixes: Optimized the roll history panel, it now opens instantly and starts with the scrollbar at the bottom (most recent roll). Added logic to avoid putting new installs settings on one-drive, and any existing DM datas are given an option to migrate the settings (and again each time a save-fault occurs), while player data is moved unconditionally. Fixed a few steam-integration crashes, and added logic to initialize steam if it becomes available after you've started. (Hopefully) Fixed a server bug where certain disconnect faults could result in excessive updates to the party and potentially overload the server. Fixed a rare font crash Since the last few updates have been without notes, here's the previous patch notes: Previous Version 0.3.2.3: Fixed a number of edge cases when reconnecting players to an existing game, which w…

All of this allows you to make a qua…
- 0.3.1.0 Multi-Select support and QoL features - 28 September 2021
Added Multiselect features, with the following functions Ctrl+Left-click a token to add or remove it from a group. Ctrl+Left-click and drag a rectangle to add most things to a group. Some tokens (like player tokens for the GM, or locked tokens) can't be added this way, but can be added when explicitly clicking the token. Ctrl + 1-9 will save a selected token or group for later. Pressing 1-9 will recall the selection group, similar to a Real-Time Strategy game. The group selection UI also has buttons to save groups with. Dragging an item in the active selection group will move all items. Maintaining their relative positions. The group selection UI allows you to add damage to all selected, remove tokens with damage over a threshold, and edit all tokens in a group. Selection groups, and group saving is available to players as well as the GM. So players can move the party as a group. In add…
- 0.3.0.0 Whiteboard maps, Map Creator Overhaul, Bulk Token & Map creation - 30 August 2021
Beautifully drawn maps are great and all, but sometimes you just need to put up a room with some obstacles and bad guys, and that's where the whiteboard map shines. No need to provide a map image or setup anything complex, just doodle some lines and roll for initiative with these lightweight options. In addition, new bulk add options for tokens and maps make it easier to bring your game to life with new content, with the ability to configure grids and saved preferences for bulk and individual grids, you can bring your maps online quicker than ever. Lastly, there's a new, more flexible game lobby. Players can add and drop tokens on the fly, update their image, name, and color during play. The game master can also assign images to players, and if the player doesn't already have an image, it will be saved for them for next time. Here's a full list of the changes: Added whiteboards to the m…
- 0.2.2.2 Miscelaneous Quality of Life and Networking Fixes - 17 August 2021
Fixes in this version are small and pretty sporadic so here's the list: Auto-detect map luminance and select white/black gridlines at map image change. Added feature to shuffle-style initiative to shuffle after a configurable number of rounds Added a notes field to tokens and token defs so you can write down anything you want about tokens Added a forced color option to token drawer tokens, so you can predefine colors of tokens instead to override the drawer color selector. Changed hit detection to use the actual image size and text size, instead of the full token size + text height. This should limit 'invisible' hitbox area if you keep token images well cropped. Fixed custom roll strings in campaign settings not populating for players the first time they roll initiative with a custom roll type. Locked tokens are now removed from initiative Added a prompt to save before switching campaig…
- Patch 0.2.2.0 - Awesome Gaming Table features, Quality of Life & Bug Squashing - 9 June 2021
To follow along with the development, report a problem, or just say 'hi', Join us in Discord! This patch has a lot of cool stuff in it for everyone, but if you're on a gaming table it's especially noteworthy. A lot of these changes came by request from users, and it's a lot of good stuff! Fixed the steam overlay, it now works just like you'd expect in a game. Added a fullscreen option to the player client, in the top right near the local settings button. This will hide the UI and the map will use the entire screen. Added Physical sizing options for the player client, in the Local Settings tab, where you can enter your screen size and resolution and how many inches or millimeters you want each grid-square to be, the map will zoom to give you squares of that size (with options to zoom in and out a little bit 2x, 1/2x, and 1/4x). Added a lights out button for the game master, which blanks…
